Does anyone else go in and find themselves buying the same dress in every colour because it's a fraction of the price you would pay anywhere else and is 100% cotton?

I have the same dress in 5 colours! Surely I'm not the only one...?

I used to work as a designer supplying all the high street shops.

They ALL manufactured in places where Primark does. I would frequently see samples for loads of shops in the factories. I hated it, and this was one of the reasons I left the industry.

Unless it is made in UK, EC or US then it probably involves some sort of exploitation. The problem is not just with the retailers who use these factories. It is partly because the cost of producing something in say the UK is so expensive that the item won't sell on the shop floor as the price would be astronomical...and consumers won't pay for it.

However the main problem is with the government of these countries. As long as they fail to have no child labour laws, H&S requirements, the cost of producing items will saty low. When a country becomes too developed, retailers move somewhere else to where items can still be manufactured cheaply.

Not nice, but the truth..it is not a nice industry........

Ah, really Fizz? Great book on this and brilliantly written is 'No Logo' Naomi Klein. A lifechanging tome.

Yes, I've read that, some companies polished up thier acts as a result of this.

I visited a lot of factories overseas, Greece was the ony place that seemed to comply with decent working standards.
