bumpy red spots on upper arms!!!!!

Basically I have bumpy red spots on my upper arms. I started with a small patch but has grown bigger. The skin looks awful.

I used to have beautiful smooth skin before my children were born. It could be linked or maybe I don't spend enough time exxfoliating and rarely moisturising. It's only on my upper arms by the way. Any solutions?

I get these, mainly when my skin is quite dry. My sister gave me a rose & frankincense shea butter moisturiser and they just vanished! I've had them on and off for years too, they usually go in the summer when I get some sun on my skin and reappear in the winter.

IotasCat · 20/12/2008 16:52

it might be this

lilacclaire · 20/12/2008 17:40

I agree is prob KP.
You can exfoliate or moisturise every day, but to truly get rid you need to significantly increase you intake of EFA's.
I take 9 of these a day (when I remember) and they really work Udo's choice

for last week i have been making concerted effort with my upper arms... using one of those puffy scratchy ball things in shower with nice shower gel... then putting on nice moisturiser (with a bit of self tan in it) after i'm dry... already arms are looking MUCH better

cornsilk · 20/12/2008 17:49

bluebump- where does your sister get the cream from?

bluebump · 20/12/2008 18:01

It's this stuff. It's not even meant for that I just found it made my skin lovely (and it smells divine!) She got it in Bristol in their shop. It was a present last christmas and she's promised to get me some more this year too!

That link is interesting as it says sunlight clears it up and it does mine lots. I never thought about it being a specific condition before.

aam · 20/12/2008 18:12

Sorry but what are EFA's?

How long will they take to work?

Thanks to everyone for replying. I wonder how many people have this?

I just thought I was being too lazy to exfoliate every square inch now I have children.

aam · 20/12/2008 18:15

Do you have this Liffey?

LiffeySaysNollaigShona · 20/12/2008 18:25

I do. Add me to the list! I exfoliated it a bit too vigorously a while back and it got worse. Might look out for this rose and frankinsense cream.... I have just been spraying johnson's baby oil on it and it has got a bit better just using that though.

aam · 20/12/2008 18:26

It really affects my life. Would really appreciate 100% cure - if there is one!!

OK. I am going to tell you what worked for me but on the condition that you understand I have nooooo idea if its a good idea long term or if it will have dermatologistrs rushing to my hosue and wrestling me to the ground... after I tried mositurising etc etc and nothing doing blaa blaa... I tried scholl cracked heel cream. Not the boots one, just the scholl one. Worked amazingly quickly. Used it because I read somewhere about creams with urea in were useful.

LiffeySaysNollaigShona · 20/12/2008 18:32

I'm going to try it!! I even have a tube of that stuff somewhere so I can start NOW!

TheyCallMeStacey · 20/12/2008 18:34

I have this also and have recently started taking Perfectil which is a supplement to help your hair, skin and nails.
I started taking it as my hair is in rubbish condition since having kids.
But, I have really noticed in the last few weeks how much softer and smoother the skin on my upper arms is!
Will definately keep up the treatment. HTH.

Cathpot · 20/12/2008 18:35

OK. Then tell me if it worked for you as well or if I have based this theory on some amazing coincidence.

I also now have patches on my legs so going to do one leg and not the other to see if the theory holds up..

And I have now admitted that online.. (crawls off to find a life)

cornsilk · 20/12/2008 18:37

Thanks bluebump. I used to have lots of bumps on my upper arms but not so much now. I do quite a bit of arm exercise and that is supposed to help.

aam · 20/12/2008 18:40

My arms are a bit flabby. Do you think this makes a difference?

OP posts:
moshie · 20/12/2008 18:42

I used to have this, but started taking omega oil capsules (supposedly to help my memory ) and only noticed it was gone when someone started a thread about it.

LiffeySaysNollaigShona · 20/12/2008 18:42

No. My arms have never been fat. I think it's cos they never see the light of day, and they never will covered in red pimples.

LiffeySaysNollaigShona · 20/12/2008 18:43

also, another theory of mine is that your shampoo or showergel runs down on to your shoulders and upper arms, making them very dry??

clarebear1 · 20/12/2008 23:16

Ive got this on my upper arms ans slightly on my thighs, doctor said it was 'Keratosis Pilaris' just exfoliate and pick them it can be a genetic fing coz my 2 year old daughters got it too and my DP. The doctor gave her some cream ill try to find it and tell u the name.

CurlyhairedAssassin · 28/12/2008 00:08

I've got this! Never knew it had a name! Just thought I wasn't looking after my skin properly. Upper arms, thighs and buttocks (yuck!). DS2 (2) also got it quite bad on his upper arms.

Moshie, what kind of omega oil capsules do you take?

ah, I've got this on my upper arms and the backs of my thighs since dd was born. it seems to come and go but I pick at it when i'm distracted so get scars, which look horrible. good to see people think there are creams etc to ward it off.
