I've bought this dress. I only own black boots as brown doesn't suit me. Do you think I can get away with black footwear with this dress? White Stuff and Fat Face sell so many lovely things but they always seem to have brown as a base colour.

It would deffo look best with brown boots. Sorry.
I dont see how brown boots can't suit you though, as they are so far away from your face/hair colour etc!

katch · 30/11/2008 14:04

Are you sure about brown not suiting you?
If you have a colour consultation you'll find out which shades of brown are right for you - and, unless you're a 'winter', you shouldn't be wearing black at all.
This dress does look as if black boots would cheapen it, and, regarding you feeling the brown doesn't suit, it's only really crucial when it's close to your face.
Can't tell properly from the pic, but maybe purple might be an alternative.

HeadFairy · 30/11/2008 14:09

I would be tempted to wear some brown bikers boots with it. I agree, something flat in brown suede would look best. Black would be too overwhelming for the colours of the dress.

HeadFairy · 30/11/2008 14:10

now these are nice brown biker boots

princessmel · 30/11/2008 14:14

Ooh I wouldn't wear biker boots. Am trying to find a pair that I'd wear....

princessmel · 30/11/2008 14:16

I have these and I LOVE them...

See heels look wrong with that dress for me, but I'm a giant so heels in general put me off, hence my obssession with biker boots

katch · 30/11/2008 14:22

Wouldn't biker boots be too short with this dress, making you look stumpy-legged?

princessmel · 30/11/2008 14:22

flat www.next.co.uk/shopping/women/shoes/9/6

katch · 30/11/2008 14:31

I have a very similar dress from White Stuff (same shape), and I wear it with pointy-toed, spike-heeled brown boots.
They don't leave a huge 'knee gap', and they make the calves look slim and the feet pretty (a tall order for me!)

What you wear depends on what your style is - mine is quite classic but feminine, others will be more dramatic, others more natural (ie biker boots/ Uggs).

Once you know that everything in your wardrobe will go together, as it will all suit YOU.

HeadFairy · 30/11/2008 15:30

I have very long legs (they're fat, so it's not all great ) so stumpy wouldn't be a prob for me, but I can see what you mean. I'm such a geezerbird

pinked · 30/11/2008 16:54

Just a vote for the KG biker boots. I'm not a geezerbird and I think they're great - they have broad appeal!

giraffescantdancethetango · 30/11/2008 17:15

Id wear flat knee high boots

Benjy · 30/11/2008 17:31

Sorry I disappeared - DD needed me.

I thought that might be the reply and you're all right - brown it is. I would love to wear heels but can't: they make the balls of my feet burn. I like biker boots but not sure they are right for this dress. Katch, I think you're right but I tend to swing between natural and classic/feminine. Would like some feminine boots/shoes with a low heel (say no more than 1inch). Any suggestions?

The dress finishes just below my knees. I'm quite short at about 5'4" so not sure I could get away with totally flat boots.

Internet running too slow to get the link up, but duo boots are great, they do different calf fittings really narrow to really wide and I just got a great pair of nearly flat boots that look fab.

Benjy · 30/11/2008 18:04

Thanks. Will have a look. Have read a few threads recently where some mnetters have been disappointed with Duo, which puts me of a little.

Any other suggestions? Also, what about accessories? I normally wear short chunky bead necklaces but don't have any that go with these colours.

Hmm...really shouldn't have bought this dress, should I? Goes with nothing I already have but just loved the colours and design. I was feeling a little dowdy post-baby and this seemed the perfect dress to give me a lift... and it was on sale though it's working out to be an expensive purchase!

Katch, what is a 'winter'? Is this from teh colours thread?

Cool colours suit me; the only warmer colour I can wear is gold.

I am very pale-skinned with pinkish cheeks, dark brown hair and greenish eyes with specks of brown or "dirty coloured" as an aunt once called them

OP posts:
wonderstuff · 30/11/2008 18:28

i have these in black and love them

greenday · 30/11/2008 18:41

Wonderstuff, that looks lovely - where are they from? And are they leather?

Benjy · 30/11/2008 18:56

wonderstuff, I like your boots but not sure about the toes - look like they point up a bit? - also not sure that black soles and heels look right with brown boots?

OP posts:
katch · 30/11/2008 18:58

A 'winter' is someone who falls into that category as it relates to skin/hair/eye colour.

They usually have very striking colouring - Dark brown/black hair, blue eyes, pale skin with a cool tone.

It's impossiblr to say whatanyone is 100% without draping scores of different coloured fabrics by their face.

You say cool colurs suit you, but gold is warm, and your eye colour sounds warm too.

Sorry to go on - I just think having this done saves so much time and angst.

dougal3 · 30/11/2008 19:52

Benjy - it's a great dress. River Island do a load of flat-tish boots at the moment, slightly more "feminine" than the biker boots and with a variety of heels.
You could also play safe with the dreaded ballet pump style thing. Again M & S had a variety a while back, tho' don't know what they have at the moment.
And I know converse are a bit 'over' and not ideal for Winter but still plausible at a push.
You could accessorise with long gold chain pendant things too because of the V-neck.
All of that would push the dress away from its "surfer-girl" home to a slightly more "feminine" place.
If that's what you want.
Sorry, been at the Christmas Baileys - so no links.

wonderstuff · 01/12/2008 11:41

They are leather, they don't point up they are duo only boots that look good on my skinny calfs
