Hello everyone, old and new.

This is about feeling better about yourself and looking and feeling better etc. But mainly we chat and laugh quite a lot, which has all got to help towards happiness etc.

The rules (anyone can join):

  • Sunscreen at all times - REALLY mean this now summer is here.
  • No or little booze. Wine or Champagne or whatever at the weekend is allowed if you want it
  • Walking is important, a small amount every day if possible. 30 mins if you can
  • Lots of water, aim for 2 litres a day
  • Apply body cream as often as possible
  • Use hand cream
  • Go to bed early, by 10.30pm if pos
  • Eat healthily
  • Be happy

The idea is that we all feel happier, healthier and glow with the good food, sleep, exercise, water and lack of sun damage.

Some people are doing India and Neris's Idiot Proof Diet (Atkins, more or less), others are doing Slimy World, others are just being as healthy as possible.

Welcome everyone, have a good week.

There really are a lot of Leos / Leo children on this thread aren't there?

Happy birthday TS.

Same as my two cousins, sobernow.

Never considered my uncle to be the romantic sort...

It's a wonder my two August-born weren't pickled tbh, I remember some rather drunken Christmas antics...

TheDuchessOfNorksBride · 12/08/2008 23:42

Happy Birthday t/shell.

An OK-ish day. DH is up in town meeting his American programmers, so it's full on with the 4 DCs for me until Thursday morning.

So I'm off to bed now rather than at 1am. Why can't I do early nights?

WideWebWitch · 13/08/2008 07:49

Hello all
Happy birthday TS for yesterday, hope the Chinese was good

Yesterday
3 sausages
spinach salad, tuna, anchovies, tomatoes, cucumber, quails eggs
salami and Austrian smoked cheese
brazil nuts
cheese and tarragon omelette with spinach
wine I'm afraid. Am fairly stressed at my contract ending and although they have said there's 8 weeks more work, there isn't really, my boss is just being kind. She has given me tedious job to do which could really be done by someone cheaper, she is very nice. In the absence of anything else I'll do it but my head has just been whirring and I have been v busy looking for a job. I have a hopeful possibility that is a year long contract and they're going to put me forward today so fingers crossed they want to see me and I get it. It's in bloody Slough so but on the bright side it's highly unlikely to be my current 4.5 hour commute, almost anything is going to be easier than that, so And I am bored at work now I've done what I was tasked with doing.

I have some Champagne that is not in the fridge and if I get a new contract (or perm job although not sure I want one tbh) we will drink it. I won't even chill it yet as that seems like tempting fate.

I also def have a cold coming, what a pain.

Sobernow, that sounds sad cleaning the house out, I hope you're ok.

Wel;come back Eemie.

Hope everyone is having an ok week.

Hello - thank you for the birthday wishes! We did have a nice chinese - mini spring rolls, samosas, crispy seaweed, spare ribs, crispy shredded chilli beef, chicken with green peppers in black bean sauce and rice, but tbh after the first bits (spring rolls etc) I was really full so didn't have that much of the main dishes. I also had a glass of white wine. So I think that will have to count as a day off boot camp. Back to the wagon today.

Www - hope something good comes up soon that is close.

Sobernow - fingers crossed the fleas are dead.

TheDuchessOfNorksBride · 13/08/2008 10:58

www - it'll be easier to look for other contracts if you're brain isn't totally focussed on a tough assignment, so 8 weeks of tedious work is no bad thing. I hope you find something close to home/easy to get to - an hour each way would be nice eh?

t/shell - dinner sounds lovely.

We're off the library as we've finished Team Read, DD2 may get her medal today but the other 2 are getting theirs at school. Now we just have all their homework to do...

Enjoy the windy weather.

TheDuchessOfNorksBride · 13/08/2008 11:00

your brain (Duch demonstrates lack of focus on her grammar).

chutneymary · 13/08/2008 19:54

Happy birthday tortoiseshell. Hope you had a good day.

WWW, complete bummer about your job. I am so sorry. How far are you from Slough? Really keeping fingers crossed that job turns up soon and that you can crack open the champers.

