Where do women in their 30s buy fashionable clothes for nights out?

I like all the stuff in top shop etc but I just don't want to bare so much skin and i have post-baby lumps and bumps that need disguising.
I'm specifically looking for christmas night out clothes.

Where do women in their 30s buy fashionable clothes for nights out?

Thanks

I find it hard to find fashionable/edgy things that aren't too short or too skimpy in the arms.
I'm 38 and think i look pretty ok for my age. But I want to look like a 30-something not a mutton-er.
Can be hard on the British High street.

Jane Norman, Monsoon, Red Herring and other Debenham's designers, Zara, New Look, Next, small couture shops.

Dragonbutter · 11/11/2008 17:48

in plymouth?

Yeah must agree about couture shops in Plymouth! There are none that I can remember!

Dragonbutter · 11/11/2008 19:24

normally have a nose in debenhams

never ever look in m and s or bhs

myermay · 11/11/2008 20:14

i'm 30 and i shop in topshop, oasis, warehouse, miss selfridge, dp's, therapy (house of fraser), river island. i often walk past places like principles, wallis and wonder what sort of age i'll be when i start liking those clothes, but they just seem too middle aged for me!

Hogiabach · 11/11/2008 20:19

I love Diesel, but am also loving Jigsaw, Joseph and Whistles atm....

PavlovtheCat · 11/11/2008 20:21

LOL Dragon - Have you not heard of Westward Bound? .

Although, there is a little shop near GHQ that does some nice clothes...you know by Cafe Rouge. Can't remember what it is called. Oh and in Exeter, there is a little side street that takes you down from Fore street to the cathedral and there is a lovely little shop there, pricey but has sales on from time to time, again can't remember the name of the place.

I shop in London for clothes. I say shop. I shopped in London. Before I stopped frequenting the place!

PavlovtheCat · 11/11/2008 20:22

Oh and I picked up a really nice pair of jeans in Chagford once...

I rarely shop in Plymouth. I can't bear Primarni!

Dragonbutter · 11/11/2008 20:27

oh ok. thought maybe i missed some fabulous shopping district in plymouth.
i think i got my wedding ring from polka in the same street in exeter so i think i know the shop you mean.

maybe it's trying to shop in plymouth that is really the problem. although exeter is very 'high street' too.

warehouse, laura ashley, phase 8, principles, oasis, uttam, hobbs, coast, mango

PavlovtheCat · 11/11/2008 20:31

Ghandi Street, Exeter - there are two FAB shops there, maybe three, one sells diesel jeans that actually fit me! And the other does own design stuff. I recall trying on a dress in one, worth about £500, I was pissed, after a lunch of beer at the Art Centre and could not get it back off again! Was a tad embarrassing. I was a lot younger then...

PavlovtheCat · 11/11/2008 20:34

Dragon - Polka - I have heard of that...the shop I am talking about is on the right as you walk towards cathedral.

LOL at the thought of a fabulous shopping district in Plymouth! They so missed the opportunity to develop one here. How can you have a shopping centre with like 10 shops?!! All there is Moda in Pelle now. Dangerous to walk past.

BoysAreLikeDogs · 11/11/2008 20:34

If you are so inclined then charity shops in more affluent areas can offer rich pickings.

eg Monmouth/Westbury-on-Trym for those of us in the South West.

Have had some rather fabulous finds.

PavlovtheCat · 11/11/2008 20:41

Boys - I charity shopped in Rochester - got some lovely stuff there including a fantastic full length kaftan style coat (is that what its called, suede with fur around the edges and cuffs) from Next for £10, saw it still in next a week later for £90!!! Bargain!

In Plymouth, Charity shops are mostly pants, although I got a Next tailored black pinstripe trouser suit, almost identical to the one I bought earlier in the year for £150, I got this one for £10 also, all that was wrong was that the seam on one leg was undone, easily sorted.

princessmel · 11/11/2008 20:56

New Look, Dorothy Perkins, Jane Norman, anywhere really!

I love River Island and Topshop too.

BoysAreLikeDogs · 11/11/2008 20:59

oooh I like the sound of Rochester, Pavlov

PavlovtheCat · 11/11/2008 21:17

Boys - alas it is probably not worth driving to just for the charity shops...I happened to already be there visiting!

Lukesmammy · 11/11/2008 21:56

river island, warehouse and dotty p's

Dragonbrandybutter · 30/12/2008 17:44

Hey pav, i've found a couple of shops recently. one is called Fab in totnes which has nice stuff and also there's a new one on the barbican called spoilt, which has some nice stuff too.
