Talk to me about hair straighteners please!

Ok I have a dilemma, I need a new set of straighteners as my last pair has had it (after 5 years!).

The ones I had before were Remington wet to straight I think, with the heat setting on the top of them which meant I often accidentally turned it down/off.

Now I don't know which new ones to buy, I have used GHD's before and know they are good but now there are so many other ceramics out there are they still the best?

My hair is quite fine but there is a lot of it if that makes sense? It's not thick there are just lots of strands and it's quite long about 2" from my elbow. If I leave it to dry naturally it has a slight wave to it, a bit like rats tails, but not full on curls. I can easily blow dry it dead straight with a bit of time and effort but after a day of 2 it goes to rats tails so I use the straighteners to keep it looking neat 1/2 times a week.

When I go out I normally use the straighteners to curl my hair which I have been able to do using standard squarish plates so the design of the mk4 GHDs in neither here nor there for me as I can curl hair with any design IYSWIM.

I am umming and ahhing over GHDs MK4 RRP £119ish or BaByliss 2085U Pro 230°C Straighteners which are in John Lewis for £23.50 so a very big difference here!

Anyone have any experience of either of these brands or any other recommendations?

Thanks!

I think it's either go for GHDs or the good economy ones are the babyliss pro 230 ones you've mentioned, I'd need to check the model number though - I think I've got the 2075U ones which were RRP £60 last year & can get them on ebay for £10.

The GHD's are better though but they often die after a couple of years.

Has anyone heard of ghs

Will for £15 delivered I would def recommend the babyliss 230 2075U ones, they are loads better than my previous ones, heat up quick, have a variable setting. Just hold them upside down otherwise you keep switching them off with your thumb by accident

alleve · 29/11/2008 22:49

I've got GHD's and don't rate them. The babyliss 230's are much better and I'm looking for them on sale. They straighten your hair superbly, still straight even after a wash.

I will give the £100 GHD's to DD and keep the babyliss as mine.

navyeyelasH · 29/11/2008 22:58

hmmm if I get the babyliss and I hate them can I take them back? I don't really know what the rules are!?

I rate them because I bought them and they were great but then went faulty, so sent then back, then bought the GHD's because all my DD's friends were getting them last christmas.

I still want to buy the Babyliss 230's again. They are brilliant. Cost around £50. You won't be dissapointed.

navyeyelasH · 29/11/2008 23:06

are these the 230s you guys are talking about link as they are only £24 in John Lewis; or do I have the wrong ones in mind?

SleighGirl · 29/11/2008 23:10

yes they must be because mine were with accessories like here for £20

"They straighten your hair superbly, still straight even after a wash." How??

I've got She which are identical to ghds and 1/2 the price. I find straightening hair boring though so am not the best advert.

blackmonday · 29/11/2008 23:14

FHI's are brilliant. Got mine brand new from ebay for £60. They've got temp setting and leave hair soft and shiny and super straight. would def say better than ghd and cheaper!

oops, sorry they're not that good!

alleve · 29/11/2008 23:25

Buy them at £20. I will. Yes they even keep your hair straight after washing! Try them.

Tinker · 29/11/2008 23:26

But how?? Sorry, don't want a row about straighteners but how could they?

alleve · 29/11/2008 23:29

Have you tried them Tinker? I have and its true. My hair is quite fine though.

Tinker · 29/11/2008 23:31

No, not tried them. Am intrigued. I could buy them for xmas for me my eldest

alleve · 29/11/2008 23:50

Buy them for her, then nick them. [grin}

navyeyelasH · 30/11/2008 00:16

so confusing don't want to waste money - might just get the cheap 230 babylis ones and see if I can take them back if they don't work on my hair.

I had GHDs and thought it was the end of the world when they stopped working,my hairdresser recommened i got Remington straight and sleek i think theyre called {in argos) I got them and they are in my opinion as good as!!!!

PuppyMonkey · 30/11/2008 14:44

I can assure you that nothing on this earth would keep my hair straight "even after washing"!!

I have had my GHDs for about six years now and they are still going strong...
