'Ugg' boots

Ok so I know I'm at risk of being branded a chav but I'd like some Ugg advice please.

I'm planning on getting a pair of ugg boots from here. And yes I know they are not genuine Ugg Australia boots but they are still uggs if that makes sense. They are proper sheepskin.

Anyway, the point is- I don't know whether to go for long or short ones. I've got a pair of cheap £10 ones now and they are in between the length of the sizes quoted on the website.

I'm 5ft 7, will the short ones look silly on me? Do the long ones still work fine under jeans or do they go funny at the knees?

Personally I'd go for a longer length pair. I always think the short ones look like old granny slippers.

Your jeans shouldn't go funny at the knees if the boots aren't too tight. I find tucking my jeans into socks stops them riding up and bunching.

DebiTheScot · 04/02/2009 19:38

mmm good point about the Granny slippers, think I will go for the long ones

Ooh i prefer their cardy ones, they have fluffitiness that the other ones don't

quint · 04/02/2009 19:48

Can I just ask why they're not authentic Uggs? Or am I being a bit stupid here!!!

Jewelsandgems · 04/02/2009 20:00

For under jeans the long ones do give a funny look at the knee IMO. Unless the jeans are really loose (and then that does not conjur up an attractive look at all)

DebiTheScot · 04/02/2009 20:02

oh I meant over jeans. Doh. I do have a pair of those boyfriend fit jeans that I occasionally wear with the boots under them if i can't be bothered to go and find other shoes and they don't look too bad but you're right they do look better over jeans.

Long ones every time

DebiTheScot · 04/02/2009 20:05

the word ugg is just a name for that type of boots and I think anything made from sheepskin and wool can be legitimately called uggs (don't know about the cheap non wool ones). But what is known as 'proper Uggs are the ones made by Ugg Australia and cost about £170 for the long ones. The ones I want are supposedly the same quality as 'proper' Uggs but cheaper.

Dockers tried to copyright the name 'Ugg' a few years ago. All the little independent ugg boot factories went to court and won. It was kind of like copyrighting the word 'jeans'. So Dockers now use Ugg Australia. All boots are ugg boots irrigardless of the brand. They are also slippers. But if you must then go for long ones.

Anyone bought boots from this website and know if they are real Ugg Australia ones or fake?

I prefer the 'Emu' brand which is made in Sydney, Australia. I ordered a pair as a treat for myself a Xmas and I love them. They are 100% sheepskin and the real mccoy as far as Ugg style boots go!!

Molesworth · 05/02/2009 21:58

Those Emus look like a bargain

salvadory · 05/02/2009 23:19

Short ones! I have both but find I'm always wearing the short ones, nicer with jeans tucked in or over, so warm and comfy and such a blessed relief after being in heels all day. However I am a shorty so find the tall ones almost knee length, not the best look for me. I ordered from the Ugg Australia website and got them shipped here using bordelinx website, worked out cheaper than UK- just!

DebiTheScot · 06/02/2009 09:25

hubbyplayingonwiiagain which ones do you have? The Bronte ones or the Stinger ones? Do you know what the difference is?

That other website are fake ones, they told me when I emailed them

DebiTheScot · 06/02/2009 09:27

and did you have to pay import tax?

I've ordered Emus from amazon. Hope they are good, I've spent hours on researching these blooming boots!

Longer length much more stylish, I think

Uggs aren't chavvish. They are bloody fabulous in this cold, shitty winter weather.

macherie · 06/02/2009 15:52

I have a pair of Uggs, and while I can't fault them for comfort, I hate the look of them.

So I got these as an alternative, and I LOVE them. IMO they look so much better and are even toastier. I am wearing them now and am so cosy

KatieScarlett2833 · 06/02/2009 15:54

I got my short black Uggs from ASOS. They are known i our house as F-UGGS (as in FUGLY). I love them and I don't care if they are "chavvish", they are warm and extremely comfortable.

NellieTheEllie · 06/02/2009 15:57

Anyone ordered from www.kiwi-sheepskins.com ?
it has been recommended on the MoneySavingExpert website for price and delivery etc, but would like to hear what the boots were like.

HubbyplayingonWiiAgain · 06/02/2009 19:24

DebiTheScot - I bought the Bronte Low pair and it cost me £44 in total (delivery is included in the price). I couldnt really tell the difference when I wore mine and compared the Stingers in a John Lewis except the price diff!! On the website its says the stingers have 'Micron 20 merino wool and dyed skeenskin inners'

HubbyplayingonWiiAgain · 06/02/2009 19:29

DebitheScot - no import tax!! John Lewis sell Emu Boots but I think they only stock the Stinger line. I had a look there before I orderd online. Also I just had a look at the original Emu Box, Made in Melbourne Australia, not Sydney.

DebiTheScot · 06/02/2009 20:05

I went for the stingers. The outer is different material I think and it suggested they were t waterproof and should last longer. They were £75 inc delivery and would have been nearly £90 from that other site.
