Hobbs
Principles
Phase 8

Are you near one of those cutprice retail parks? I got some fab stuff from Phase 8 for less than half price for work.

mrsmaidamess · 04/01/2009 19:02

I reckon a couple of dresses are great for wearing to work. You can wear them with a cardi over, or over trousers (slim) or with boots, or funky tights.

janeite · 04/01/2009 19:05

Jones The Bootmakers for lovely, classic boots.

MrsSeanBean · 04/01/2009 19:08

Black pencil skirt / pair of trousers. Hobbs good for both. Their website has a great 'outfit suggestions' thing for work clothes as well as party/ casual. See here

M&S good for basic 3/4 length sleeve shirt (a treat to launder and £9.50, easy care and no need to iron really but pristine if you do) here

I used to have a couple of old Jigsaw skinny rib silk knit cardigans (in the good old Jigsaw days) which were good. Red and black.

Also a couple of plain white v/scoop neck tops to wear instead of shirts. Sainsburys TU range is good.

Bit boring I know (my work trademark alas) but hopefully a starting point if you have other bits & pieces.

AuraofDora · 04/01/2009 20:02

great ideas, thanks!
i have a phase 8 skirt and its really lovely, will check them out!
not near retail parks really but very easy access to high st, large dept stores etc..

janeite..was in jones over hols, and eyeing up some sale bargains but was really there only allowed to --look- for ds school shoes at the time
they must have a branch in london ..

maidamess - dont normally do dresses but will keep eye out for suitable ones, its a good idea ...

mrs s-b, thanks for the links, like the shirts - have something similar with large cuffs

its not a real dressy work environment but i am coming from being at the coalface of sahm-ness it dont look chic, lemme tell ya!
my work stuff does not fit me and has clearly dated..

have couple of days to browse and put together something, even hoping for a new handbag (and gladrags)! in the sales!

Tesco do some good things too

I usually wear something quite basic and then tart it up with a scarf or beads or earrings. A cardi over the top can change the outfit too.

Basic pair of black trousers
Black cardi
Grey trousers
Turquoise cardi
White top
Black top
Beads
Scarves
Pair of comfy boots - Clarks - trust me they are not frumpy!!

AuraofDora · 04/01/2009 20:16

majeika
i will check out clarks too!
i like the idea of your list.. i too need to make a list like that

i love using accessories need more scarfs and bits and bobs, i agree it can lift a whole outfit

am not near a big tesco though
can i ask does their does the stuff last?

If you want more dressy, LK Bennett is ok but might be OTT for what you need- rather smart. Have a peep online www.lkbennett.co.uk

I recommend Kew sometimes, and Jigsaw do have some plain worky-stuff in at the moment.

duckyfuzz · 04/01/2009 20:22

M&S limited edition do nice trousers at a decent price, also Kew have some good work tops in the sale at the moment (have just taken delivery of 6)

Majeika · 04/01/2009 20:23

I have found their stuff to be fine tbh and as I work in a school I wouldnt want to buy lots of expensive things anyway!!

Whether you get M&S or Kew or Ghost clothes, just have a basic capsule wardrobe and then chop and change with accessories.

janeite · 04/01/2009 20:27

Another vote for M&S Ltd Collection trousers. They are very good quality for the price. My other favourite place for work clothes is Gap for silk camis, long slim cardigans and lovely skirts.

AuraofDora · 04/01/2009 20:48

have nerver heard of kew

was looking at some nice shirts online at m&s
