Hello everyone, old and new.

This is about feeling better about yourself and looking and feeling better etc. But mainly we chat and laugh quite a lot, which has all got to help towards happiness etc.

The rules (anyone can join):

  • Sunscreen at all times
  • No or little booze. Wine or Champagne or whatever at the weekend is allowed if you want it
  • Walking is important, a small amount every day if possible. 30 mins if you can
  • Lots of water, aim for 2 litres a day
  • Apply body cream as often as possible
  • Use hand cream
  • Go to bed early, by 10.30pm if pos
  • Eat healthily
  • Be happy

The idea is that we all feel happier, healthier and glow with the good food, sleep, exercise, water and lack of sun damage.

Some people are doing India and Neris's Idiot Proof Diet (Atkins, more or less), others are doing Slimy World, others are just being as healthy as possible.

Welcome everyone, have a good week.

Hello...
Crashing thread to say 'Hi' to JJ and catch up - very good news re your DS!!

But I might have to join.
Can I be on probation for a week or two?

I am flabby and unfit and prepared to watch my eating, v keen to get to grips with body moisturiser and handcream, do my best re early nights...feel very unsure about only drinking at weekends

Food today:
Meusli and half banana with semi-skimed
Coffee
Several fruit flavoured ferrero rocher (unbelieveably awful)
Brie, Parma ham and avocado panini
small Toblerone
bottle of Orangina

Money wasted on gym membership this month: £43

Happy because:
DS is feeling confident enough of his bone-lengthening reatment to have agreed to an optional extra cm in a meeting with his consultant yesterday (aiming now at 7cm)
School sorted out inaccessible desk issue by despatching caretaker to IKEA and finding the perfect table
Had a lovely night out last night
Have arranged to have rotting sills etc dealt with by an astoundingly sexy decorator.

Worries:
price of decorating (no money because of half salary during DS's surgery / wasted gym membership)
Am over-committed, as usual, and avoiding the issue with distractionary MN-ing

blu
can we have more decorator please!
xx

Marina · 04/09/2008 18:16

Photo of decorator please! Fab news re ds, so happy for you

OK here are my worries

1 We are skinter than skint things. Staycation next year and curly kale for us all winter I think

2 I don't like the sound of that Large Hadron Collider much

3 Am fat old greying tatty bloater and not doing bootcamp or SlimyWorld properly

4 Eye of Mordor at work reaches my Dept at work this Autumn, having culled several others already

5 Ds' emotional wellbeing during Year 5 and 6. He is G & T and got a near perfect set of marks in his NFER tests last term, so he actually doesn't have much to worry about, but try telling him that

6 The American election. I don't like pitbulls with or without lipstick

7 Dh is convinced he has nits and is running amok with a nitty gritty comb

8 Aged ps are a worry

8 Our house looks like the corporation dump

Saggarmakersbottomknocker · 04/09/2008 18:56

Oh are we dumping worries? Here's mine...

dd's health malarky - I have PAT (pre appointment tension) and now have to have a run-in with new PE teacher who thinks she can send dd off to run around the lake. Thought I'd done with all that.

ds2's court case.

And skintness.

That aside - hello Blu - nice to see you - glad to hear BoyBlu is coping.

L&S - good news about the sleeping but not about the itching. I just prune mine.

Capp - I'm not eating much either except for large quantities of chocolate. There is always chocolate in the office.

JJ - the secondary school worries continue throughout, sorry.

Ureb - fab results for ds1. Dd's are all in now - 3 6s (the Science was in yr 8) not bad considering her piss poor attendance.

Arfishy - good luck with the gym.

And Norks - agree re weather. was hopeful of an Indian Summer (pigs might fly)

And lastly - stop with all the gossiping - I can't keep up.

WideWebWitch · 04/09/2008 20:03

Oh can I just do me me me me for a minute?

Came in tonight, ds was doing 11+ stuff V WELL, good
DD happy, good

but I have JUST sat down after walking in at 6.30 and I am pissed off because

a) I just made THREE packed lunches, mine, ds's and dd's. Ds usually makes his himself but didn't because he was doing 11+, which is I suppose, fair enough
b) DH made bullet hard burgers (Waitrose organic, they were ok before he got his hands on them) but had I sat down when they were ready WHILE I WAS STILL FKING WELL MAKING LUNCHES I'd have had to stand up again to chaos in the kitchen
c) He has now gone out to badminton, which is good because he wants to go
d) I am feeling fucking irritated at CHORES. Lovely woman who collects children tidied quite a bit when she didn't have to but we haven't got a cleaner atm and the house is getting in a bit of a state
e) DD is FRAGILE and cries at the least thing and wanted to wash dishes in the sink when I wanted to put them in the dishwasher and I wanted to bellow at her, but didn't as I realise it's starting school but AAAARRGGHH. It's that 'you cut my sandwich in the wrong WAY' stuff that's so WEARING.

