do I get brown or black flat knee-high boots?

Have decided at last that I have no choice but to invest in a pair of Duo boots (most shop-bought boots hang off the calf - I've got quite skinny legs), so am having to go down the expensive route of buying the Duo calf-fit ones.

I quite like these ones:

www.duoboots.com/products/boots/detail/calf_fitted_boots_timeless/ravenna/32/colour/2/

but not sure whether to go for the black or brown. I've already got some black heeled boots so thought maybe brown for the flat ones? But would brown go with everything?

Now I look at those, actually they look a bit boring and plain.....are they? Really I'd like more of a biker boot but can only afford one pair that I basically have to be able to wear with EVERYTHING so was thinking plainish ones might be best.....

God......I hate doing this.......really trying to make an effort to buy some new clothes and shoes etc as I have hardly bought anything in the past 5 years but it really is time to now. Just don't know what's in fashion or what my style is anymore, and don't want to waste money buying the wrong thing......

Sorry they are a bit boring. I've already posted these on another thread. They're really comfy and a bit biker bootish, I've fat calfs (calves??) and they are a bit tight.

NellieTheEllie · 07/02/2009 22:42

I have been hunting for boots and have the same problem with skinny calves.
My last pair were by Fly and a great fit and very similar to the ones cocolepew has posted about. Fly boots are fab

these are similar. would look cool with skinny jeans or a skirt.

CurlyhairedAssassin · 07/02/2009 22:59

I like the ones you linked to Cocolpew, perhaps I'll have a look at some more Fly ones. Thanks.

cocole I had that exact pair in a suedy fabric - loved them.

CurlyhairedAssassin · 07/02/2009 23:17

Found these from that same website - they are exactly what I was thinking of in my mind. What do you think? Haven't got my bloody size though - typical. Will they get more in do you think?

They're both more expensive Nellie! I wasn't going to share this but ... Amazon have cheap fly shoes/boots on at the moment - not those ones though! I bought a gorgeous pair yesterday for £25. In fact I should share and then they will all sell out and I'll stop spending!

CurlyhairedAssassin · 07/02/2009 23:26

Oh you are all fab - had forgotten about Schuh - we have one here in Liverpool but I haven't been in there for years. Hopefully they'll have a pair in there I can go and try them on - see if they look ok on my stick legs!

Thanks, thanks, thanks!!

I have them in brown and TBH wish I'd got black.

However, I am not wearing them much- I think they look a bit frumpy.

I have 3 pairs of DUO- including Kirov- great- and Perugia??- not sure- flat with straps round ankle.

TBH I have no choice but to buy DUO_ calves around 33 cms- but I wish they would do chunkier soles...I have even seen some Clarks boots I like better.

If anyone can suggest anything else, do!

Linwin · 08/02/2009 10:19

I have same problem with skinny calves, just got these:

I know, I know they are v expensive but i got 10% off in the store and they will last for ages.

CurlyhairedAssassin · 08/02/2009 10:56

Linwin, they are WAY out of my price range!

veryembarrassedmummy, which boots do you wish you'd got black in? Do you mean the Fly ones?

OP posts:
CurlyhairedAssassin · 08/02/2009 11:02

Oh, and I seem to so easily fall into the frumpy look totally without meaning to. I think that's why I haven't really bought any new clothes or shoes for 5 years, haven't had any spare cash to waste on bad purchases which would just linger at the bottom of the wardrobe unworn!

And because I haven't bought anything I've got out of the habit of knowing what's in fashion and also what I can wear at the age of 35, without looking too mutton.

Curly, I have the boots Cocolepew linked to. I wear them with everything as they are so comfy.

They look great with skirts and trousers. I just make sure that I don't wear black on my bottom half. I love them.

cocolepew · 08/02/2009 11:18

Curly I'm 40 and I have no intention of giving up biker boots . I dress casually for work and usualy wear my boots with boyfriend jeans, but they look good with any type. You an get a short style which are half way up the calf or knee highs.

veryembarrassedmummy · 08/02/2009 16:28

CHA- I meant DUO's Ravenna. Got brown but would now have bought black.

The Hobbs boots are nice but they are still too wide for me.

hoxtonchick · 08/02/2009 16:55

i have the mol boots, & i have skinny calves. they're adjustable which is a bonus. i have black & brown....

CurlyhairedAssassin · 08/02/2009 21:07

Thanks, hoxtonchick, I will head down to Schuh this week and see if I can try some on. They are lurrrvely......really hope they fit.

OP posts:
CurlyhairedAssassin · 08/02/2009 21:46

This might complicate matters - just out of interest I have just measured both my calves. One is 34cm and one is a withered 32cm!!! WTF?!?! I'm a freak!

hoxtonchick, are your legs (leg?!) that skinny?

OP posts:
hoxtonchick · 09/02/2009 08:00

mine are 34 cm & 35. you are super skinny! however, i'm a size 16, so mine look thin compared to the rest of me. i have much skinnier ankles than calves too. and curly hair. do i sound like a freak yet?!

MamacitaGordita · 09/02/2009 10:10

Curlyhaired I like the first boots you linked to- in brown. TBH I think a riding-style boot will go with so much more and stand the test of time far better than biker styles. It can be smartened up or casual with jeans. I'm not normally an advocate of more the more conservative option but I bought a pair of riding-style boots from Russell & Bromley (a whole week's wage!!) about 6 years ago and they are still going strong and never look dated.

God that post makes me sound so yawn! I'd like to funk up my style credentials by hastily adding I have just bought a biker-esque jacket!! lol

CurlyhairedAssassin · 09/02/2009 14:42

hoxtonchick, if we're going to go for a who's the freakiest competition, I think I win hands down. I'm a size 12 but my belly sticks out more than my boobs do, and as for MY curly hair, it's way out of control, and I don't just mean on my head.

Wonder if those boots would still look ok on me, then. Can't wait to try them on.

Mamacita, that's the problem, isn't it? I would LOVE to look funky, but then funky stuff could look a bit inappropriate in certain more formal situations, and I can't afford 2 pairs of flat boots. Tis a dilemma.

How about these? A bit of a compromise between the two maybe?

www.duoboots.com/products/boots/detail/calf_fitted_boots_timeless/avignon/4/colour/2/

More expensive though......
