I know Next diecrtory, m and S and John Lewis are not the trendiest places to shop, but I expected to be able to find some navy trousers to wear with a cream wool jacket for a September wedding. No navy anywhere? Am I hideously off-trend (I hate the on-trend phrase) to even consider navy?

Navy is foul imo. Has it ever been in fashion, apart from school uniforms? I've not seen any navy in the shops recently, except perhaps in old lady shops....

Can't you wear brown trousers with a cream jacket? There are so many colours that go with cream better than navy.

now I hadn't considered brown. Mum has forced me to buy very expensive skirt to go with jacket but I feel much happier in trousers since my waist disappeared after having ds.

Navy tends to be around in the spring - the whole red, white and blue thing that comes round perennially.

Agree all over brown is a no-no and some shades are not nice, but it matches a cream jacket much better than navy. Had the jacket been white of course the opposite would apply.

Alternatively, you could choose burgundy, rust or various shades in between. A warm colour would go better.

Yes I have been looking for a pair of navy trousers for ages and ages. Not worky ones, and not slouchy ones, just lovely ones that are a bit more dressed up than jeans...

Anyway, I saw a pair in Tommy Hilfiger, didn't even mean to go into that shop, I wandered in accidentally when I was in a shopping centre. The price of them could feed an African family of 8 for 3 months, and I am ashamed but Ibought them and they're lovely.

I wouldn't wear them with red though. Too obvious.

I love navy- I hate brown, I did get some navy trousers in Next inearly spring.

RoccocoFlourishes · 07/08/2008 13:57

Yes brown is the shit colour. Rust and beige are acceptable, anything in the poo spectrum is an error of judgement imo.

Navy on the otherhand is flattering for god's sake. I have a lovely navy belted coat. Everybody compliments it while they carry on wearing black.

I saw a nice wrap dress in H&M the otherday. Blue and Navy. I would have to wear a support vest and a skirt slip under it though. SOUNDS frumpy but it looks a hunder times better.

I love navy, esp in winter. Often wear a combination of black and navy, looks very chic

RoccocoFlourishes · 07/08/2008 14:13

hmmmm.

norkmaiden · 07/08/2008 14:14

navy here, but I'd also go for some kind of brown/rust/bronze fwiw

flowerybeanbag · 07/08/2008 14:20

I got some bargainous navy trousers in the Gap sale, £9.99, their wide leg ones, v v nice. I like navy because of colour-with-black issues, although shoes are a headache.

fishie · 07/08/2008 14:27

i love navy, esp with bright green. am in dire need of navy slim fit crop trousers for being smart in at work.

beeny · 07/08/2008 14:29

Stargazing · 07/08/2008 16:28

my new favourite dress is a navy one from Primark with white stars all over it. Have not read whole thread so apologies if repeating others but Observer Woman on Sunday had a 'best of the high street special" and there was a navy suit from Zara, jacket £45 and trousers ££29.
How about Reiss, they would surely have navy?
