I have bought "this www.johnlewis.com/22100/Product.aspx"
And "this www.johnlewis.com/22080/Product.aspx
She doesn't like the dress but wants to keep the cardigan, but I don't like any of the other clothes in the range from JL.
Has anyone seen anything funky but pretty in Purple please or an outfit (I am rubbish at putting things together).
Thank you

We had a Venture photoshoot a few years ago and i'd agree with everybody suggesting comfy, casual clohtes. The dc's spent all of their time running, jumping and rollong on the floor! They had a great time.

Go for bold colours which look fab against the white background. Have they said to bring some props? We took wheelybugs (obviously a bit young for your dd) but it did help to make it look more natural.

listenglisten · 24/01/2009 22:05

Whoops sorry about the typos.

sorrento · 24/01/2009 22:11

You have nothing to worry about I can assure you, can we stick to the outfit please as that is all I am seeking advice on.

So, what sort of thing does she usually wear sorrento?

DragonLowFatSpread · 24/01/2009 22:12

ok, so what does she like to wear?

stardazzle · 24/01/2009 22:13

sorrento - did you see the one i linked to above? nice purple dress

sorrento · 24/01/2009 22:13

I guess she normally wears jogger type bottoms or strictly come dancing type ball gowns given a choice, nothing really in between, smart casual is a bit lacking in our house for all of us, we're either dead scruffy or off to the theatre/dinner type outfits.

I did star, am just worried it won't arrive in time but I think I'll order it just in case, I think she will like that.

yeah! in my experince vertbaudet are quite quick at delivering if its in stock - look around for a code though always one of those kicking around.

stardazzle · 24/01/2009 22:20

why not take along a ball gown dress. The photographers play with what you take so a photo of her dancing would work brilliantly, esp if that 'her'.

We've just had a venture style shoot and have a fab photo of dd2 playing with bubbles link here

sorrento · 24/01/2009 22:28

The outfit your dd has on is exactly the kind of thing I wanted.
They all just have very definate colours they like so everyone knows L loves yellow, T loves purple and F loves pink so I just thought it would be nice as they are having the pictures done individually one at a time if she could be wearing "her" colours if that makes sense, I'm obviously putting far too much thought into this.

She wore this for her birthday party which would be perfect but it's a bit small/short

no your not, these pictures cost a lot and they need to be what you want. We used the same clothes in our actual venture photo with my mum who wanted everyone in demin. The outfit dd2 is wearing in that shot linked to above is from next, i really struggled with dd1 who was 5 at the time she is a very girly girl who loves all things pink and dislikes jeans but i found her a ncie demin dress which is like a party dress only made of denim and worked perfectly for her.

M and s had some nice outfits today will see if i can find one to link too

stardazzle · 24/01/2009 22:38

this looked lovely although it is jeans

a purple top under this would work

sorrento - are you really totally unconcerned that your six year old thinks she's fat? Do you really not worry that your concern about her "tummy" and restricting what she can wear because of it might have a long lasting negative impact on her body image?

Taking her to be photographed (presumably quite regularly, from what you have said) must make her more aware of her physicality than most six year olds, combined with the above I really do find it a worrying situation.

sorrento · 25/01/2009 10:50

Do you know what NN this is exactly what puts people off mumsnet, you ask a question about a bloody dress and come off feeling like you should phone social services and ask them to come and collect them immediately.
She has been professionally photographed once in the last 12 months and that was with her sisters and father and I.
Yes she's got a tummy, as somebody else said they all have at that age, it's not wrong to dress them in clothes that suit them and are comfortable.

OP posts:
sorrento · 25/01/2009 10:50

And if you want to worry you feel free I have better things to do with my time.

OP posts:
NorktasticNinja · 25/01/2009 11:46

Oh, I wasn't worried about the question, or that your DD is photographed sometimes. Just about her being worried about being fat and your repeated references to her tummy and what she could and couldn't wear because of it.

As you say, all six year olds have a tummy. clothes for that age group are designed to take account of it...

sorrento · 25/01/2009 11:52

And there's my point, it's none of your concern thank you very much.

OP posts:
littlelamb · 25/01/2009 11:54

Surely this is a windup. I read it last night but I kept my mouth shut. But how sad that you seem to be reinforcing her ideas that she is fat. 'She's got a tummy' ffs

Yunyun · 25/01/2009 11:56

Shall we just stick to the dress please...

Here from Boden

sorrento · 25/01/2009 12:18

LL seems to want this to kick off, sorry am take my ball home and not playing.

DragonLowFatSpread · 25/01/2009 12:27

so sorry this thread is going the way it's going sorrento.
you are absolutely right about...
'you ask a question about a bloody dress and come off feeling like you should phone social services and ask them to come and collect them immediately'
couldn't have put it better myself.

it's becoming infuriatingly unsupportive these days. ignore, and give them no more ammunition.

btw, ds2 woke up this morning covered in chicken pox, and there was me worrying about what he should wear. looks like i've got a little bit more time to think about it, especially as ds1 is going to get it too.
