WWW's 10 years younger boot-and-slipper camp: onwards and upwards

Seems that it falls to me to start a new thread - sorry you can't join us at the moment, WWW but we'll try to stick to the principles, namely:-

The rules (anyone can join):

  • Sunscreen at all times;
  • No or little booze - it's allowed at the weekend if you want it;
  • Walking is important, a small amount every day if possible, 30 mins if you can;
  • Lots of water, aim for 2 litres a day;
  • Apply body cream as often as possible;
  • Use hand cream;
  • Go to bed early, by 10.30pm if poss;
  • Eat healthily;
  • Be happy.

The idea is that we all feel happier, healthier and glow with the good food, sleep, exercise, water and lack of sun damage.

Some people are doing India and Neris's Idiot Proof Diet (Atkins, more or less), others are doing Slimy World, others are just being as healthy as possible.

Welcome everyone, have a good week.

Thanks for the thread Eemie - I am not great at posting (or indeed bootcamping!) but I do like to keep reading of others' tales of healthy living and overindulgence.

Hope you are all well and will have a good week. Hope the move went OK, L and S, and that you start to feel settled in your new pad soon.

Back tomorrow - my last week at work.

VanessaParody · 10/11/2008 10:10

thanks for thread eemie. sharpe & ironing all last night & now have baby on shoulder, more later.

Cammelia · 10/11/2008 10:40

Thanks so much for starting this new thread eemie

Have spent the whole weekend helping dd revise as its now her school internal exam week. Today she has Maths, Latin and History.

Yesterday evening she did get some light relief as she had to go a play rehearsal for the school end of term play.

There are lots of interesting snacks in the house at the moment, necessary for keeping dd happy during revision and exam mode.

Apart from a Belgian chocolate choc ice I have managed to leave them alone and will be doing aerobics today to make up for lots of sitting around over the w/e

yoyo · 10/11/2008 20:14

I am so tired at the moment that I am finding I have no resistance to stuff I really should not be eating or drinkling. Think it is the weather and darker nights and a general lethargy. I look forward to bed with an enthusiasm that does not reveal itself at any other time of day. In fact I would happily collect the children from school and turn in. DH is a night owl and as a result I battle through until very late and usually fall asleep on the sofa mid-sentence. And so the cycle continues..

Busy week ahead with many extra activities to ferry the DC to and from.

Would shelve all attempts at obeying camp rules if it were not for the ever tightening waistband. Birthday soon and I will be the heaviest I have been in a very long time.

Moan, moan, moan. Apologies all.

ClaudiaSchiffer · 10/11/2008 21:05

ugh, have worlds worst cold. Full of snot and painful 'productive' [shudder] cough. Have managed to give it to dd2 who is currently sneezing copious amount so snot over the house. Also feel feverish and all I want to eat is dd1's jelly snakes. So far have managed to resist the lure but I can feel my resolve weakening.

I have my parents coming to visit for a month on Friday, so am trying to keep/get the house clean in their honour. Bloody difficult with children who just don't understand the concept of tidying up.

However, I am thoroughly moisturised, am avoiding booze as it makes me feel worse, and trying to eat healthily.

L & S was the move ok? Yoyo I understand perfectly your feelings about bedtime. The sigh of relief that I involuntarily utter as I slide between the sheets is that of an old and knackered lady.

eemie · 10/11/2008 21:56

I'm another one struggling to stay up until grown-up o'clock. But then wake up fretting in small hours, so no overall gain in terms of serenity, loveliness, looking 10yy etc.

Sorry to hear about snot, CS.

Great name, VP.

Come in L&S, we're waiting to hear from you. Hope it went as well as could be expected.

Agent has left message that there's another offer on our house but it's 'a bit low' . Have to wait till tomorrow to discover just how low is too low

OP posts:
LoveAndSqualor · 11/11/2008 08:11

Good morning! Well, I am all moved in; cots built, clothes unpacked, pictures as yet unhung, but who cares? The most important thing is that as of about 20 minutes ago I am back online!

Weekend was gruelling as all hell - wouldn't go through saying goodbye yesterday morning for any money . But it's over, and Dsis and DBIL have been wonderful, and DS seems to be untraumatised, and I did a LOT of knitting last night . Can't stay on now as DS is yelling, but will come back on later. Eemie, thanks so much for starting thread - keep us posted on low offer ... Yoyo, totally with you on bedtime; DS still has a dream feed at 11 and I hate waiting up for it. Claudia, bad luck on the cold!