Eemie, sorry you are feeling pants. Hope you feel better soon. But a good thing not to have put on weight - cloud, lining etc. Sorry that it spoilt your holidays though. Have you taken some yoghurt to help with the antibiotics? Might help you feel a bit better.

Norks, you are my heroine, coping womanfully with 4 kids under 6. I'd be on the gin - in fact, when I have 3 under 3 1/2 I may be expelled from the camp for alcohol transgressions. How will I manage?

Sobernow, hope you are OK and work is providing some respite from the house clearing. How is your DH doing?

Thinking of you L and S as you have your thinking time with your parents. I know you have a lot of hard decisions to make but expect you might feel more settled once you have decided what you should do.

Hello everyone else, hope all are well.

Had my scan today at lovely Kings. It's a boy and I am terrified and a bit disappointed if I am very honest. My DDs are so fab at the moment and I don't really know much about boys (well, not until they are much bigger IYKWIM). Can any of the campers with boys give me some pointers please? I'd sort of assumed that I'd have another girl and this has thrown me completely. There was also a lot of guff at the hospital about my advanced age, the risk of Downs etc, did I want an amnio and I just feel a bit bewildered by it all. Any words of wisdom greatly appreciated. Sorry to dump this on you ladies, but I feel more comfortable asking here than on the AN thread.

Sorry for the me me me.

WideWebWitch · 13/08/2008 20:37

Chutney, boys are lovely and fab and it'll be FINE! How old are you? Have you had a nuchal fold thing? Are YOU worried about it? Sorry it's been a bit of a stress and really, do vent on this thread as much as you like.

Duch and Ts and everyone, thanks for the commiserations and positive thoughts on the job front. Working from home today made me realise how much I don't want to commute for much longer, sigh.

Anyway,

bacon and eggs
some port salut and salami
mushrooms fried in garlic butter on a bed of raw spinach
some more cheese
chicken breast wrapped in bacon with raw spinach
and dh just handed me a glass of wine, oh well

Have had various conversations with agencies today but no interviews yet. Never mind, it will be ok, it will be ok

Yes L&S, I hope you're ok.

Wong, meant to say about your cholesterol, hmm, so interesting to see if it goes down again once you';ve laid off the charcuterie etc. Please, at size 10, no wonder you couldn't talk to fatty doctor about weight! I haven't been a size 10 since 1997.

Where is Batters? And Marina? I'm hoping Marina is in France, but could have imagined that.

OP posts:
Saggarmakersbottomknocker · 13/08/2008 21:03

Size 10 !

  • I haven't been that since 1987 - prekids. At 10 stone I still have a big bum and am hence a 12.

www - hope you find a new contract soonish. Is Slough not nice?

Yes where are the AWOL bootcampers? Especially L&S - hope you're OK and JJ too, hoping JJjr is healing well.

Stressy week here - dd had an appointment for a cardiac MRI which I've had to cancel again. It needs doing but I don't want to think about what it might mean for the future. ds2 is off to V-festival tomorrow after collecting his AS results, which he's only now starting to worry about. Bit late in the day for that I think.

I'm seriously off the wagon and boy can I tell. Also have been grazing in the fridge most of the day. Both stress related.

Chutney - agreed, boys are fab but understand the apprehension. When I had dd after two boys I felt the same. No help here with regards to amnio and stuff - not something I have experience of. The only wisdom I can offer is to ask yourself what you would do with the results. If they would change nothing then is there a point to having the tests? Rant away.

WideWebWitch · 13/08/2008 21:20

Slough

OP posts:
TheDuchessOfNorksBride · 13/08/2008 21:30

Talking of Size 10s, DD1 tried my old tennis skirts on today (she's in post-tennis camp euphoria) and they all fitted her. There was a size 8, a size 10 and one that was just marked 'small'. They must be very small sizes though, I'm a 12ish at the moment and I wouldn't have a hope of getting them on.

chutney - DD1 & DS1s nuchal scan results (at 12 wks) were a spanking 1 in 2500. I was only one year older when I had the same scan for DC3, which was 1 in 80, so I was offered amnio etc. DH & I decided that we'd be unable to abort an SN child so I didn't have any further tests. At the next 20wk scan, the sonographer spent a long, long time checking the spine for indications of bifida, facial features for signs of Downs etc and she was fairly confident that all was well. I'm sorry that it's a tough decision and all yours for the making. How old is 'advanced age' btw?!?

saggar - you asked if Slough was nice. John Betjemen didn't think so!

