swimming with a pair of shorts on over their costumes, would you think:

a) nothing of it?
b) how odd!
c) what's she hiding?
d) I would wear that too if I was that fat?
e) bet she needs a wax!
f) do I have a bottle of wine in the fridge or should I get one on the way home?

i used have this with my friend who was conciuos of her weight all the time. especially about eating in public or shopping in 'skinny' shops or swimming. so i asked her what do you think when you see people do it? she replied that she cant recall ever noticing but she is sure that she will have people do those things. my point exactly no one was thinking anything about her infact they werent even noticing her.

its you who is conciuos about your body not the genral public. wear whatver you like and enjoy swimming. no one will be thinking anything of you. unless of course you are going to walk into the pool with a tin of lager iin one hand and a fag in the other fing and blinding at your lo?

Interesting PIJC - what a good idea. How does the tunic bit not cling when wet?

Public pools being what they are, have you checked that your pool doesn't have some health [irony] and safety policy that says you can't wear the tunic bit?

I think the swimsuit with long shorts was good too.

Good luck for Saturday No4!

FabioTheFlouncingCat · 27/08/2008 15:08

burkini
brilliant

PussinJimmyChoos · 27/08/2008 15:12

Ahh, the tunic bit is just for outside the pool i.e if on the beach and want to cover up your norkage or similar..but then you take it off before swimming.

The outfit is proper swimming material too and I checked with the local pool and they said it was fine and as its in an ethnic minority area, they are used to women in burkinis which I was reassured about as did not want life guards to fall off their chairs pissing themselves laughing when I walked in

I shall breeze in with confidence and be a 12st Green Goddess but in Black type mnetter minus the star jumps.....

NorbertDentressangle · 27/08/2008 15:13

There was a woman wearing a T-shirt over her costume at our pool this morning which I've never seen before but TBH I didn't really wonder why

(I was too busy wondering why another 2 women in tankinis spent the entire time standing knee deep in the "beach" area talking, and didn't go any deeper in the water/didn't swim or anything. Why spend £3.50 to paddle and chat?)

FabioTheFlouncingCat · 27/08/2008 15:13

Marvellous PIJC

PussinJimmyChoos · 27/08/2008 15:16

Norbert - if they were in tankinis and just chatting in the beach area, I am predicting that they had nice figures and were showing them off...not that I am at all jealous of nice figures...oh no....

NorbertDentressangle · 27/08/2008 15:20

PIJC- Well funnily enough one was a tanned size 6-8 who did look as though she fancied herself a bit (not that I'm making sweeping assumptions here ) , the other was an average pale size 14-16.

The pool was heaving too so they looked really odd just standing there not getting wet. No sign of their kids anywhere -they'd disappeared off for a swim

macherie · 27/08/2008 15:22

Numberfour, how about this page

NumberFour · 27/08/2008 15:26

fabio, no need to apologise re arse comment!

Or this

I have this one, I'm a size 10 but I hate the tops of my thighs. It's lovely on and people are always asking where I got it.

Search on ebay.com for swimdress and you'll find lots

newgirl · 27/08/2008 15:27

mate just go for it in a decent cossie - wrap a fab towel around you until you are about to get in. At the very least think about the message you are sending to your kids - they think you are gorgeous so why give them any idea otherwise?

No 4, I swim alot and use a gym with a pool, so lots and lots of ladies of all shapes and sizes wandering around in cossies. Some wear shorts and I don't blink an eye, don't think many others do either. So, wear what ever you feel most confident in. I'm sure you and your ds will have a lovely time, surely that is what going to the pool is about.

A girl on my hold wore shorts in the pool with a bikini top. I thought she was trendy.

TheCrackFox · 27/08/2008 16:16

I always think it is a bit odd women who wear T-shirts over their cossies. After they have been in the water for 2 seconds it sticks to them so you can see what their figure is like anyway. It can't be very comfortable for them and I for one don't give a toss how fat they are. It just seems to draw attention to them if anything.

blowsy · 27/08/2008 16:21

I think you''d draw more attention to yourself with shorts tbh.

I have a really fat friend who wears a normal cossie and no-one bats an eyelid. (We have an outdoor pool at school which is open to school families all summer, so there's lots of mums bearing all). Good on her, I say.

FabioTheFlouncingCat · 27/08/2008 16:21

But cod it's called a burkini
WHich made me lol.
I am a pun loving cat.

You must stop firgging poor Nora, you know, she's knackered.

Milliways · 27/08/2008 16:30

The kids at DS's Swimming club all wear drag shorts over costumes - better resistance training!
The girls also prefer the shorts look.

lots of women round here wear cycling shorts or leggings under their costumes. looks much nicer than shorts over the top and you wouldn't have a load of material billowing round in the water.

widgypog · 27/08/2008 17:22

I actually saw a young girl wearing this at my pool the other day and I thought why the hell didn't I think of that.My tankini tops always gets water inside it and puffs up. So i thought that combo would work well as I hate baring all..
