Anyone want to offer an opinion on an outfit I am considering for a wedding - I need help...

DH is refusing to offer an opinion

I have a wedding to attend in 2 weeks when I will be 18 weeks pg. The dress in the photo is not a maternity one but it is sort of empire line...

I am open to honest opinions and other suggestions if necessary, as I still have some time in order to go shopping.

I am a size 20 and have large norks and tummy (normally let alone when pg...)

Photo on my profile for a short period only.

The dress is ok but I'm not very keen on the boots with it. It might look nice over trousers, a la Trinny and Susannah

brimfull · 29/11/2008 12:40

I think it's nice but you need to wear tights that match the boots I think .

SoupDragon · 29/11/2008 12:41

I'm fence sitting. It's a lovely dress but there's something wrong. I think maybe it was the boots that don't work.

cece · 29/11/2008 12:41

Oh yes I would wear tights, just don't keep them in the house normally so couldn't put any on today What colour black or neutral?

photo at a funny angle too

and do you need a better bra darling??

brimfull · 29/11/2008 12:41

black tights

Hassled · 29/11/2008 12:42

It's a lovely dress, but I don't like the gap of flesh between the dress and the boots - either wear tights and heels, or tights and boots. Or bare legs and heels.

Chocolatedays · 29/11/2008 12:42

Agree with scootergrrrl - or try darker tights

SoupDragon · 29/11/2008 12:42

Can you take a photo from higher up so the camera's looking at you not up at you?

Oh hear well the boots are the only high heels I possess so not sure what to do now !

I do have a charcoal pair of wide legged silk trousers... if they fit me at the moment... I would say normally a dress over trousers isn't my normal style... but I might try it on together later. Oh and I also have black velvet wide legged ones too.

personally I like it with the boots ...wear with black opaque tights

cece · 29/11/2008 12:44

Yes the angle is a bit funny my 7 year old took it! LOL I may try again later as have now got changed into civies...

Thick black tights but I think the boots dress it down. Why not shoes?

cece · 29/11/2008 12:47

I can't walk in high heel shoes, or at least if I can I look like a man in drag. LOL

I have a numb foot, a leftover from a prolapsed disc in my back, so shoes just fall off unless they are high up. A low cut heeled shoe would just fall off all the time.

7 yo's are at such an unflattering height IMO

cece · 29/11/2008 12:49

Yes I am epecially pleased with my double chin

Well you'll be ok with the boots - it is a winter wedding - but maybe you could dress it up with some nice jewellery or (dare i say it?) a fascinator?

BibiThree · 29/11/2008 12:51

Lose the boots, definitely. They make the dress less weddingy iykwim? I am a similar shape myself and knee boots do me no favours.
Black tights and heels is the way to go I think.
Ggirl was right about the bra too - but it could be the 7-year old angle of the photo taking that does your boobs no justice

Beautiful colour dress for winter though.

cece · 29/11/2008 12:52

'Tis my best bra, think it might be the angle (at least I hope it is) as from my view I was imagining a spectacular cleavage!

Thanks for th eopinons so far, all very helpful.

I don't think the wedding is going to be hugely dressy afaik. I am certainly not a dressy person at all. I never wear skirts in winter due to hating tights - but do wear them for special occasions.

I will get dh to take a photo later and will come back for some more opinions...

I am amazed so many people have said it is OK. As DH wouldn't offer an opinion I thought it must be hideous!

Although if anyone has any suggestions for shoes that might go and that I have a chance of keeping on/walking in I would be grateful.

I like it. I think you need a nice scarf too so you dont look cold.

cece · 29/11/2008 13:02

Ah, the outdoors bit.

I was going to wear a tailored winter coat over the top, wool with smart buttons and a collar but don't ask the colour! Knee length.

suwoodolf · 29/11/2008 13:04

Would look nice over wide legged trousers. As it is in the picture with the boots- no. (Sorry )

cece · 29/11/2008 13:06

Don't be sorry all views welcome... As you say the boots are causing a bit of controversy.

I will try with and without trousers (if I can get them on) later and get dh to take the photo.