Today I have mostly been getting children in and out of the car and getting wet. The day ended in a big shouty session with DCs at bedtime, which often happens when DH is away. Thank heavens he's back tomorrow.

I'm off to watch the Olympics. Chocolate will be involved.

TheDuchessOfNorksBride · 13/08/2008 21:33

Snap with the Betjemen www!

unknownrebelbang · 13/08/2008 22:55

I don't think I've ever been a 10! And I don't think I've been a 12 well, since I was a teenager.

Chutney, boys are lovely adorable little creatures. You'll be fine, truly you will.

Saggars, am sure DS will have a great time.

Slough? you want to try Stoke! eh Saggars??

DH can do spontaneous! He rang me up to take me out for lunch. Was most impressed (lunch wasn't much to write about tho, lol).

I am tres tres excited! The boys have all got a place on a YHA activity week, which means me and DH can get away for a couple of days afterall! Am also rather anxious, but they'll be fine...won't they?

Bootcamping? nah, I just can't do it during school holidays when I'm working. (excuses excuses).

Saggarmakersbottomknocker · 13/08/2008 23:03

That's just what I was thinking rebel. Stoke could be 'twinned' with Slough.

Good news about your awaydays.

unknownrebelbang · 13/08/2008 23:16

I did a jig around the office when I spoke to DH - and the boss signed my leavesheet there and then!

Duch, I'm "only" 38, but this is over double the age of your average Kings customer so causes raised eyebrows. My risk was 1:3700, but they found a problem with a kidney that resolved itself once he had a wee, but which prompted "it's a soft marker, could be a sign, you could be the one, you are 38 after all, I can do an amnio today for you etc etc". Set me off completely. Feel better after some sleep.

Thanks for all the kind words - much appreciated.

Happy Thursday everyone.

tigermoth · 14/08/2008 08:05

Sobernow, Dh says that it is probably more effective and cheaper in the long run to get in a pest controller. He reminded me that many years ago, before he was a pest control officer, we had a flea infestation at home and used some heavy duty flea spray at £18.00 a can, but we went through several cans before the fleas were eradicated.

Anyway, hope you've proved him wrong, but if your dh is still reluctant to get in a pest control person, pass this info on to him.

Happy birthday TS!

And chutney, boys are lovely IME - very affectionate little beings on the whole

eemie · 14/08/2008 08:45

Chutney, thanks for reminding me about yoghurt and congratulations.

re: Downs, a risk of 1 in >3,000 is very good. I was 42 when I had dd and after nuchal fold was given a risk of 1 in 200. We reasoned that this was less than the risk of losing the baby through amnio or CVS (which was about 1 in 100 then, and of course it's the same if the chromosomes are normal) so we refused any further tests and dd is perfect.

HTH

feetheart · 14/08/2008 11:59

Chutney - boys are LOVELY. I had DD first and thought she was easy and laidback until DS turned up. He'll keep you fit though once he's on the move if he's anything like my DS
I was 40 when pg with DD (first timer) and at the first hospital appointment the MW and Registrar tried to bamboozle me into an amnio, wittering on about me being at 1:110 risk of Downes because of my age and saying the miscarriage risk was only 1%. I insisted on triple test first inspite of MUCH muttering and it came back very low risk (much temptation to stick up 2 fingers at 'professionals')
With DS I was 43, different hospital and LOVELY consultant. Said he would do Nuchal scan on NHS (due to my age) if we wanted it but wanted us to think if we would do anything. If not he suggested we didn't do any testing at all as it would cause us to worry. Very sensible advice and fitted in with what we thought too. Didn't do any testing, enjoyed pregnancy (as much as possible) and DS fine.
HTH

Will report on bootcamp later as DC want me to play!
