Going out with 3DC's so need something practical (not talking basket complete with chmpagne glasses)

Is a Cath kidson cool bag really the answer? Is there anything easier to carry?
Goggling only tuned up picnic stuff for over 50's.

Do you honestly think anyone's going to be looking at your picnic basket?

Alambil · 26/07/2008 22:18

nice

LynetteScavo · 26/07/2008 22:20

No LewisFan it's odd! Looks like it's a shopping basket stolen from a surfing shop.

We have a wicker set which we use if the car is nearby as it is heavy. Their is plenty of room for food in it. We have a ruck sack that we use on days when we walk before eating.

robinpud · 26/07/2008 22:55

I use a straw basket thing from a market in France and cold bag.

LynetteScavo · 26/07/2008 23:04

I'm thinking straw basket is the way to go.

I have a bag from another parenting site in black, with a pink slogan- Junk food promotion to kids- not my bag! and a picture of a 1950s mum. I fill it with sausage rolls and fruit shoots!

Rachmumoftwo · 26/07/2008 23:06

The bag is true, the contents less so.

expatinscotland · 26/07/2008 23:08

I need something practical, that can be easily carried or dragged along whilst keeping an eye on the wee ones.

Straw basket too impractical, IMO.

Picnics aren't about style, they're about good food and company and enjoying nice weather.

i got a LUDICROUS thing in tk maxx about five years ago. it's a massive coolbox on wheels with a pull-along handle and - get this - the sides unfold, two little stools unhook, and it then becomes a sizeable (if low-slung) picnic table. it makes me pmsl using it, i feel like a total twat. but it is civilised having surfaces...

expatinscotland · 26/07/2008 23:18

Target!

I miss Target.

I'm going picnicing with Aitch. That sounds most excellent!

I have these and these for non-pregnant picnics.

And for truly decadent picnics, I bring along those wee bottles of POP champers.

ExterminAitch · 26/07/2008 23:22

see, drinking wine out of a wee tumbler is an essential part of the picanic experience for me. makes me feel french, oooh la la!

seb1 · 26/07/2008 23:32

I have this

ExterminAitch · 26/07/2008 23:41

LOOK!

it's just like this one. except mine cost £15. are you ROFLing yet? it's ridiculous, isn't it?

expatinscotland · 27/07/2008 00:26

I'm not laughing, I think that thing is fucking brilliant!

I would have a place to set my wine and I wouldn't have to heave my pregnant arse up from the ground.

ExterminAitch · 27/07/2008 00:34

it is pissing brilliant isn't it? although not, er, stylish...

expatinscotland · 27/07/2008 00:36

the style is in its brilliance.

how stylish is it to be seen all sweaty and frazzled, with coolbags and baskets and blanket hanging off you like a pack mule, v. striding along with one sleek objet clicking away behind you?

ExterminAitch · 27/07/2008 00:39

it's when you sit down, though, that you look like quite the twat. (although in jockoland, at least not the twat with the wet erse).

S1ur · 27/07/2008 00:41

It is a leeelte bit like a sketch show though. You roll up with a slightly naff wheely bag and a la mary poppins you produce a dining table with place settings and a lovingly prepared m&s picnic.

expatinscotland · 27/07/2008 00:42

Exactly! I have resorted to carrying two blankets to layer on top of each other and still the moisture seeps through, so I usually punt for a table if there is one available.

This could solve all my problems and be far more stylish than my ILs and their Scottish version of a tailgate party, which involves loading the boot with a real foldup table and chairs. A solution, but a faff and means you are chained to the car.

expatinscotland · 27/07/2008 00:45

You are just jealous, Slur.

S1ur · 27/07/2008 00:48

That is it of course expat. I have a camping folding table that is similar but woefully inadequate in comparison as it has no wheels. And is the size and weight of a dining table sawn in half.

lol
it's very Carry on Camping. I like it. YOu need a windbreak and hankies tied round your heads to go with it though OR go totally Hyacinth and use it for your Riparian entertainments
