Stylish people only; What do you carry your picnic in?

Going out with 3DC's so need something practical (not talking basket complete with chmpagne glasses)

Is a Cath kidson cool bag really the answer? Is there anything easier to carry?
Goggling only tuned up picnic stuff for over 50's.

I usually use my National Trust coolbag - not so cool but it's just beige so pretty inoffensive. Will a CK one look a bit poncey?

geordieminx · 26/07/2008 10:09

i got a fab cool bag in next. Its red, just looks like a changing bag? One side has cups plates and stuff in, the other is a cool bit. I hummed and ha'ed for ages as i had seen some lovely picnic boxes but they were all too big, couldnt carry them. It was 23 quid i think?

SqueakyPop · 26/07/2008 10:15

I have a wheeled/trolley-style cooler

differentID · 26/07/2008 10:34

we have this

hughjarssss · 26/07/2008 10:37

Thats what we have differentID although in our one there is not a lot of room for food. We use a coolbag as well.

lol at 'stylish people only'

we too have a lovely wicker basket with smart contents & plastic champagne flutes (wedding present)

for non poncey occasions have one of those rucksack ones - it's brilliant. got in NZ but they have them in various places in the UK. Very handy. have a chilly bin with a handle too

windygalestoday · 26/07/2008 12:51

a tesco/aldi/netto bag packed with cold fruit shoots will suffice,,,,,,maybe a chilled bottle of cider in a plastic bottle

Yes, you need some Waitrose carrier bags for the rubbish...

expatinscotland · 26/07/2008 12:52

i shove a coolbag in this.

wheresthehamster · 26/07/2008 12:53

Actually just noticed 'stylish people only' and the dig at the over 50s

I don't get picnic hampers. Surely they are just cutlery and crockery carriers. You can't actually fit any food in there
too.

expatinscotland · 26/07/2008 13:42

no, there's nothing funky about the trundle, the bonus is it's got wheels! you don't have to pick it up and schlep all your kit around when you're 26 weeks pregnant.

LynetteScavo · 26/07/2008 20:37

expat - you'll be able to stick your baby in that funky trundle thingy too!

I'm going on a picnic with a couple of other mums, and want to give the impression that I do picnics effortlessly and stylishly every day of the summer holidays. (God I hope they're not Mumsnetters! )

OP posts:
Alambil · 26/07/2008 21:06

I use this

expatinscotland · 26/07/2008 21:12

Oh, I do picnics effortlessly, Lynette!

Years of practice!

Come summer, most of our gear is permanently packed - picnic stuff in the trundle plus one bag, sand stuff in a box.

We just add hot water for coffee and tea to the flask, fresh milk to the coolbag and our food, which I usually prepare the night before (need to go and whip up some cucumber yoghurt dip and hummous, come to think of it), and bevvies.

Ready to go!

And I'm never stumbling along like a beast of burden because my 'nicnic' as DD2 calls it, is on wheels.

Fimbo · 26/07/2008 21:29

Ds would love that trundle for his toys.

We have a good old M & S black cool bag.

LynetteScavo · 26/07/2008 21:58

Lewisfan, I don't want plates, etc - were're not that sophisticated.

expat - you are scaring me with your picnic expertise!

I think I can do the M&S coolbag, but would be tempted to load it with M&S goodies at great expence.

I hadn't even thought about what food to take, lol!

for the kids, i usually take sausage roll bites, cut up veg and a dip, cheese and a pud like a one of those Alpen bars with half chocolate coating.

expatinscotland · 26/07/2008 22:08

or i make the girls a cheese toastie instead of sausage rolls.

for us, it's usually a sandwich, a salad, dips and crisps/veg.

if we're not driving, then some beer or wine.

one year, however, my folks were here for our anniversary, so we brought champers as no kids and no driving!