So I have a large glass of wine in lieu of crappy supper and am going to bed soon ish.
thanks for listening, sorry for moaning.
I am also cross because dh and I tried to talk about FIVE times and were just constantly interrupted by the children and I ended up saying "this is why people break up because they look round and sudden;y realise they haven't fking spoken to each other for 4 years". So have booked to go out with dh on Sat night and that will be nice.

Oh MARINA, my lovely, sorry about all your worries. I am worried about the Hadron thing too and also about the election and the nutters that will get in

I think it is nice to all be dumping our worries

we should do it more, it helps to get it down

although I am dealing with mine with wine atm so that's my rubbish advice

Blu, welcome, my lovely we haven't seen you round these parts before

As you can see we sometimes fall off the no wine in the week wagon!

oi · 04/09/2008 20:09

poor ureb - hope the doc appointment goes ok. These things always come as a shock don't they. Hopefully you'll be able to get a handle on it pretty quickly.

I am not going to list my worries because a)it would take too long ;-) and b) I am trying to focus on happy thoughts at the moment (obviously not doing brilliantly but trying).

Saw gastroent today. Have to go in to have an endoscopy tomorrow evening. They want it out of the way so they can put me on the medication I want. In one way, I'm delighted but I'm also a bit of a wuss (understatement). Cross fingers that dh is back from war zone in time as I need someone to drive me home and would rather it was him if I'm going to be incoherent and drooling .

Right, sorry to hear of everyone else's worries.

oi · 04/09/2008 20:11

and I am ashamed to say I have no idea what 'Large Hadron Collider' entails other than sounding like a baddie from Harry Potter.

WideWebWitch · 04/09/2008 20:12

Oi, that's good that they're doing it tomorrow though isn't it? The Hadron thing is those scientists trying to recreate the Big Bang which sounds like a bad idea to me!

OP posts:
oi · 04/09/2008 20:16

ah that thing. I am surrounded by engineers at work who always make that sort of thing sound very exciting .

Yes, probably good that it's tomorrow. Means I can't spend weeks worrying about someone ramming a camera down my throat. Also means that they will give me a prescription straight afterwards which IS ALL I EVER BLOODY WELL WANTED IN THE FIRST PLACE . Consultant was very funny. He said 'so really all you want is this prescription isn't it' as I tried not to look too desperate.

ps am VERY impressed with the packed lunch for yourself www.

chutneymary · 04/09/2008 20:37

Just looking in

Big love / manly pat on the shoulder to Oi, JJ, Saggars and of course Ureb on the health and family health front. I am so sorry to hear of others' worries and anxieties too. Much sympathy and empathy, girls. I won't post mine right now as am in sensitive pg old trout mode and may flood the thread. Poor DD1 has had to spend a good half hour wiping my face and saying "no more tears, Mummy" as i wept over pesto penne being hurled on the floor. She's only 3 FGS. Must make mental note to remember which one of us has the grown up badge.

I think the picture of the sexy decorator would provide an ideal diversion.

Cammelia · 04/09/2008 20:43

Good evening to all and welcome to Blu

Oh that sounds like I'm opening a WI meeting doesn't it

Anyway Blu, now you've posted here you will never escape, I once spent about a year posting only here and not on any of the rest of mumsnet.

Batters, I need you to explain why your dd is having extra tuition, I thought she was at a school that included seniors, am I wrong?

Dd's first day back (Year 7) they have to wear a blazer now they are at the senior end of the school (goes up to Year 8). I have not and will not drink any alcohol tonight as I am joining www on the wagon during the week....oh, ww's fallen off already

Luckily the end of the week is tomorrow and I only stopped at the end of the school hols (yesterday) so I think I can manage this week

Sorry to hear about everyone's worries, I'll just cry about the fact that I'm marginally older than loveandsqualor's step-mother and JJ, the way to not feel old is to do what I do, go to see bands that are the same age as yourself. Which is why I've seen Prince and The Fall in the last year

bundle · 04/09/2008 22:03

girls

there is nothing to worry about wrt the LHC

let's get some pics of the decorator to distract us from the rest of our worries, he will keep us warm during the coming autumn

yoyo · 04/09/2008 22:25

Been to gym and am about to have a cup of tea having answered in the negative DH's "Glass of wine?". Hurrah.

