DD is 16 months old and needs a wintery and lovely warm coat for playing out at nursery

Need something practical and washable, waterproof and warm. I was quite taken with a blue swing style one in M & S here
but wool, therefore not washable so a pretty unwise choice.

I would never buy myself a padded coat with fur round the collar so unsure about
and its white!

kinda like this one but its sooo pink!

Wondered about this but is it too puffy?

Anyone got any more ideas?

boden
A991 code takes a tenner off the price

macherie · 04/10/2008 17:55

Agree with the boden one, got the boys version and it is toasty warm, lightweight and washable!

Tobermory · 04/10/2008 18:39

I remember looking at that before and thinking it looked 'thin', am I wrong is it really toasty warm?

mine have last year's version of this which doesn't have the fur trim, got them in the sale last winter, very snuggly

TheBlonde · 04/10/2008 18:48

I don't have it - thinking about buying it unless I find something instore tomorrow
I am in the South though so if you are up North you may want something warmer

Wheelybug · 04/10/2008 18:52

dd has had the boden the one duckyfuzz linked to two years in a row and its great. Washes and tumble dries v. well and v. warm (also sleeves and hood zip off so cna be used in autumn and spring).
Not sure about the fur hoods though this year.

Tobermory · 04/10/2008 19:15

theblonde, yes am up north and thats what i was thinking.

duckyfuzz, have looked at that one too, purple one is out of stock which removes it from the list of possibles!

www.next.co.uk/shot.asp?b=X42&p=536&s=4&n=Children&pid=397-454&exclude=00M00 dd had last year's prettier version very toasty.

wonderstuff · 04/10/2008 20:50

I love the M&S one. In fact I opened the thread thinking 'i'll put on a link to the blue M&S coat' but you already have it!! Much nicer than the puffy ones. I got DD (11mo) a fab little mamas and papas one for about £15 on ebay a couple of weeks ago, might be worth a look

Tobermory · 04/10/2008 22:06

wonderstuff, lovely but so impractical, no?

I got one for DD from John Lewis - strictly speaking it's a boys one, but it's a bright green colour so not overly boyish.

I always find boys coats are warm and practical, and girls ones flimsy and impractical.

macherie · 04/10/2008 22:13

Yes the boden one is really warm according to ds. There's the outer waterproof layer, then a layer of wadding, then fleece lining, with a toggle thingy around the bottom to pull in tight.

It's not puffy, quite light, but we had some bitterly cold, windy days during the week, and ds said the coat kept him 'toasty'.

I have been looking for a coat for my DD too, she's a bit older than yours Tobermory. I looked at these today and I was also in TK Maxx but they had nothing I really liked.
I hadn't thought of the Boden anoraks The blonde linked to but I have the chocolate brown with pink lining one from last year for myself and it is indeed very warm.

wonderstuff · 04/10/2008 22:29

why impractical?? looks warm

TheBlonde · 04/10/2008 22:34

it's dry clean only

wonderstuff · 04/10/2008 22:36

oh no! I really think it should be illegal to sell anything designed for children that can't be chucked in the machine

wonderstuff · 04/10/2008 22:38

Although how often do you need to wash coats?

TheBlonde · 05/10/2008 08:09

depends on your child

Tobermory · 05/10/2008 17:38

I think if I bought the blue one I'd be spending too much at the dry cleaners, have had to wash her summer jacket most weeks!

TheBlonde · 05/10/2008 20:24

anyone know what the boden sizing is like?

Wheelybug · 05/10/2008 22:15

In smaller sizes I found it right size for dd but she is now in between 2-3 and 3-4 but she is small so in an average size child I would say its about right age/size IYSWIM.

artichokes · 05/10/2008 22:21

DD has the light pink version of this. Its warm and cosy and waterproof.
