for my pre-Christmas cut and colour, and I hate it! I am too wet to go and tell them, so what can I do >
Main problem is that they used too much bleach, or left it too long. I usually look honey-coloured, now I am brassy blond. Is there something I can buy in Boots to fade it a bit???

if it fades , it's going to look like a dull all-over peroxide job though, isn't it?

I have a friend whose natural hair-colour is quite a dark brown but she has it done in different honey blonde shades and it looks fabulous.

Maybe just this once you'll have to fork out a lot to get it fixed if you can't face going back there.

What a bummer, just before Christmas too. I hate botched hair jobs.

ha ha leopard skin turban maybe

Any turban really

Well short of shaving it all off, you are going to have to go back there sometime by the sounds of things, if there is no alternative and then you will have to get them to sort it out so you are just putting it off in the end

See what I mean?

MincepieBorage · 19/12/2008 21:13

it won't fade, and if you dye it darker then you will need to be really careful as if you don't add warmer (red) tones to it first it will look greeny grey and very unnatural, if you add the red tones yourself, you are guaranteed to screw it up and it will go orange. I speak from experience. Your only option is to go to another hairdresser, and pay more money to have it sorted.

GeorgeAndTimmy · 19/12/2008 21:13

Yes, leopard print would be just the thing .
I take your point Santa, but much as I hate it, I would rather wait and go back in a couple of months and then be assertive about what I want, than go in now, be embarrassed, get it fixed, but be too embarrassed to ever go there again. Normally, the job they do is fine.
All I want it to just be a little less blonde! > bloody hairdressers for making me feel small (and now, tarty)

SSSantaClausIzzzComing · 19/12/2008 21:21

Sorry I know you want to be left in peace and not told to go and get it fixed!

DoesntChristmasDragOn · 19/12/2008 21:23

[hard stare]

don't make me singe all your bottle blonde hair off your head with dragon fire....

Blondilocks · 19/12/2008 21:32

I'm sure to everyone else it looks lovely, but that's no consolation if you don't like it. (Everyone says my natural hair is lovely but I don't think so!!)

I would NOT do anything to it yourself. My hairdresser was saying that funny things can happen if you do home dye too soon after another dye has been used. Even sun in on blonde highlights she said can be a big no no.

I doubt they will laugh at you. The girl will probably worry that she did a crap job & that it's her fault & she's upset you etc.

If you're happier to just live with it for a few months then go back now & get it fixed then make sure that you tell them you don't think the colours used this time were right for you.

GeorgeAndTimmy · 19/12/2008 21:37

Sniff. Thaks again for your kind words.

No magic solution then? Bah humbug

OP posts:
Blondilocks · 19/12/2008 21:41

Is there anything you can do with it like an updo or clips to distract attention away from it?

Sorry I can't think of any magic solution

alfiemamagotstuckupthechimney · 21/12/2008 17:19

The silver shampoo is good, if you really cant face going back. You get it in a silver box, sorry cant remember the name of it, but its a purple shampoo, I got mine from lloyds chemist. hang on I have a shine spray by the same make, I will go and have a root.

alfiemamagotstuckupthechimney · 21/12/2008 17:22

Back again

drum roll please lol

touch of silver by swarzkoph (sorry about spelling) hope that helps, maybe google it or try ebay if no joy at chemist

soopermum1 · 21/12/2008 18:34

you must go back. you will spend more money in the long run trying to get it sorted when the roots grow through.

alternatively, i have heard tomato sauce left on it is meant to take the 'brassiness' out of it. disclaimer, have never tried or known anyone else that has tried.

LaCerbiatta · 22/12/2008 12:23

I know this is the completely wrong thing to say, but I would also not go back. I'm just like you, I always say I love what they've done to my hair and then get home in tears because I hate it so much!.... (I'm usually brave and assertive, just not with hairdressers)
Something similar has hapenned to me twice before and I've just bought something in boots to tone it down and it was fine. My hair was never bleached out, just too light or brassy for my liking (I'm quite dark) so I used a dark blonde Movida for less than the recommended time and it worked very well.
Semi permanent colours only add pigment, so the worse that can happen is it being too dark, right? Can it really go green with an amonia free semi permanent one?

Why don't you try those toner sachets that rinse off? If it doesn't come out well you only need to wash your hair a couple of times. If you like it, then I'm sure you only need to apply it 2 or 3 times for your blond to tone downa bit.

Disclaimer: Please don't blame me if it does go green! This is just my experience and what I would do!

SueW · 22/12/2008 12:34

I had a similar experience at a salon last year but luckily I had a SIL who could sort it out - she put lowlights or something in.

Unfortunately I had my photo taken in between and my hair looks absolutely hideous in it.

I now have a very, very good hairdresser/colourist who charges much less the last one did. He now has four additional clients because I'm so happy with my hair and others have admired it.

I don't recommend the old one. I don't slag them off either; I just say I wasn't happy, they are very expensive for a local suburban salon and why not try this one instead.

Hope you have it sorted by now, OP.

LaCerbiatta · 22/12/2008 13:51

Where do you live Sue?

GeorgeAndTimmy · 22/12/2008 22:18

Ah, help has come .
So, I could buy this silver shampoo, sachets of toner or Movida (is this a brand name or a type of prduct?). I will have a look tomorrow and see what looks suitable. I will report if I turn green lol! Thanks so much. Thanks too to all those who told me to go back, I do appreciate your attempts at getting me some balls

dsrplus8 · 23/12/2008 01:12

hiya ,its metalic salts in hair dyes that make bleached hair go green,as long as you avoid metalic salts and stick to semi perminents or tonners you should be ok, but if in doubt leave alone! if your desperate to get a cheep fix , try local hairdressing college, the tutor would fix it for a small charge providing the trainees can watch and learn.....hope you get it sorted soon.

SueW · 23/12/2008 11:07

I live Derbys/Notts border.

Hairdresser is Hairway to Heaven, Station Road, Ilkeston tel 0115 932 3929. Nr the M&S Food. Any good for you?

(I pay £48 for colour and cut - I'll try to upload a photo later but I have to go out now!)

LaCerbiatta · 23/12/2008 12:09

at £48 for colour and cut!! I would pay around £100 in Cambridge, where I live......

That's why I'm so familiar with doing it at home. How could I possibly aford £100 per month to keep my grey hairs hidden?....

LaCerbiatta · 23/12/2008 12:11

GeorgeandTimmy: Movida is a brand name. It washes off in 6 weeks (I think...). The toners come in single use doses and wash off in a couple of washes.

Good luck!

SueW · 24/12/2008 00:11

I used to pay £70-80 in an 'unbranded' town centre salon and not much more if I went to Toni and Guy in Derby.

I'm delighted to find someone who can charge less and doesn't just think that every woman who is getting older and showing the odd grey hair should be turned blonde!

BellaNoir · 24/12/2008 17:33

@tugamommy - have you tried anywhere just out of Cambridge? There's a fab hairdresser in Ely where they charge £58 for colour, foils and cut, it's Simon Taylor.
