do you try and get your dds shoes to match her clothes? its really hard with dd in her sensible clark shoe, put something nice on, and the shoes ruin it

lovelysongbirdfliesaway · 25/11/2008 18:48

so what do you do with your dd? do you have several pairs of shoes?

i always think oh dd should wear sensible shoes, but they look so clumpy

Hello songbird! How are you? I agree re the shoes, I went to Clarks and because DD2 is so petite their shoes looked like blocks of cement on her feet. I too use an independent shoe shop which sells everything from Start Rite to the more expensive brands (such as Pom d'api!). They seem to have far more prettier shoes.

Waves to Lulumama! Is it Zapatoes you go to Lulu?

needmorecoffee · 25/11/2008 20:59

80 quid for toddler shoes?
I did have the school moaning on at dd not wearing shoes so told them to buy them if they were that bothered.

lulumama · 25/11/2008 21:00

yes, zapatoes. i shall save these boots for your DD2.. they are lush !

sorry not been in touch this week, been maaaaaaaad busy ! am definiely, definitely going to make time to see you next week

do i have your correct mobile number?

GrimmaTheNome · 25/11/2008 21:00

I suppose they accumulate more as they get older, but the rate of growth slows down. Summer sandals (which sometimes work with dresses at other times of year) may last two or even three years.

Now she's 9, DD has:
black school shoes
trainers
sparkly monsoon sandals
Cica beach sandals (her favourite)
wellies
walking boots
white school trainers
and football boots!

...good thing she's not (unlike some of her friends) mini fashionistas who also require smart boots, pretty casual shoes....I wouldn't start your little DDs on that habit if I were you

pgwithnumber3 · 25/11/2008 21:07

Lulu, I took a pair of Lelli Kelly boots back there last week (DD1's), she had worn them 3 times and the zip had gone. I am praying DD2 doesn't get sucked in by the Lelli Kelly mass marketing. Their sale starts soon so will be hot footing back for some boots for DD2. I think you have DH's mobile number, I used it for a couple of days when I had lost my phone (text you on it) but have mine back now so if you need that number, I will pass you it.

lulumama · 25/11/2008 21:11

DHs friend gave DD 3 pairs of lelly kellys. please text me your number as am all confused as to whose number i have now will look out for the sale. well, DH will, he is a shoe fiend!

BibiThree · 25/11/2008 21:18

DD (4) has

  • sensible school shoes
  • school trainers for PE days
  • play trainers for the ILs farm which get filthy and could not be worn to school with sheep doodoo stains on them
  • wellies for home and the farm
  • wellies to keep in school for foundation phase 'outside classroom' activitiesi.e. puddle jumping in the yard
  • cheap "party" shoes for well, parties

which is quite a lot actually but they are all needed except the party shoes

hazeyjane · 25/11/2008 21:21

dd1 (2.8) has one pair of brown clumpy boy shoes which look lovely with dresses and trousers, a pair of Charlie and Lola slippers and a pair of red wellies 9which she would wear every day given the choice)

dd2 (18 months) started walking this week (YAY!) and has one pair of Clarks Mary Janes.

lovelysongbirdfliesaway · 25/11/2008 21:32

My two year old has

a pair of red Crocs which also double as slippers on cold days

a pair of purple ankle boot type things, rather like lovelysongbird's link above

a pair of wellies (white with pink flowers)

I actually love to see her in her wellies with a dress on. It looks cute as anything. I honestly think three kinds of footwear is more than enough for a toddler!

pgwithnumber3 · 26/11/2008 10:27

songbird - things are not too great here, DH's business folded, had to put our house up for sale, we have another house which is mortgaged to the hilt and we cannot rent it out, living off savings which is diminishing FAST and I cannot go out to work to help. Yesterday DH and I were on verge of splitting up but have managed to work things out, for now. Other than that, everything is fine! I am 30 weeks now, can't believe only 10 weeks to go. We are liking the name Camille at the moment but to be honest, this poor baby is going to born and be nameless as we barely discuss names as our heads are not in the right place.

