Dry lips?

TheDevilWearsPrimark · 17/10/2008 13:35

I always get this when winter starts and it drives me mad.

I use burt bees at night and wear benefits lip tint in the day but after a while out of the house my lips feel so dry.

Are there any better lip colours I could be using, or a better moisturiser?

cherry chapstick

Tiamummy · 17/10/2008 13:36

Just using nivea works for me

MadreInglese · 17/10/2008 13:36

I'll watch this with interest DWP as I have the same problem when it gets colder

bundle · 17/10/2008 13:36

you need blisteze, maybe called blistex now - brilliant for hydrating properly and fab for coldsores. put on then apply lippy with brush

andiem · 17/10/2008 13:37

blisteze it is a cream and much better than anything vaseline based

Try lipbalm over or under a lip gloss? Is your lip tint quite drying or more of a greasy/moisturising consistency?

The only trouble I find with lipgloss is when it is windy my hair can end up sticking to my lips!

youknownothingofthecrunch · 17/10/2008 13:38

Ooh, will blisteze last all day then?

andiem · 17/10/2008 13:38

lasts a long time I usually reapply once in the day

bundle · 17/10/2008 13:40

depends how much kissin/drinkin/chewin lips youdo

it's medicated and just bliss on sore lips, even if you get splits when v dry

RubySlippers · 17/10/2008 13:41

brush your lips with an old toothbrush and TBH, vaseline is the best IME

bundle · 17/10/2008 13:41

vaseline just a barrier though won't do anything re: underlying dryness

TheDevilWearsPrimark · 17/10/2008 13:43

Ruby I have a lip exfoliator which seems to help.

maybe it's the lip tint, although lipstick nd glosses seem to do the same thing.

I'll try the blistex thaks.

Nivea creme- the old blue tubs. I suffer with dry lips, and this really has been the best thing. I have beautiful soft lips now!
Vaseline is great for chapped skin (toddlers!) I find.

lumpsdumps · 17/10/2008 16:39

I agree about the blue pot of nivea, works fantastic

samsonara · 17/10/2008 16:40

I use this, its great
Ren Lip Honey

reikimarie · 18/10/2008 18:31

At the end of the day good old Vaseline is the best! Believe it or not.

BecauseImAWitch · 18/10/2008 18:32

Drink more water. When it starts to get cold, and heating systems go on, the air gets much drier.

cheekysealion · 18/10/2008 18:33

palmer coco butter for lips with dark choc and peppermint- >>>> heaven

triffictits · 18/10/2008 19:46

I read somewhere that vaseline makes your lips drier - the more you use the more they dry out.

I use Clarins lip balm - a bit priey but after trying everything it is the only one that constantly works - its lovely as a lip gloss too!

foofi · 18/10/2008 20:04

Have used nothing but Blisteze (think it might be Blistex now) for about 25 years

TheRealMrsJohnSimm · 18/10/2008 20:31

Try L'Occitane Shea Butter. Sold in HUGE pots and is fab for dry lips, dry skin anywhere on body and even dry and damaged hair

I also use Badger Balm. Tis lovely and uses vegetable based oils rather than Vaseline which is by-product of petrol industry......yum.....not.

southeastastra · 18/10/2008 20:34

nothing works, just let it heal itself

Clarins is good and shiny but quite sticky so can't use it when DH is around.

Clinique is very good but doesn't last long so have to keep on re-applying it.

L'Occitane do a honey honey, very sicky and shiny but quite good.

Like the Palmers Cocoa butter that comes in a stick (DH loves it as well). Not too sticky or shiny and lasts a long time.

Bought the one from REN a few days ago and just shiny enough and very moisturising and long lasting.

Origins didn't like: feels hard and difficult to put on, makes my lips go white.

Lush do various ones:
honey trap and lip service very moisturising and no need to constantly re-apply as the tins are not practical. You have to use your fingers. they go on a bit white but melt really quickly. lip lime lasts the whole of 5 seconds.

didn't like the aromatherapy associates for the same reason (comes in a pot) but very moisturising.

Eve Lom comes in a pot as well but is very shiny. smells nice but tastes funny.

Molton Brown used to do a great one (not too shiny/sticky and long lasting) in a tube but can only get that in long haul flights).

I'm sure i've tried MAC before but can't remember anything specific about it.

temple spa was probably my favourite one!

vaseline is not too bad but boring!

Neutogena is ok but not great.

find nivea and blistex useless.

Have my eye on dr hauschka and ole henriksen next!

Yes I'm addicted to expensive lip balms but they're my only treats!

iloverosycheeks · 20/10/2008 11:58

carmex all the way for me - I can't be without it!
