Wedding Outfit with a difference (for those who enjoy a style challenge)

BarbaraWoodlouse · 03/02/2009 22:30

I have a slight twist on the usual request for a wedding outfit.

I am the bride. Nobody knows (except soon-to-be DH). Parents currently think they are coming for afternoon tea at a hotel - which they are, but only after a short trip to the register office.

Something like this may therefore lead to some awkard questions beforehand. However I'd also like to avoid jeans and a t-shirt.

At the moment the likely candiate is this but I'm struggling to find shoes, cardigan (well it will be May) etc.

Similar style "day" dress suggestions would be great.

Oh, I'm medium height, 12-14 (14 in dresses due mainly to large norks). Rubbish in high heels but happy with a "comfy" heeled shoe of the Clarks-type variety.

Can anyone help?

There is being late and then there is leaving him waiting for two months.............

brimfull · 03/02/2009 22:34

You could freeze yer tits of in march with that on.It's lovely though.

Right will look for card

BarbaraWoodlouse · 03/02/2009 22:37

TBH Ivykaty, if we weren't travelling together he'd probably not make it until April

PMSL at "freeze yer tits off". At least I'd have my something blue I was thinking of opaque tights and aforementioned cardie...

cardi/blazer

teafortwo · 03/02/2009 22:39

Congratulations!

I also got married in a 'day dress' as we got married with a few friends in London and then spent the rest of the day hanging around having fun! It was the best wedding I have ever been to. But I suppose everyone says that about their own wedding!

I think your wedding is going to be fab!

I like the dress you have linked to - but you are right it looks a bit brrrrrr for May March!

Ivykaty44 · 03/02/2009 22:42

handbag and shoes

brimfull · 03/02/2009 22:44

ivykate-those are lovely

BarbaraWoodlouse · 03/02/2009 22:52

Thanks for all the replies. I'm loving being able to "tell" people finally!

I'm not sure the cardi/blazer would work on me as lapels like that never seem to sit right for me. But thanks.

Lurve the "Tamara" shoes on ivykate's link, and heels that I can potentially walk in - unusual for Dune!

brimfull · 03/02/2009 22:55

zebraa that you are 26 and shop inper una!!!

stop !

brimfull · 03/02/2009 22:55

wrong thread sorry

Ewe · 03/02/2009 22:57

I think you should go white cardi and shoes like this in navy or white, depending on your preference. Congrats by the way!

I also like this and this if you're looking for some other options, they do lovely dresses and all seem to be in the sale - result!

teafortwo · 03/02/2009 23:33

Would you consider trousers?

Every dress I see either looks too sensible or too brrrrrr!

What about a really feminine cut trouser outfit?

samsonara · 03/02/2009 23:38

the stuff that Ivykaty44 has linked will be fab with the blue dress. Assuming you will wear a coat over the dress and cardi, you should be warm enough when you are outdoors.

brimfull · 03/02/2009 23:39

now about a dressy coat?

llareggub · 03/02/2009 23:41

I'm thinking a little red cardigan, with red accessories.

llareggub · 03/02/2009 23:43

like this

samsonara · 03/02/2009 23:51

That would add a nice splash of colour and look pretty with the blue. I suppose it depends on what you want your wedding pictures to look like, ie blended in colours or something bright and if you are going to have flowers and what colours, see with that cardigan some red flowers would look lovely.

could be a bit warmer?

This one hints at being the bride without having to look like a bride! I am quite into these big floppy dresses right now!

And if you can do yellow I thought this has a claarsy but fun feel...

OhBling · 05/02/2009 11:07

SoupDragon · 05/02/2009 11:26

Could you get away with something like PopMum's top and these trousers which you could hide under an ordinary coat to be shed in the warmth of the registry office?
