Coat ???? Would you wear it if you were a 26yr old mum with a 2 yr old? I know I sound very ungreatful but my dad (but really his partner) said he wants to buy me a coat for christmas as I said I didn't have a warm everyday coat to wear-they told me to find one and he'd pay for it. I've been looking around and had trouble but found one i LOVE from Benetton at the weekend, but the buggers didn't have it in my size. Whilst i've been looking there have been some serious hints about this coat-BIG hints that this is the coat I should have. But its £400!!!!!!! How can i wear a coat that costs that much to toddler groups and the park??!!! Plus it looks lovely but maybe a tad old for me?
I don't know-i know it'll be amazing quality etc but it just feels wrong-am I bein stupid?

I think a good coat is a great thing to have when you are charging around parks/toddler groups.

It's nice to have a bit of loveliness as part of your every day - if they can afford it, and you like it, and there aren't any strings/strangeness I would say thank you very much daddy (and partner)

Notreallycutoutforthis · 24/11/2008 16:18

Take it! It's gorgeous! Not too old, just classic. And being well made, it should stand up to a bit of roughness better than something that costs less (and won't be half as nice in 5 years). What size are you? I'll have it if you really don't like it

sammysam · 24/11/2008 16:19

But won't it get ruined? And is it nice? She has a real bee in her bonnet about me getting a Jaeger coat-I can't wear black, grey or navy so that really is the only one....what do you think?

MissisBoot · 24/11/2008 16:19

I probably wouldn't wear it if I was 26 and had a toddler - It's long length so would get filthy in the park and its not really an everyday coat. I think it may be a bit too 'old' for you.

However, it also looks like an amazing coat and would last you forever and its lovely to have a really expensive coat. Would you have enough childfree opportunities to wear it - or you could say you'd like something like that for your 30th then your dc would be at school so limited opportunities for grubby finger marks on the coat!

wideratthehips · 24/11/2008 16:21

the coat is wonderful.....it would be rude not too!

Miyazaki · 24/11/2008 16:23

Looks knee length to me - 103cm... I like it. Won't get any more ruined than any other red coat and will prob stay looking good for longer.

sammysam · 24/11/2008 16:23

Is it too classic classic? I'm a 10/12.
I'm worried about mud etc and just being too worried about wearing it

its a lovely coat for going out but will it really be warm enough to wear in park ect in the winter? ime you need padding for everyday wear (i know its not stylish but i hate being cold!)

Miyazaki · 24/11/2008 16:25

Have you seen it in RL? I think that if that much money is being spent you do really need to get it on your back. Once it is on you will know...

sammysam · 24/11/2008 16:27

Thats just it-I very rarely have childfree opportunities-VERY RARELY and the lenght is what I was worried about!
She is pushing it so hard it is getting very awkward .......

sammysam · 24/11/2008 16:28

I know-she wants to order it online-but that scares the hell out of me need to try it on....maybe i'll see if there is a store near me....

OP posts:
princessmel · 24/11/2008 16:34

I think it is too old. Sorry! And too long and grannyish!
I think there are lots more younger coats that have similar styling aroung at the moment.

sammysam · 24/11/2008 16:39

princessmel-to be honest that is exactly what i have been thinking-plus it just isn't right for my lifestyle at the moment. Trouble is on our last phonecall she got a bit funny-she REALLY wants me to get it.....and i just don't get it!!!!!
There is a store i could go into at the weekend to see if they have it but i'm quite scared they'll take one look at me and laugh !

Its a beautiful coat, but its not practical for going to the park and doing things with a toddler imo, and i think it is too old looking too, i like this one better

moondog · 24/11/2008 16:48

It's lovely Sam but v smart and formal.Ole Vinegar's choice is lovely.
Blimey, didn't know Jaeger did some nice stuff.I'm off for a recce.

VinegarTits · 24/11/2008 16:52

Less of the Ole, MoonDawg....

You could were that one with jeans and flat shoes/pumps too, and i nice cream polo neck jumper

princessmel · 24/11/2008 16:56

vinegars one is much more 'your age'

Does it have to be from there?

sammysam · 24/11/2008 16:57

I do prefer that one-but will it look quite blue? Blue and me don't get on

OP posts:
sammysam · 24/11/2008 16:59

IMO no it really doesn't-but for some reason she is pushing that shop
where else could I look-similar quality etc?

OP posts:
Fimbo · 24/11/2008 17:04

I would take it and use it for non toddler activities.

Buy yourself a cheap everyday thing instead.

cremolafoam · 24/11/2008 17:04

i think if you are not sure you shouldn't get it.£400 is a lot of money for a coat youre not sure about. I think you must absolutely love it.I wouold get out there and try some on.For £400 i would want to feel fabulous and be the envy of everyone.
BTW i like the red Jaegar one.

It's very lovely, but you could get similar for much much less money.

AmIWhatAndWhy · 24/11/2008 17:06

Debenhams have some great things.

cremolafoam · 24/11/2008 17:09

not dissimilar for £70

Flightattendant4 · 24/11/2008 17:11

Have they already bought it?!

It is nice btw but you can get cheaper ones just as nice I think.
