I like all the stuff in top shop etc but I just don't want to bare so much skin and i have post-baby lumps and bumps that need disguising.
I'm specifically looking for christmas night out clothes.

Where do women in their 30s buy fashionable clothes for nights out?

Thanks

Ronaldinhio · 09/11/2008 23:02

whistles
zara
reiss
all saints

suwoo · 09/11/2008 23:06

Wouldn't shop in next if my life depened on it. My best mate who is 35 shops in All Saints but she has always been 'edgy', not for everyone.

Ronaldinhio · 09/11/2008 23:07

also some limited collection or autograph m&S

gigglewitch · 09/11/2008 23:08

like everyone else
Oasis
Monsoon
Warehouse
Debenhams.

gone off Next. used to like it but don't now.

LetThemEatCake · 09/11/2008 23:08

I bought a v.expensive Chloe dress (v.expensive even though very reduced) recently and plan to wear it for the next 10 years. So it had better okay for 40-somethings to wear that sort of thing. And I had better look after my legs.

No, would never shop in Next. A bit of Zara and Karen Millen is sometimes good though

Ronaldinhio · 09/11/2008 23:10

karen millen is a bit footballers wives for me

i'm taken aback by the sparkly windows

lots of my frineds swear by it though

Dragonbutter · 09/11/2008 23:45

gosh are you lot still up?
thanks

i like urban outfitters- their online sale is always brilliant.

My2Monkeys · 10/11/2008 09:33

Same as everyone! Coast, Warehouse, Topshop, Phase Eight for posh weddings etc, occasionally Monsoon. And I can hardly believe it myself, but recently I've found several things in Laura Ashley They seem to have moved on from the flowery "50s housewife" stuff and become more edgy (or else it's me turning middle aged). I got a top there in the summer that absolutely everyone commented on. They're pretty good at semi-revealing things, when you want to look sexy but need to hide lumps/bumps/untoned shoulders etc

puppydavies · 10/11/2008 09:48

woah all saints is a bit hit and miss isn't it. the tailoring is mostly gorgeous and i've fallen head over heels for this dress but ffs i've never seen uglier jeans than this in my life

anyfucker · 10/11/2008 11:53

god, those jeans are awful

I think All Saints is a bit too "trying hard" to be trendy once you are past 25. And £££ too! Karen Millen very £££ too.

I hate Next and Per Una, far too twee.

Try a dept store such as Selfridges, where there are lots of outlets such as the ones named above.

principles have some fab party wear in at the moment.

tiredsville · 10/11/2008 18:20

Wharehouse/Topshop/Karen Millen/Reiss love Kookai for the tops.

tiredsville · 10/11/2008 18:21

I like Mango too.

widgypog · 10/11/2008 18:30

I am 33..v nearly 34!! I wear mostly Topshop(very sparingly) Oasis , Warehouse. Ted Baker and Diesel. Jane Norman is overpriced polyester shite..sorry if anyone likes it but it is so cheap looking and on a par with oasis for pricing which is far superior in quality and style.
I think the key for 30's dressing is not to go with fashion per se but to dress what suits your style. I think getting it wrong can age you terribly..good luck

Jewelsandgems · 10/11/2008 19:14

Ted Baker are always great for quality and fit.

Oasis are good for pretty things and jeans

Warehouse always something good

Buy lots in Zara - they always seem very good at taking from the catwalk, as opposed to Next who seem to take trends from other shops, way too late.

Hate Jane Normal - any naked flame and the lot if it would go up in smoke

Topshop are great.

Karen Millen great for evening/cocktail dresses - rest, I agree can be WAGish.

All Saints is just awful on anyone over 20. When I look at their website I just think 'ugly'.

puppydavies · 10/11/2008 20:02

i hadn't heard of all saints before, but it all looks pretty grown up to me - i'm struggling to imagine the 20 year old with either the budget or the occasion to wear most of the stuff on the website.

i think there are many dramatic, high fashion type looks that need a degree of confidence and panache to carry off that the vast majority of 20 year olds simply don't have. mid-30s should be your style peak, not when you give up and disappear in next and (sorry!) per una.

wonderwoman73 · 10/11/2008 20:11

Whistles has some lovely things in this season (it's the first collection since the TopShop lady took over) and Boden's good sometimes

GetOrfMoiLand · 10/11/2008 20:22

Well, I like All Saints and don't think I am too old at 30 to wear it. Their stuff is very well cut and feels more expensive than it is. Read somewhere that All Saints is the high street equivalent of Vivienne Westwood (similar cut, use of material etc).

NO GOD NO to Jane Norman. Hideous clothes for girls with too much fake tan and too little brain cells.

Favourites French Connection, LK Bennett, Karen Millen (but sometimes too expensive), some of the concessions in House of Fraser. Kookai a bit mixed, ban look horribly cheap and nasty but there are some really nice items there as well. Ditto Topshop.

I like Reiss but mainly for day clothes.

Have a personal hatred and loathing of Monsoon (it's that ageing hippy/home counties arundhati roy look)

Liffey · 10/11/2008 20:23

Dragonbutter, that jumpsuit is laughoutloud shit. WHO would buy that? I suppose you ahve to be 23 to get it

kalo12 · 10/11/2008 20:26

firetrap

Dragonbutter · 11/11/2008 00:21

i don't like firetrap because my mind sees anagrams. it makes me very good at countdown and scrabble but for firetrap i read ripefart.
odd i know.
