I've always hated animal print, especially on a woman over fifty, picture it bingo wings with the leopard blouse.

I needed a new dress for a rare girls (below 50 yrs old but on the wrong side of 45) night out. Tried on a lovely (Gracia recommended) party dress. The body looked good but the face, OK 10-15 years ago I would have bought it. Bought a classy leopard print shift dress, sleeveless, bit more above the knee than I would prefer but with the black tights, high boots and hoops (in ears for a contempary look) I reckon I can pull it off.
It looks classy but then I will end up in a club full of 20 year olds. I could have gone for the tight trouser, black vest and accessories and blended in but I want to look my age (47) but not frumpy.

impossible judge without pic of dress imo

witcheseve · 24/10/2008 23:36

I don't know how to do links. Its from Oasis so not cheap, basically just a shift, nice neck detail. I really need to learn to do links. I'm a size 10 so it cannot look offensive, right?

It's so hard at my age.

this?

witcheseve · 24/10/2008 23:52

Yes, that is the one thank you secondcoming. How do I do that. OK 47 year old bag women. Is it OK? I'm wearing it with high black boots and hoop earrings.

i think animal print should be left as accessories rather than the main outfit really, on any age

SecondComing · 24/10/2008 23:56

Not sure about the hooped earrings. But I think the dress will look fine, great in fact.
When you want to do a link look to the right of the message entry box >>>>>>>

i don't think so no.
bet lynch
sorry.

witcheseve · 24/10/2008 23:57

Thanks, Stay, love the bangle, will look for one of those tomorrow. As you say Lou, it doesn't need much but a brown bangle is just right.

Dragon, I'm so not bet lynch but I know what you mean. That's the impression I've always got from animal print too. Until I tried this on.

sorry i meant i think animal print on such a large area looks too much, and is best kept to smaller items such as scarves, bags etc

didnt mean to confuse you

If I were to accessorise I'd go for a black large bead style bangle.
Like this but in plain black. Or something really plain like this

S1ur · 25/10/2008 00:03

tis not a great look imo.

go classic, much easier to be bold and striking with a v good cut and colour. but I just don't like animal print so am bias.

witcheseve · 25/10/2008 00:04

No confusion Lou, I agree minimul accessories needed but a nice bangle will look good.

Oh I like Style and Beauty thread now. Some great advice.

I think keep everything else simple and understated to avoid barmaid look

so simple black opaques, neutral makeup, black heels

lou33 · 25/10/2008 00:06

but as far as animal print dresses go, it's one of the nicer ones, i do like very simple lines , and with busy prints i think it needs to be a v clean style , so to speak

SecondComing · 25/10/2008 00:08

Agree with ggirl. Make everything else as subtle as possible. All black, with very little make-up, a touch of clear gloss and some mascara. Hair not in too much of a 'style' (i.e. don't overdo it with tons of ringlets in a french twist)

witcheseve · 25/10/2008 00:09

I was the same Lou, but since I hit 45, and I know you are a little off this, I've started to go for patterns. OH NO, I've become a cliche. OK if I don't or do pull tomorrow night I will report back!. It's OK I'm single.

brimfull · 25/10/2008 00:11

2ndcoming-yes the hair needs to be glossy and almost casual.

witcheseve · 25/10/2008 00:14

Its in a bob atm. Loving this Style and Beauty thread don't often indulge but I need a bit of cheering up atm. ROOOAAAR (big cat grin).