Saggarmakersbottomknocker · 11/11/2008 10:41

L&S good to hear you are post-move. CS sorry about the cold. I'm living in the House of Ill Health at the moment; ds1 has stomach bug and a bad cold, dh has ManFlu, ds2 has TeenFlu (this is like ManFlu but not quite so well-developed). If I get to the end of the week in one piece it will be a miracle, taking industrial strength vitamins, echinacea and vit c to ward it off. dd has had the flu jab so fingers crossed she'll fight it off too.

VersdeSociete · 11/11/2008 10:49

Hello, all. Been waylaid by everyone having d + v bugs and completely out of touch. well done on move L and S. Wassup with www?
Tried that juice diet recommended on another thread but it made me feel like shite. Will try to read old threads...

VersdeSociete · 11/11/2008 10:52

Sorry everyone else is so poorly too. I think there is a dead mouse under the floorboards in my "study" (the back living room / junk room). Odour is quite appetite - suppressant anyhow...

Saggarmakersbottomknocker · 11/11/2008 20:54

Bleurgh @ dead mouse VS.

VanessaParody · 11/11/2008 21:24

Fast work L&S! Glad you're in and DS has a cot, if not pictures to look at yet. All in good time eh?!

chutney - last week!!! Are your colleagues likely to spoil you?

Impressed at Cams restraint in the face of a snack-laden household.

yoyo - I think you should make going to bed by 10.30pm your top bootcamp priority. Lack of sleep has a huge effect on everything else. Late nights are definitely my worst bootcamp discipline even though I know I feel so much better for 8 hours sleep.

Sympathies to claudia & saggars.

What news of $$$$ eemie?

Urgh at VSs smelly dead mouse!

I have a bad cold too. My lungs are full of yeurgh and each cough makes my back hurt. So not much exercise here. I'm just off to boil my head have a steam.

Diet has consisted of hot honey & lemon, soup, bread, Strepsils and codeine. Though not all at once.

Moisturising everything including Neals Yard Baby Balm on the big red sore bit around my nose.

Oh, and I slipped over and landed very heavily on my hip on Monday lunchtime. It hurts loads but there isn't a bruise. Yet.

I'm hoping the week ends better than it began.

eemie · 12/11/2008 14:08

Good morning - lovely and sunny here, walked 3 miles this morning don't mind winter when it's like this. Puppy only moderately naughty, dd angelic, dh emptied the dishwasher, so I'm cheerful.

The offer on the house is more than £20,000 less than the one that fell through a few weeks ago. They're in a chain as well, so three other sales would have to complete before us. So can't afford to get excited.

Choir tonight, though. Good for mental health.

OP posts:
eemie · 13/11/2008 20:46

DOn't tell me I've killed the thread. I promise not to mention the house sale again unless it completes. Promise promise promise. Come back everyone

OP posts:
eemie · 14/11/2008 00:11

Where is everyone?

Have you gone off and started a secret thread that I'm not allowed on?

Or is everyone just too ill/stressed/non-adherent to bootcamp ideals to face posting any more?

Or am I just catastrophising?

Someone come and tell me, please...

OP posts:
Saggarmakersbottomknocker · 14/11/2008 08:04

I thought I posted here last night eemie. Must have dreamt it

Still illness galore in my house. I've managed to stay off the booze for over a week now though.

Hope choir was relaxing. I'd love to be able to sing.....sadly am tone deaf and only suitable for the X-factor out takes!

VanessaParody · 14/11/2008 13:57

I'm still here, but only just. Too ill to bootcamp. I'm surviving on a diet of soup and hot blackcurrant. My lungs hurt.

VanessaParody · 16/11/2008 01:19

I'm still ill. Which is putting me off my water. Everything else reasonably good. Except the early night.

eemie · 16/11/2008 12:42

Sorry to hear everyone's still poorly. Hope there'll be some company along soon, even if only looking for sympathy.

I had an unusually good Friday - stayed at home, took dog to woods, pottered about doing stuff in house, had women friends to dinner while dh went out and played badminton. Felt as if I'd been on holiday. Puppy now civilised enough to join in the company without jumping all over everyone.

Then yesterday, rehearsal and concert - Josquin, Palestrina, Verdi, Poulenc - wonderful. New babysitter a great hit with dd and puppy.

Catch-up day today - on third load of washing. Doing belated change of address forms.

Lots of fruit in house so will juice & make salad this pm to get week off to healthy start.

Shall we keep this thread or does someone want to start a new one for luck?