Current worries (the ones that wake me at 3.45 a.m.):

  1. Breast lump
  2. Should DD1 have HPV vaccination
  3. Money
arfishy · 04/09/2008 23:01

Soup recipe for Capp

3 x 400g cans chopped tomatoes
1 onion, chopped
2 garlic cloves, finely chopped
2 carrots, chopped
2 sticks celery, chopped
2 courgettes, chopped
4 cups (1 litre) vegetable stock
1/2 cup (125ml) peas (I like the mint ones)
As much chilli flakes as you can handle

Combine all ingredients except peas in a saucepan over medium heat. Season with salt and black pepper. Cook for about 20 minutes or until vegetables soften (depends on how chunky you make the veg).

Transfer the soup to a food processor (or use a wand). If you prefer chunky soup just blend half of the mixture. Add the peas, leave for a minute or so and serve.

It's a new version of the Weight Watchers zero point soup. Super easy and no calories just about. Very filling.

tortoiseshell · 04/09/2008 23:10

Hello everyone, have been rubbish. (Hence hiding from the thread, and only venturing onto www's contentious threads )

Ds1 and dd went back to school today, dd into Y1, ds1 into Y3 - from what he said I think he is going to be the 'annoying boy' this year - their lovely new teacher read them Esio Trot by Roald Dahl - ds1 said 'when she said she was going to read Roald Dahl, I put my hand up and said I knew LOTS about Roald Dahl, I've read LOTS of his books - then when she read it I put my hand up again and told her it wasn't actually Eh-sio, it was Ee-sio, and also she said 'puh' and it should be 'poo' ' (the word 'up' backwards, but the joke is it sounds like poo) ' and she said that she knew that, but if she said 'poo' then all the silly boys in the class would laugh....'

He also requested extra maths work in their golden time when everyone else was playing...

Sorry about everyone's worries - ureb - hope you have a good appointment on Friday. And hope everyone else's worries resolve, and we don't all get blown up by the hadron wotsit.

Marina · 05/09/2008 09:23

Good luck today ureb and oi, and Yoyo, when do you next see a doctor about the lump in your breast?
LOL at TS' "annoying" ds1, hopefully she will recognise his sterling qualities and cultivate them. There is a lad in ds' class just like this, and the lovely teacher's tactic last year was to get them all to chorus, "oh do shut up, X" it transpired.
Bundy, can I sit next to you and hold your hand when those loons in white coats fire up the Collider? The most otherworldly and daft physicist I knew at uni was destined for CERN on graduation, I would not trust that man to buy a pint of milk, frankly.
Goodish day yesterday - walk, water, fair eating. Had snappish row with dh last night though and ds reports that some children are doing nightly practice papers for the fecking 11 plus NOW. More than a YEAR before the exam. So he is wondering if he should . One child possibly needs the extra practice, the other does not. And I thought her parents were normal...
It's been curiously reassuring to read everyone else's worries, rational or otherwise, big or small. In RL you so dread being the spectre at the feast/school-gate Cassandra, but after this cavalcade of collective angst, I now feel much less weird, hurrah.
I have a nightmare Saturday ahead of me (three parties back to back, none of them dodgeable and one of them involving singing an Abba song, dh making a speech and us providing sodding sandwiches - just don't ask). I am sure that will burn off a few calories.
Wishing everyone a serene and decorative (where is he then Blu, dish) fin de semaine.

hello there Olive

where you are going you will need lots of sunscreen

(you will still be on here tho right? )

arfishy thanks for recipe

anniemac will you be buying lots of Noel Streatfield books too?

WWW I hear you on the chores thing, the only thing that has come any close for me to making it bearable is reading quite a bit about meditation

it would be lovely to sit in front of a white table with flowers on it as the Meditation Society of Australia advises but who the f*ck has the time for that? I have also come across some really useful stuff about present moment, about concentrating all your attention on the task in hand, and using housework and chores and things as a form of meditation in themselves

it's tricky to start with but there's certainly something in it I've found, turning something stressful into a destresser has a smug factor about it too

mind you cod says I am a yoga weirdy so best ignore me
