I went to Bravissimo to get some new bras....

..thinking I was a 34DD and have come home with 3 new 32F bras!!!!!

How can I have got it so wrong? My old bras do seem to fit, but so do the new ones.

I also feel a bit upset about this new ludicrous bra size. My friend says 32F are comedy breats aka benny Hill.

I didn't think they were that ridiculously big

Anyone else had a similar bravissimo experience?

I think 32F sounds slimmer and slinkier and sexier than 34DD! I suspect your friend is very jealous!

AlistairSim · 18/11/2008 16:21

Slightly at your norkage.

I went down a few cup sizes after being measured by Bravissimo.

I liked my baggy cups, I always had somewhere to store a tissue.

doggiesayswoof · 18/11/2008 16:23

Not bravissimo, but I did go from a 36/38B to a 34DD a few years back when I went to an independent shop

I think it's common for high street places esp. M&S to measure too big round the back and too small for cup size.

don't stress - it's just a number...as long as they fit and look good.

MrsBadger · 18/11/2008 16:23

oh yes, went in a 36C and came out a 32DD

was pg at the time though

doggiesayswoof · 18/11/2008 16:23

lol @ baggy cups

Lizzzombie · 18/11/2008 16:25

32F is a lovely size to be.
Your friend is a dimwit and needs to get her size checked properly too.
32 F is a very average size to be these days.
Its not large. 32 K is large.
Its most definately not ludicrous.

I used to work at Bravissimo and the average size I sold was a 34G and I now work as a bra fitter in Mothercare, and hardly ever sell anything less than an E cup.

Get yourself down to Debenhams tomorrow - Friday. There is a -25% off sale there, and they have LOTS of 32F's.

Annthecat · 18/11/2008 16:29

The bras themselves look huge, well the one with moulded cups does. Even my Mum said 'this is enormous' when folding my laundry(at laundry folding).

You think it sounds slinkier and sexier? I will try to belive that, I was thinking it's either matronly or pornesque. Neither was the look I was hoping for.

I know it's all in the mind, as in realty I'm the same size as before I went in. But 32F?!?!?

RhinestoneCowgirl · 18/11/2008 16:29

I used to be a 32F - it's a great size to be . I'm a bit bigger atm due to pg and can't wear any lovely bras but will be making the trip to Bravissimo as soon as this one is born to sort out some nicer nursing bras than I had last time round.

BusyBeeWithThree · 18/11/2008 16:30

I was wearing 34B and came home after being measured with 32D - I am not complaining

Lizzzombie · 18/11/2008 16:30

You are two cup sizes smaller than me, and I definately don't think of myself as matronly!!!!

Mayb pornesque when I've had a few vodkas - but thats another thread!

Annthecat · 18/11/2008 16:31

REally Lizzombie? Then why don't MandS sell these sizes? I felt DD was uge in MandS whilst rummaging thorough all the B cups.

OP posts:
Annthecat · 18/11/2008 16:31

lol Lizzombie!

Lizzzombie · 18/11/2008 16:32

They DO sell those sizes! But, for some reason totally unbeknown to me, they hardly ever fit people into them. Its really weird. I have no idea why. But, if you rummage enough there you will find some. F/FF & G cups are getting much more normal now. La Senza does some 32F's too.

doggiesayswoof · 18/11/2008 16:33

M&S always measure wrong.

EffiePerine · 18/11/2008 16:34

Another 32F (ish) here, now gawd knows thanks to pregnancy. 32F is a good size, means you have a nice narrow torso - the F is only teh size of your norks in relation to your back size, if you were broader you might be a D cup.

Neeerly3 · 18/11/2008 16:34

i used to be a 32C, went to independent place and came out a 32E, been in wrong size for years.

Now pregs and went to M&S and came out with 2x 34F nursing bra's...not sure whether to trust them, they do seem to fit, but can't afford bravissimo prices currently!

PortAndLemon · 18/11/2008 16:36

There's not much difference in terms of overall bust size between 32F and 34DD. 32F just means that the rest of you is slinkier than if 34DD was your real size.

I think M&S bra policies are one main reason that so many women wear the wrong size.

Lizzzombie · 18/11/2008 16:37

M&S here

  • Nicer ones instore though.

La Senza here

Remember though, not ever bra suits every woman.
e.g. unfortunately our boobs get saggier as we get older and have kids, so we won't fill all of the fab groovy ones which sixteen yearolds can get away with iykwim.

LilRedWG · 18/11/2008 16:38

I went from 36A to 32D at the grand old age of 34. I was great to have a bra that finally fitted.

Lizzzombie · 18/11/2008 16:38

ooooh - what are M&S bra policies? Do you know?

I have so many women in, pregnant and nursing who have been fitted completely incorrectly by them, it never fails to astonish me.

Neeerly3 · 18/11/2008 16:39

does anyone know the RULES for bra sizing? no one seems to 'measure' anymore, they ask what size you currently wear, have a look, then go out and fetch the size they THINK you are and then you go from there.....i would like to know once and for all what size i am to go buy my bras online.....

Lizzylou · 18/11/2008 16:42

Would love to be 32" around the back,

Really need to get properly measured, am sure mine are wrong (and need lots more support!).

Tell your friend to naff off, she's just jealous!

PortAndLemon · 18/11/2008 16:46

I don't have any insider information, no. But they seem to consistently fit people incorrectly, and their stock in cup sizes over DD tends to be very limited (in branches near me, anyway). If women react to that kind of subliminal presentation by thinking of DD as unusually large then they are less likely to wind up in the right size, I think.

By "M&S bra policies" I just meant "whatever policies M&S have that lead them to implement this strange fitting and stock policy".

nailpolish · 18/11/2008 16:47

your friend is very jealous