OP posts:
LoveAndSqualor · 16/11/2008 14:41

Right! I have been useless and very absent - first week of living with Dsis, which has inevitably taken a lot of adjustment for us all, but all in good spirit. A sad and stressful time but at least we've made the move now and things will hopefully start improving. Bootcampwise it's been a disaster - food and booze totally haywire - but as usual I've been walking and whatnot and even bodybrushing now and then, so some things are ok. DS has finally dropped his nightfeed, too [relief] so now I can go to bed at 10 and usually make it through to 5.30 at the earliest - nearly 8 hours! Feel almost human again ...

Sorry to see things are quiet on here. Come back everyone! And WWW ,hope all is ok in RL, and that you're peering in, if not posting ...

VanessaParody · 16/11/2008 20:37

I think we may as well keep this thread for another week because it's deserted.

eemie - your Friday sounds idyllic. Concert sounds good too.

l&s - hurrah for 8 hours sleep. It makes a HUGE difference doesn't it? Keep those good spirits up (but easy on the wine).

Skipped breakfast but had lots of raw veg mid-morning whilst preparing lunch, which was roast pork with everything. Sunday afternoon tea consisted of salads, quail eggs (v. WWW), cheese & ham.

I've been drinking fruit tea in a bid to keep my voice working. Fruit tea is always such a disappointment, it smells heavenly but tastes of nothing.

I intend to watch Spooks and go to bed. Everything is ready for tomorrow and I don't have any work that needs doing urgently, so no excuses.

ClaudiaSchiffer · 16/11/2008 22:44

Hello all, the doc put me on anti-biotics as have chest infection - Goodness the things I was coughing up! Feeling much better now though. I hope everyone elses' germs are abating. Am off to the doc again today tho, honestly, I seem to be going at least once a week these days, as dd2 (aged 1) is still ill, and has been ill for months - coughs, colds etc What worries me is that she has hardly eaten anything for months and is tiny. Poor little mite.

The other ghastliness in my life at the moment is the visit by my lovely parents. They are here for a month and already DH is loudly suffering from in-law allergy. Really, it is awful, I feel completely stressed. The kids love having their grandparents here, and I adore seeing my folks but for dh it is a living nightmare and I don't know what to do about it.

Anyway enough of my whinges, bootcamping going ok, haven't been exercising much as have beenn ill - just taken the dog for a lovely walk tho. Eating and general maintenance has been goodish, but wine consumption has rocketed due to family stress.

eemie good luck with the house sale, can you afford to drop 20K? Saggers I am with you, would love to be able to sing, I totally enjoy it but my voice is quite, quite horrible.

L & S well done on the move, the sleeping and the settling in to a new life. It must have been very difficult for you, how sad. I am very sorry.

VanessaParody, yummy food. Are you feeling better?

Must go now and rescue my dad from being bossed around by my 3 yr old.

eemie · 17/11/2008 18:21

Welcome back sufferers. This thread is getting more like a ward round every minute . Hope we're all building up lots of immunity to see us through rest of winter.

Dreadful start to week - heavy day with back-to-back horribleness at work. No water, no lunch, no respite. Still, not every day is like that & I'm home already.

Took puppy on the school walk this morning and she was good nearly all the way. Showed me up at puppy bootcamp yesterday - I was wailing about how naughty she is, the instructor sympathised, then she behaved like an angel & made me look like a wittering neurotic.

Offer confirmed on house - they went up £10k. Not good but it's not as though we have other offers to choose from. I'm v. reluctant to let - don't think I could cope with the added stress and uncertainty. So fingers crossed.

Off to cook healthy meal. Get well soon everyone.

OP posts:
VanessaParody · 18/11/2008 23:05

eemie - boo to horrid day at work. Sorry the house offer is so low. Can't be much fun trying to sell at the moment.

claudia - sympathies on the illness. I have chest infection too but haven't had time to get any ABs. I hope you got some help with your DD at the Drs today - that's a lot of illness for a teeny one. Bigger sympathies on parents staying!

www is often reading thread but not posting atm. She sends her love.

I walked the dog on the forest today for a couple of miles. The bracing air really made my throat burn. I'm still feeling crap.

Have eaten toast, chicken soup and then (because DH is in town and because they cost £5 at Lidl) I had lobster for dinner. With a vast mixed green salad from farmers market.

Not drinking nearly enough water but will force another glass down before I go to bed. And I didnt' have time to light the fires today so it's freezing cold. So I'm going to bed early(ish).

eemie · 19/11/2008 19:38

Lobster has got to be good for you VP.

Got another offer on house today - wouldn't you just know it? Can't accept but can ask them to wait in wings, as it were. Prospective buyers have committed to 28-day exchange so we'll see.

I'm going down with cold - and I'm not even on holiday! What is wrong with us all on this thread?

Get well soon everyone
