I really like these - am I delusional about their suitability for a woman in her forties?

Have always been a big DM fan but thought my wacky days were behind me until I saw these
Should I or shouldn't I? (Bearing in mind the other option is a sensible pair of knee length black boots.)

Think twice, Stella.

Looks like Jo Brand at the Oscars.

No. No.

southeastastra · 04/09/2008 14:16

bit clumpy, some really nice lace up boots coming though this autumn that are not so clunky

Beetroot · 04/09/2008 14:16

not fun or nice

georgiemum · 04/09/2008 14:18

Your kids will really really hate them. Oh God, I used to have a red pair(home painted with gloss... very creative). T'was back in the 1980s though. I must have looked like noddy.

I had dm boots when I was a stoodent. Loved them. My legs were like spaghetti, loved the clumpiness of them, etc. Am now in my 40s, like you, saw they were staging a comeback and thought about getting a pair for..... about a giga second.

We are too old for all that mullarkey now. We are not Agnys whatshername. We deserve something s bit groovier....

(get not too sensible knee length boots instead. Or something like this)

orangina · 04/09/2008 14:27

gold kickers cod? how on earth can that be any better than gold dms?! link please!

NoblesseOblige · 04/09/2008 14:28

they are nice. if you are planning to wear them under trousers.

with a skirt...

buthey, wouldn't it be boring if everyone wore the same

kdk · 04/09/2008 14:28

What about these then? I've been lusting after them for ages but could be that my taste in boots is about as bad as my taste in men! store.drmartens.co.uk/p-3411-darcie.aspx

rosealbie · 04/09/2008 14:29

No don't like the gold dms.

I did see the gold kickers and thought about them for my dd but actually they are not nice either.

Sparkletastic · 04/09/2008 14:31

am misty-eyed about my lovingly hand-pained DMs back in the day

BUT

no, I don't think so. Sensible - or rather chic - knee-highs are where it is at for us nowadays.

Although Grazia is touting thigh-highs - WTF?!

Sparkletastic · 04/09/2008 14:32

hand-painted even

harpsichordcarrier · 04/09/2008 14:32

Oh I really wanted to say " yes! wear what you like!"
but I have to say:

NOOOOOOO!!!!!
sorry

StellaDallas · 04/09/2008 14:34

So, er, that would be a no then? (Droops head in shame.)
What about these then?
Goddammit can't a girl have any fun in her life?

OP posts:
handlemecarefully · 04/09/2008 14:34

I'd like to wear them too (remiscent of my student days) but since I am 40 I won't!

handlemecarefully · 04/09/2008 14:35

Doc Martens - generally - aged upper thirties plus; not good idea imo. Life isn't fair....

orangina · 04/09/2008 14:35

the kids ones are really cute though...

OrmIrian · 04/09/2008 14:36

DH has just fulfilled a teenage fantasy by buying a pair of cherry 18-holers. I think they look OK as he no longer wears them with short drainpipes and you can't see how long they are under trousers. But he has blisters the size of a 50p piece.

Hassled · 04/09/2008 14:37

The second option is better than the first but unless you're a Helena Bonham-Carter wacky Bohemian type I would still say no.

brimfull · 04/09/2008 14:37

nooooooo