Toddlers are hard! DD2 starting to throw her weight around but up to know, she is an angel. It will all change soon though. Don't know how I will cope with 2 babies, a 6 year old, no money etc. As long as we are all okay that is the main thing.

Fimbo · 26/11/2008 10:35

This is my pet hate, it really winds me up for some reason (and yes it's not important in the grand scheme of things), pretty dress and horrid black clumpy school shoes.

My dh despairs at the amount of shoes that dd has.

It's easier with a boy though - ds has school shoes, trainers, crocs and wellies.

conniedescending · 26/11/2008 10:38

my 2 year old has those exact boots songbird and I think they look ok with skirts and tights. I'm talking thick wooly tights and casual skirts e.g.denim/ cord etc.....not flouncy party stuff. She has those boots, wellies and some sparkly satin party shoes.

My dd is quite chunky so they look ok teemed with tights...if you have a skinny minny I can see why they might look abit clunky but at this age it doesnt really matter....does it??

geogteach · 26/11/2008 10:52

cheap party / dress up shoes for littlies, get some black school plimsoles (£2 woolies), then buy sparkly fabric paint and cover them. chepa enough to have in more than one colour and the paint does more than one pair of shoes.

lljkk · 26/11/2008 11:14

How funny, (some) grown women trying to pass on a shoe obsession to their DDs!

Crikey, if DD's hair got brushed in the mornings she'd look smashing, I have yet to build up to worrying about footwear coordination.

Miyazaki · 26/11/2008 13:42

I'm guessing that you don't have a school age dd.

Habbibu · 26/11/2008 13:43

"smashing" That's a word you don't hear often enough. Let's bring it back.

onebatmother · 26/11/2008 14:54

HABBIBU!!!!
Have you not heard of Ebay, woman??

But yes, I am Gwyneth.

bozza · 26/11/2008 15:23

DD is 4, the last couple of years I have bought her a pair of boots (and I would class your DD's shoes as boots) in late September/early October and then bought a pair of black patents when the party season starts. Then probably boots outgrown by the sales, so another pair of boots then, then another pair of shoes in about March to last until sandal season.

I think those clumpy ankle boots look fine with thick tights and denim pinafores, but less good with pretty party dresses.

This winter DD has:
brown zip up boots from Clarks
red trainers from next
grey seude party shoes from next (didn't do black patent because she starts reception in jan)

She also has slippers, wellies, tap shoes, ballet shoes, crocs leftover from summer.

princessmel · 26/11/2008 15:28

Dd has some brown ugg type boots that go with lots of things,
pink wellies,
pretty pink shoes she wore to a wedding,
white shoes she wore to another wedding!,
Some Roberto Cavali tan coloured boots that were passed onto her,

So loads of choices

TartanKnickers · 26/11/2008 15:36

My DD(6) has loads of shoes, She is my only DD out of 5 kids so she does get spoiled with the girly stuff.

She has black clarks school shoes, lelli kelly trainers, long brown boots, long pink boots, baseball boots, pink fancy shoes, silver fancy shoes, black fancy shoes, black UGG type boots, wellies, crocs, a pair of hideous wedges she bought when out with my mum, pink kickers and a pair of football boots she wears to rugby

lovelysongbirdfliessouth · 26/11/2008 19:48

PG, oh i am so sorry to hear that.
it is crazy times atm, are you planing on moving into the other house?
i know its a cliche but as long as you all have your health that really is all that matters, everything else is just stuff.

i thought i hadn't seen you around much.
have you had any viewings yet?

Swedes · 26/11/2008 22:14

DD is just 3 and has a pair of navy Startrite 'Lousia' shoes and a pair of wellies. And that's it. In the summer she had Startrite brown t-bar sandals (think Peter and Jane) and a pair of Woolies canvas shoes and that's it. And my 17 month old baby has no shoes at all.

Shall we start a shoe swap pool?
