Why is matching gear so irritating?

No19 · 31/07/2008 09:35

I hate things that match. Shoes / bag. Pram / nappy bag. Two children dressed the same. Men in coloured shirts with the same coloured tie. Shirt / tie sets. I don't even like matching plates.

Should I be in AIBU? Or having a little light therapy?

bit of both?
lol
i quite like the nappy bag matching the puchchair thing. but the children dressed alike really annoys me to.
matching plates are a necessity. i think the table tlooks horrible if non matching. but obviously with a buffet, its not possible to have that many matching.

EffiePerine · 31/07/2008 11:20

I don't like matchy things either but I am v v lazy

esp dislike matching underwear as the knickers are all nylon and expensive

cornsilk · 31/07/2008 11:22

If I'm matching it's usually by chance.

MaryAnnSingleton · 31/07/2008 11:23

No19 - I am with you there - hate matching stuff,yuck.

claricebeansmum · 31/07/2008 11:24

DH and I often match. Jeans, white t-shirt, navy jumper, deck shoes. This is by chance but we both like similiar type clothes - dull I suppose.

He doesn't wear ear-rings though.

wasabipeanut · 31/07/2008 11:25

I'm with No 19 - never been a matchy matchy person. Nothing in our house matches unless it's by accident.

Although since I have been working in marketing I have become very aware of colours and their various combinations!

MaryAnnSingleton · 31/07/2008 11:25

I think it's more the matching stuff to your own outfit/home than wearing same type of things as your other half/dcs...
think it shows serious lack of imagination !

OverMyDeadBody · 31/07/2008 11:27

I don't like matching things either, but co-ordinating I like.

My pet hate is matching curtains and cushion covers/bedspread.

I have no matching chairs in my house, they are all odd. I like that.

DeeRiguer · 31/07/2008 11:29

with my mil everything has to match...
and infact often it, er, doesnt...i should say!

i match by accident not design
prefer contrasting stuff really
but, is that reverse matching would you say?

cheesesarnie · 31/07/2008 11:29

i think the plate thing is bit too far!
i dont do matching,im far too lazy and if something ever matches such as underwear or once the boys wore matching thing one and thing two tops-im shocked!how did that happen??

ranting · 31/07/2008 11:30

I really don't like matchy things but, my BIL describes me as a bit of a hippy, so that could be the reason.

psychomum5 · 31/07/2008 11:30

I like matching.

am I odd then????

JumpingDizzy · 31/07/2008 11:33

I prefer co-ordinated too. Don't like matching shoes and handbag, very old lady.
I like a matching dinner set though.

ranting, I get told I'm a bit of a hippy too

ranting · 31/07/2008 11:39

God I used to work with a woman who had an Eternal Beau matching crockery set (back in the late 80s), very proud of it, she was.

psychomum5 · 31/07/2008 11:41

ranting.....my SIL had that sat (in fact, both SIL's did).

hidious set.

ranting · 31/07/2008 11:42

Bramble rose, much classier I feel

Whatever happened to Eternal Beau?

psychomum5 · 31/07/2008 11:44

ranting · 31/07/2008 11:45

Lol.

citronella · 31/07/2008 11:45

I like dressing my boys the same and they like it.

EffiePerine · 31/07/2008 11:49

what about those plates with the ribbons painted on? And people who lay with table so all the bows are pointing in the same direction...

JumpingDizzy · 31/07/2008 11:50

citronella exdh and I dress our boys the same too sometimes Only 3 years in it and one day they'll be too old for it. Are 7 and 10 now.

ranting · 31/07/2008 11:51

Heavens I have just google Eternal Beau and people actually 'bid' for it on Ebay. Well I never!

citronella · 31/07/2008 13:01

Exactly JumpingDizzy

moondog · 31/07/2008 13:03

My sister was given loads of Eternal Bean crap. Height of fashion in 1987.
I detest those prams and huge nappy bags. What the hell do people put in them???

psychomum5 · 31/07/2008 13:12

mmondog, the nappy bags contain everything you will need to keep baby fed/clean/entertained for a week!

or just one day with my DD3 and her ability to vomit on everything in sight.
