no i dont like the look

CherryChapstick · 02/10/2008 22:00

I heard it was better for sensitive skin and is less clogging for the pores than standard foundation.

ravenAK · 02/10/2008 22:02

Over-rated. I got some from Lily Lolo on a friend's recommendation. It was a cheap sample pot, & it's, well, OK.

Dropped it in my bag for a weekend break at parents' place recently (as didn't expect to be needing make-up, but in case we went out for a meal somewhere posh).

I wouldn't pay a premium for it.

Cappuccino · 02/10/2008 22:04

it makes you all dusty

this is never mentioned

if you are wearing a black top when you look down you have skin-tone dust all over you

Cappuccino · 02/10/2008 22:04

this is from application btw it doesn't fall off your face

LadyGlencoraPalliser · 03/10/2008 00:44

I have the L'Oreal one and I don't like it. Looks cakey and unnatural.

mumhadenough · 03/10/2008 00:52

I started off on the Bare Escentuals stuff, basically because I have dermatitis and all other kinds of foundations were breaking out my skin. Found myself in a kind of catch 22 situation where my skin was so shit because of it, but I wouldn't dare let anyone see my bare face without foundation.

The mineral foundation was definitely so much better for my skin but i found it quite pricey. I now use the Avon one which I find just as good.

I think it looks brilliant on, so much more natural and the coverage is brilliant. You get months out of a tub of it!

I will never ever go back to using normal foundation now.

cmotdibbler · 03/10/2008 08:23

I have the LilyLolo mineral foundation. Its fantastic as it gives a sheer coverage that you can top up as needed in areas, and stays put and matt all day (important for me as I only wear foundation when I'm out on business, and don't do makeup topups). I think its much better for my skin too.

You do need a good kabuki brush to get it on evenly, and lean forward so that as you brush it on it doesn't go on your clothes

WouldYouCouldYouWithAGoat · 03/10/2008 08:47

i got all over excited about it until my sister pointed out i looked a bit old lady powdery. she was right, i am back on the straight and narrow with bobbi brown now.

JacobsPrincess · 03/10/2008 08:52

Avon one is cheap and gives just enough coverage without being powdery. Also blends really well, and is good for sensitive skin. Not great if you've got lots of imperfections, but good for the "barely there" look.
You need only a tiny amount on your brush. the trick is to blend it really well with a big brush.

onepieceoflollipop · 03/10/2008 08:57

Imo if you have greasy skin then you look less powdery iykwim.

I have the Maybelline one and it is fine. It only looks cakey on me if I put the mattifying lotion on first. I have naturally greasky skin though.

However as JP says just a tiny bit is needed.

Hello, I got the Lilly Lolo one first, fab, it's a lovely sheer but glow-y look, the L'Oreal one is too cakey and dry looking, it just looks heavy. Plus the applicator brush is too small. I then got a Bare Minerals one which isnt as good as the Lilly Lolo one, despite being more expensive. I love it, personally. It looks like I am not wearing anything, but just nicer, it calms my sensative skin and I dont feel like I am rubbing horrid foundation all over my baby when he comes for a cuddle. Plus it takes seconds to apply. Just get a nice big brush, and wash it regularily, just like you would your blusher brush. The L Lolo eyeshadows are great, it stays on all day, not like the cake solid eyeshadow which disappers in a matter of hours.

SpongebobControlpants · 03/10/2008 12:59

I have lily lolo, too.

Pros - am very pale and find it difficult to get colour match with other foundations, with this I can mix a couple of shades to get it right. Easy to apply and doesn't look too 'obvious'. Price ok.

Cons - a bit matte looking i.e can make your skin look dull. Hard to get decent coverage (unless I'm doing it wrong).

I have crap skin and cannot go out of the house without foundation, so until I find a good alternative that doesn't cost the earth, I'm sticking with it, although I don't love it

Monkeytrousers · 04/10/2008 09:40

Bloody hell they came this morning! That was quick!

I have been given some mineral foundation stuff, company I haven't heard of though, NYC - but no instructions on exactly how to apply? I assume from above you don't just slap it on a la translucent powder??

Moomin · 04/10/2008 09:44

Lilylolo are great. Recently have been wearing the No.7 tinted moisturiser and then a dusting of the lilylolo foundation just in some areas (nose, under eyes, jawline) and I'm very pleased with results. Yes, it does get on your clothes but you just have to lean into the mirror a bit more - I do my makeup over a sink and in my loft which has a huge skylight above. Natural light is a killer for highlighting flaws but using the mineral stuff it does look loads better.

Moomin · 04/10/2008 09:46

I bought a wide flat foundation brush and I use that to apply- layer it in places that need it and just light covering on other parts. Also have to agree that lilylolo loads better than loreal which does loook cakey and grannyish.

Monkeytrousers · 05/10/2008 11:25

I am liking it. Justa bot confused as when to put on undereye concealer

OP posts:
CatMandu · 05/10/2008 11:29

I have the Loreal one and it works well for me, but I do have the sort of skin that gets very shiney.

bealos · 06/10/2008 12:54

I tried a brand (can't remember which one) in Space NK off Neal St. They applied it and it seemed to be fine. But when I checked in a mirror outside in daylight, I appeared to have wrinkles I never know existed. The powder had sat in tiny lines and made me look, frankly, OLD. which is never really a look you want from your foundation.
