Skin under my eyes has gone all dry and flaky - any good creams, or tips?

Not eczema or anything, just localised dry skin which makes my Touche Eclat really obvious and horrible looking. Also my lines are looking bad and the concealer gathers in them too.

Am 37, quite dark circles, bags only when tired (hmm, most of the time then)

Need an urgent solution!

Oooh I'd like to know that too. Just recently the skin under my eyes has gone really dry too, unusal for me. I've not been crying or rubbing my eyes but it is very sore. I've been using the Waitrose Baby Bottom Butter - it's like vanilla vaseline, but it's a bit 'heavy'.

wonderwoman73 · 12/11/2008 19:49

I've tried loads of under eye creams and my fav is bodyshop unperfumed elderflower eye gel. It's better than all the much pricier ones I've tried.

franch · 13/11/2008 00:59

I've tried that before ww73 - very light though, don't think any gel is moisturising enough for the way my skin is just now

Might try the waitrose stuff - do you think if does any good AC? Or is the vaseline better?

I had this happen when pregnant with DS2, wasn't eczema, just hormonal. Anyway, I am really sorry that I can't remember the name of the stuff but you can buy an ointment from chemist (I got it at Boots), it's over the counter, not expensive & is in a tube. Being suitable for preg might narrow it down if you go in & ask. Sorry I can't remember the name, pretty sure that it was a white ointment tube with blue writing. And it's a chemist product rather than a beauty product if that helps. It did the trick, I do remember that!

sparklestickchick · 13/11/2008 07:35

i have this and bought superdrugs own eye cream for £1.79 yesterday - seems better this morning

franch · 13/11/2008 11:30

Thanks cloudy - is it specifically an eye cream I should ask for?

Superdrug's creams don't seem to agree with my skin sparkle

No, it's not that severe marmaduke. And no redness or itching. Have used TE for many years without problems. Probably just my age!

SilentTerror · 13/11/2008 12:07

Me too, exactly the same.Dry flaky skin around one eye in particular.
Have used Witrose baby butter but too strong I think, eye all puffy! Also vaseline and E45 cream. No good either.
Makes me look old and crepey.
Will try Superdrug later.
Agree,concealer makes it worse.

franch · 13/11/2008 12:08

Crepey, that's the word!

OP posts:
SilentTerror · 13/11/2008 12:14

And makeup makes it look worse!

claireyBANG · 13/11/2008 12:23

Vaseline or Marula/Almond oil at night (lots of it so you feel really greasy!),normal cream by day. Usually sorts me out in 2-3 days

franch · 13/11/2008 12:59

Now that's a great tip clairey, thanks

It was an eye ointment, I am so sorry I just can't remember what it was called. It is a chemist product rather than a beauty product. It does sound like you're experiencing what I did, skin just under eyes suddenly became dry & flaky. I tried everything & only thing that would work was this eye ointment.

claireyBANG · 13/11/2008 14:50

Ah well you once gave me a great tip for managing dd's hair

Cammelia · 13/11/2008 14:54

Someone I know got dry flaky skin under her eyes from using superdrug ey makeup remover.

this has happened to me in the past when i have used something new but only after a few weeks so wasnt immediatly obvious. also your touche eclat may be off!! this can cause dry skin

sheffmummy · 13/11/2008 15:11

Theres something called 'simple eye ointment' you can get from the chemist, like a lighter form of vaseline...that might help. (It's not the brand Simple, its just a bland ointment if you see what I mean!)

Sunshinemummy · 13/11/2008 15:14

This happens to me occasionally and I use Dr Haushka Eye Contour Day Balm. It's not cheap but lasts for ages as you only need a tiny bit and really works. I get it from Space NK.

franch · 13/11/2008 16:03

Ooh great clairey, another Elasta convert! Will def try what you suggest and/or some vit E oil (smallwhite's testimonial is compelling)

Will also look out for the simple eye ointment - maybe that's what you were thinking of cloudy?

Cammelia & ELR - I do use s'drug eye makeup remover! And have been using an old tube of touche eclat! Will eliminate both.

If all else fails I'll splash out on Dr Haushka.

Thanks all

I used some Vitamin E cream on a scar I had a few years ago from some stitches (showing off my underwater swimming technique I managed to swim right into the pool steps and cut the bridge of my nose open. DP was horrified when I emerged from the water covered in blood!). It completly got rid of the scar - it was amazing, so the oil is definitely worth a try.

cloudydaze · 13/11/2008 16:27

Yes, that's the stuff I was talking about, Simple eye ointment!!! Thanks sheffmummy, it's been bugging me!!

franch · 13/11/2008 19:30

eek sounds awful sunshine - but vit E is good, isn't it? Think I've got some oil somewhere

OP posts:
cloudydaze · 13/11/2008 22:44

You can also buy vitamin E gel capsules & open them up as you need to, easier to obtain than a bottle of the oil.
