I would like a pottering around the house outfit that isn't sportswear. What do you wear to potter?

For the days when you don't plan to leave the house or see anyone, but you have stuff to do.

Can't bear the thought of not getting up and dressed (pjs all day - ugh, I know some people do it, but nooooo).

If I put on tracksuit pants and a t-shirt I feel munty all day. Maybe I need nicer tracksuit pants?

But I don't like getting properly dressed in real clothes either for lots of reasons.

What do you put on, on these days?

For the 50s housewife in all of us?

LittleDorrit · 21/08/2008 23:00

OMG, Gok - this stuff must be aimed at the over 90s...

Very tempted by the stuff suggested by Traceybath from the White Company - not sure if I can justify the cost, but tempting...

JackieNo · 21/08/2008 23:01

Traceybath - that was the sort of thing I was going to suggest - often called 'yoga trousers' or similar. Basically flared trackie bottoms.

Heated · 21/08/2008 23:04

or the playsuit, though shame it's not in towelling

JackieNo · 21/08/2008 23:05

With cashmere (but still machine washable)

JackieNo · 21/08/2008 23:07

Cheaper (but dreadful photo)

Heated · 21/08/2008 23:08

or get the neighbours wondering, these?

chapstickchick · 21/08/2008 23:10

a french maid outfit?? with feather duster

Heated · 21/08/2008 23:13

la redoute

Superfanj · 21/08/2008 23:13

oh my, those 'harem' trouser have made me giggle - hammer time anyone? may I ask for what occasion would one actually wear those crazy trews?

Why would trackie bottoms make you feel like a munter?!
I have a few Juicy Couture tracksuits that I bought in the sale and I think they look great. I wear them if I need to pop out for something too, because they are "glam" enough!

Very comfy in velour too!

Nbg · 22/08/2008 11:15

MN could start their own brand.

Step aside Rocawear and say hello to "Munterwear"

FWIW I'm muntering it up today too, like most days really.

expatinscotland · 22/08/2008 11:16

sweatsuits or sweat bottoms with a tshirt (long or short sleeved depending on the weather).

sagacious · 22/08/2008 11:23

I wear slouchy boyfriend jeans (agree with Anniemac) and either a fineknit v neck jumper or a camisole type top.

I have one pair of tracksuit type trousers they are strictly gymwear

wombleprincess · 22/08/2008 11:27

hi have a brown velvet tracksuit which is affectionately known as my "chavsuit". there is some lovely stuff at the white company which i am always tempted with... that said i have never lounged for full day, who am i kidding..!

TheDevilWearsPrimark · 22/08/2008 11:30

I never 'potter'

That's just one of those phrases that really irritates me, it makes me think of myself ambling around with a vacant expression on my face.

But that aside.

I love wearing slightly baggy jersey dresses around the house, and long sleeve 'jumper dresses' in the winter. Always with comfy hotpant type pants under. Sometimes with knee high socks. So cosy, and the sort of thing I would never wear out.

BroccoliSpears · 22/08/2008 14:38

PMSL at some of these suggestions. Love the housecoat and the playsuit!

I think I have my terminology wrong. When I said tracksuit pants, judging by your links I think I meant yoga pants. What are tracksuit pants then? Anyway, stretch material, elastic waisted trousers are what I meant. Good for doing yoga in. Not good for wearing all day. I don't feel dressed.

DWP - jersey dresses and jumper dressed. YES! Where do you get them from? What sort of thing?

expatinscotland · 22/08/2008 19:35

oh, yes, i also wear yoga pants and old climbing pants with some sort of top - it doesn't have to match, just be suitable for the weather.

i don't do much pottering, either.

i'm either up doing something or sitting my pregnant fat arse down.

moondog · 22/08/2008 19:50

I have found perfect stuff here on travels in Bangladesh, namely

shalwar khameez of which have tonnes.

Most comfy are lighter than this in very fine block printed cotton. Lovely.
