Hello everyone, old and new.

This is about feeling better about yourself and looking and feeling better etc. But mainly we chat and laugh quite a lot, which has all got to help towards happiness etc.

The rules (anyone can join):

  • Sunscreen at all times
  • No or little booze. Wine or Champagne or whatever at the weekend is allowed if you want it
  • Walking is important, a small amount every day if possible. 30 mins if you can
  • Lots of water, aim for 2 litres a day
  • Apply body cream as often as possible
  • Use hand cream
  • Go to bed early, by 10.30pm if pos
  • Eat healthily
  • Be happy

The idea is that we all feel happier, healthier and glow with the good food, sleep, exercise, water and lack of sun damage.

Some people are doing India and Neris's Idiot Proof Diet (Atkins, more or less), others are doing Slimy World, others are just being as healthy as possible.

Welcome everyone, have a good week.

Hmm, meditating as I do chores..."not now children, I am on another plane. yes, I know it looks like I am making packed lunches but I can assure you I am serene and meditative"

Seriously, I will try that Capp.

Last night I ate lots of cheese and chorizo AND a small Roald Dahl cake AND 2 chocolate biscuits and loads of wine. But drank lots of water too and feel completely fine this morning and quite de-stressed actually.

Out to dinner with friend tonight and dh tomorrow night and then working from home 3 whole days next week, hurrah. Sincerely hoping we're not blown up next Weds but if we are at least I will be at home!

lol at slitheen batters!

No, not out with dodgy women tonight, it's someone I used to work with.

Blu, I have pretty much stuck to no wine in the week for the past year with about ??? (15 odd I reckon?) transgressions. I'm quite proud of this. And this week although I've only managed 4 days out of 5 without any wine I reckon that's pretty good.

I'm so glad it's Friday.

batters am keeping quiet because bootcamping is awful - too much cava, pie and driving car in rain instead of walking
btw - why is your house falling down?

I am knitting though, which does increase my happiness

marina, I'll definitely hold your hand, I've never been so confident that the end of the world isn't nigh

www working from home must be bliss, dh is pressuring me to go up to 4 days a week, to which I simply reply

yoyo, have you seen the dr yet? thinking of you! and yes, i'd give my dds hpv.

oh and ureb, a belated welcometo craig the albino hamster!

Marina · 05/09/2008 12:15

bundy I am doing a log cabin blanket from Mason-Dixon Knitting, and it is a significant happiness-improver
Batters - PMSL at slitheen. Dd adores a fart joke, or even just a fart, so they are her all-time favourite monsters
Our table has a jolly checked waxed cotton cloth on it (with the obligatory tomato sauce splash understains on it if you look closely), a pile of circulars and some elderly apples. Not really a focal point for calm and peace capp
We will be seeing school fairly soon anyway so I am watching and waiting. Ds can be wringing his hands and greeting one minute and then larking about on Club Penguin the next, so it could be that he is getting some excess worry out of his tiny system. She already knows that I consider his teacher last year prepared them most inappropriately for Year 5.

Saggarmakersbottomknocker · 05/09/2008 12:18

My table has a pile of ironing on it which I'm avoiding but I've had my first week off wine since the start of the school holidays. Will be back later.

I had heard that spirulina really does taste vile, that's why I asked

arfishy · 05/09/2008 12:43

AnnieMac that sounds great. I'm always sucked in by a bit of spirulina and flaxseed. I might have to do that for breakfast.

I went back to the gym again, had 2 litres of water, 100 cals of museli for breakfast, patented zero cal soup with wholegrain bread for lunch and a jacket potato with crudites for dinner. No wine, despite DP bringing a couple of bottles up from the cellar and waving them in front of my face .

Must exfoliate though. I am particularly scaly after a long winter of excess.

Worries? Slight niggling concern that our visa runs out in less than a year and we might be turfed out of Australia unless we sort out sponsorship, which is now pretty unlikely as DP's firm has gone into receivership so we've got to start the gruelling self certification nightmare that also costs $$$$$ and it's got to be me that does it as DP is too old and it involves at least 8 years of references, police checks, medicals, exams and all manner of paperwork nightmares. I wish I hadn't thought of that now [puts head back in sand]

Marina · 05/09/2008 12:43

I would kill to get that shake down ds, who needs building up
(wonders if making it in a spaghetti bolognese version is feasible)

bundle · 05/09/2008 12:45

I'm literally shuddering @ the thought of the soaked linseed, whenever we go away with MIL she leaves her glass of gloopy seeds soaking so they're the first thing I see when I bumble around looking for the kettle.

barf!

bundle · 05/09/2008 12:46

no, but it sounds delish

i'm a big fan of calmurid or flexitol, the -ahem- heavy-duty end of the market

I have been terrible this week, so terrible I have not been near this SERIOUS thread for fear of being driven off it with flaming pitchforks and pointy torches.

My excuse is that I have had a v stressful time what with kids back to school, once piece of my childcare jigsaw going missing (three days before start of term) and an mystery inset day that appeared seemingly without warning at the start of term and meant I had to speedily rearrange my whole working week. Have felt utterly ineffective at work and home which makes me feel wretched and still have a ?back to school? shopping list as long as my arm

No running, too much wine, late nights yada yada. Have managed to kick the croissant and latte habit but am lardy lardy lardy.

Things calmer now, so will resume??

V therapeutic reading everyone else?s worries. Not just me then!

Top of my list are money and how ds will fare in year 4. He got a bit lost in his class last year ? he?s a bright, compliant boy who is also quite quiet and shy with new adults (and therefore will be with his new teacher) and I think he does get a bit overlooked sometimes ? left to get on with things and not necessarily stretched. I am wondering whether to go in and explain him to her ? or will that make me a pushy parent before the poor woman has even got started? She has a rep for being nice but ineffectual so have not got high hopes.

Huge sympathies for all of you with tuition issues ? I have enough trouble getting Ds to do his homework once a week ? it?s the bane of my life and has been blissful to have a summer free of it.

The one bright spot in my week was, when I had had a shouty fit about state of house to DH and kids on Mon night (they had been at home all day and was a pigsty, just dreadful) they all tidied up as a surprise ? cleaner also came on Tuesday so when I got back it was a vision. And as they are back at school now, has kind of remained so.

Anniemac I had a glorious six months when DD did ballet and I relived all my ?ballet shoes? moments as a child - she then decided it was far too controlled and girly for her. She?s right ? she?s an explosive run around roll about tomboy and all that tiptoeing about with imaginary baskets just didn?t do it for her!

Blu welcome ? so pleased about your ds.

Ok you knitters - if someone couldn't really knit how do they learn? I can do the middle bit of knitting but can't start or stop (can't remember the proper words - casting on is it?. And can only knit - no fancy stitches. )

Marina · 05/09/2008 15:16

if you can make it to the bootcamp meet-up bundy or I will show you. No pointy torches here . Sorry about your childcare hiccups and good luck to ds in Yr 4.

bundle · 05/09/2008 15:20

marina, that would be lovely - is there a date?

my logcabin (slightly unconventional, in 3 or 4 largish pieces, so will require some sewing up) is zzzzzzzzzzzz atm and I fear some of the green/blues I was using have been discontinued...but threw in some dark brown and pink to make up for it!
