Off to town in an hour - need wedding outfit for next Saturday, in London, help!

Right, have tried on my pre-DC clothes, none (quite) fit.

Going to a wedding in London next Saturday, sure everyone else will be v stylish & slim, pressure pressure

I'm about a size 12, have rapidly reducing norks (wearing my A cup bras again - having just stopped bf), want to be warm, smart, etc. etc.

What do I wear??????????????????

Shopping choices are limited to:
Debenhams
TK Maxx
Monsoon
Next
M&S
New Look
Primark

scraping the barrel....

Hmm, is there a 'budget'?

JustKeepSwimming · 17/01/2009 09:29

some ideas:

debenhams silver dress
(will need to think about shoes too though & not warm i wouldn't think!)

debenhams aqua dress
(same issues as above & maybe too near white for a guest?)

or:
debenhams satin trousers?
(find a nice top & jacket maybe?)

mrsSB - not really, i mean the cheaper the better but i have to have something to wear.
If i do nothing i will have to wear a slightly too big pair of boring black trousers (from matalan i think when desperate before a work thing) and find a top of some sort - have nothing particularly smart - am def not a yummy mummy!

I think a mid length coat is always good, you don't necessarily have to take it off, so gives 'flexibility' on what is worn underneath iyswim!

Coat from Monsoon -
here

Fascinator - here

I am thinking maybe a grey - possibly silky -shift dress, but haven't found anything yet... will have another look!

mrsseanbean · 17/01/2009 09:34

This fascinator may go better...

JustKeepSwimming · 17/01/2009 09:35

Oh i like the coat - can't imagine what to wear underneath though? a plain top and black trousers?
not sure i can carry off a fascinator - would probably spend all day fiddling with it!

OP posts:
mrsseanbean · 17/01/2009 09:35

Ooh spooky - x posts with swimming on the dress! Would the dress work under the coat, hmmm need to get both windows side by side

mrsseanbean · 17/01/2009 09:37

They have illustrtated it with black trousers so I guess that would be fine. But I am sure some more stylish ladies will be along to help you, I am usually the one asking for help rather than doling it out!

JustKeepSwimming · 17/01/2009 09:39

Could give the coat a try - or at least see if they have it in my branch.

now what about this:

m&s dress
is it hideous or trendy?
I have no style

OP posts:
mrsseanbean · 17/01/2009 09:41

Another dress here, maybe with a bolero style jacket?

JustKeepSwimming · 17/01/2009 09:41

m&s dress2
or this?
trying to find something warmer!

mrsseanbean · 17/01/2009 09:43

I like knitted dresses, but not sure about that colour - on me anyway! It may suit you. It is quite pretty but a bit casual...?? But that's probably just me!

Here's a matching jacket for purple dress.

JustKeepSwimming · 17/01/2009 09:43

The next one - like the colour & the top bit would distract from tiny boobs
looks cold though. + jacket maybe.
(& tights & shoes, argh, shoes)

Oh and i'm not great with heels, have some (a black pair & a navy pair) - could buy more but not massively tall ones.

OP posts:
JustKeepSwimming · 17/01/2009 09:45

COuld i just wear her outfit? with the trousers & vest?
Will try Next definitely.

AugustusGloop · 17/01/2009 09:45

Please don't do a fascinator they are so naff.

foxinsocks · 17/01/2009 09:45

there are loads of smart dresses in monsoon sale if that's what you're looking for

you'll need to try them on (i.e. don't take kids if you can!) as I always think their dresses are made to a really strange shape (though I'm willing to think I may have an odd body shape!)

mrsseanbean · 17/01/2009 09:46

The 2nd dress is quite nice I think - it looks good with the bright pink necklace. I would probably wear with a pink wrap and grey fascinator. But I am not stylish either so it's a case of the blind leading the blind!!

foxinsocks · 17/01/2009 09:47

can I be honest and say that rib dress would probably look great if you happen to be a very stylish person and can accessorise well

if you aren't (like me), it may end up looking like a very long vest

mrsseanbean · 17/01/2009 09:47

See - I told you I was not stylish!!

Good luck

YeahBut · 17/01/2009 09:47

this

with your trousers

SeymourButz · 17/01/2009 09:48

Budget?
Event?
LOCation?

JustKeepSwimming · 17/01/2009 09:49

Hey MrsSB -thanks, you don't have to go you know!!! you have helped

OP posts:
foxinsocks · 17/01/2009 09:50

evening or afternoon wedding..also v key

mrsseanbean · 17/01/2009 09:52

I am embarrassed to be doling out style advice swimming!! - my taste is - er - quite individual! I don't want to lead you astray as well! FWIW, I think fascinators or hats are a nice touch at a wedding, unless you really hate or don't suit them. It's a good excuse to glam up a bit imo. They also give a focal point so all the focus is not on my fat thighs outfit!!

JustKeepSwimming · 17/01/2009 09:53

Yeahbut - really like the first dress!

SO monsoon def added to the list.

Not taking children, thank god.
Have unlimited time (maybe not patience though!).

Event - wedding; church, walk round corner to restaurant for meal & drinks/evening do.
Location - Clerkenwell, London
Budget - not really sure, under £300? Lower the better, obv!

Yes, slim-ish, no boobs to speak of, saggy belly post 2 x pg .
Ok calves but not great with heels, tend towards trousers more but want to be smart.

fox - think the rib dress is prob a no-no but maybe i should try it on?
