What does your 11 year old dd wear and where from?

I know there have been threads like this before but I'm hoping for current links. DD2 is 11, quite tall, very skinny and really not interested in clothes at all. However she now only has about three outfits that actually fit her.

These are:

  • skinny jeans with a long stripey jumper

boot cut jeans with a long-sleeved T shirt and a knitted shrug

  • flared jeans with a zip up emo-type fleecy thing
  • Any ideas / links / shop advice greatly appreciated please.

She hates Next and Boden and will sometimes contemplate the odd item in Gap or Zara but other than that I can't think of anywhere.

Tia.

Thank you both. I'm sorry Mosschops- she hated Tammy and New Look too last time we looked: it was all too "fashiony" I guess and she's really not interested. I suppose she's a bit of a Tomboy. Black combats might be worth a look.

I just wish I could find a couple of skirts that she'd be willing to wear, for when jeans aren't appropriate.

I have a tall skinny 11-year old as well. She wears stuff from New Look (a lot of it tat), H&M, Gap and bits picked up at TK Maxx. If she were shopping on her own she would buy from Primark, I'm sure. She's moved on from Next and M&S now Wouldn't be seen dead in Boden type stuff

Tinker · 18/01/2009 19:57

Mine never ever wears skirts

Icanseethesea · 18/01/2009 19:57

My 11 year old DD is the same, tal, skinny and has the same three outfits as yours! She does wear a short skirt with leggings occasionally though.
I don't mind really, she is comfortable and happy, I think she would dress up if I asked her to,(ie for a wedding), and at least she isn't trying to pass herself off as a much older teenager.
She likes New Look as well, but only for jeans and hoodies!

Northernlurker · 18/01/2009 19:57

Dd1 mostly wears things from Gap but also likes some things from Next and Monsoon. She loves smocks!

Northernlurker · 18/01/2009 19:58

And she has about two skirts, both denim which are worn over leggings

janeite · 18/01/2009 19:59

What about going to something like the theatre?

NutterlyUts · 18/01/2009 20:01

Would she wear stuff like this?

janeite · 18/01/2009 20:03

I love Emily Strange! She has one T-shirt which she does sometimes wear but she doesn't like looking "too Emo" as she calls it, either. She looks lovely in deep reds or navy blues. Her skin is very pale and she has blue eyes, so she doesn't look too hot in black.

NutterlyUts · 18/01/2009 20:07

What about this stuff?

DD's Emily The Strange t-shirt was from Blue Banana, which is a UK alternative type shop. I think as T-shirts go, they are very expensive though. DD's was a present.

My DD ranges from tomboy to glam pre-teen and we struggle too. Current favourites are Pineapple and Red Herring at Debenhams; occasionally things from H&M, TKMaxx, MK one, Newlook and BHS. Rarely Next and M&S. Would suggest a good mooch around a large Debenhams?

janeite · 18/01/2009 21:49

Thanks for the further suggestions. I dragged her around the Debenhams in the Bullring a couple of weeks ago and she insisted that she didn't like anything. I liked the Ted Baker children's clothes in there but dd refused to be persuaded.

what a nightmare for you!!! Have you looked at Tesco and Asda? I am lucky, neither of mine are particularly label conscious, they like what they like regardless of the store. Both have had things from the supermarkets (even if they only like one or two things per season) What about Donnay shops/decathlon and similar if she likes the sporty look? Matalan and TKMaxx also quite varied. Being tall, she might get away with some top shop stuff in smaller sizes? If you can get her to describe her style in more detail, perhaps we can be of more help?

Cammelia · 19/01/2009 08:55

Janeite my tall skinny just-turned 12 years old today dd has started wearing Jack Wills as they fit so her shape so well.
I will only buy (online) in the sales though as the prices are totally bonkers otherwise.

janeite · 19/01/2009 17:09

Oh my god - I can't afford Jack Wills!

She's not at all into the sporty look either tbh. I don't shop in Tesco if at all possible and we don't have an Asda. Topshop stuff is still way too big: she has a teeny tiny waist and no hips or boobs yet.

Basically her "style" is jeans and a comfortable jumper - that's it; jeans and a T-shirt in summer. She'd spend 24 hours a day, every day of the year, in her PJs and dressing gown if she could.

Mostly I don't mind her wearing jeans and a jumper/T shirt and Gap/Zara generally do us for these - but I don't like her wearing jeans to go "out" to restaurants, theatre etc and just need something that she can throw on and be comfortable in but that looks a bit smarter.

How about a skirt like this? With a t shirt perhaps?

The sizes/colours aren't all in yet for the new season, but Petit Bateau is quite inoffensive for pre-teens.

janeite · 19/01/2009 17:21

Ooh I've never come across them before. The skirt is lovely - but I've just dragged dd in to look and she says it's "too mini" - arghhhhhhhhhh! She does like the T-shirt though!

Is it not available in the UK?
