What do you do with your eyeliner?

Do you put your eyeliner on top on bottom lids? I have heard that this can make your eyes look smaller. If not, which do you do - top or bottom? I think that black on both for me is a bit too harsh so I was going to try black onthe top lids with just a faint bit of grey on the bottom.

Also, when you put it on your bottom lids, do you do it under your eyelashes, or actually onto the bottom lid iykwim?

It all depends on the shape of your eyes.

I'm a Make up artist, and i definately wouldn't recommend putting eyeliner inside your lids, it's not very flattering at all.

It's best just above/underneath your lashes, usually darker on the outer eye, blended to very soft going towards your nose.

For a more subtle look, eyeshadow on a cotton bud is vey good for smokey eyes, and you can put more on the outer corners.

I am putting on dark greyish/black shaddow and black eyeliner on top lids. I was going to put some grey eyeliner on bottom lashes - what do you think? Eyeshadow on a cotton bud always seems to end up smearing around my eyes!

That sounds fine. If you want a more smokey effect, put eyeliner under your eye, then on the outer eye, smudge a little bit of the dark eyeshadow on top (only a bit) really blend it in with a cotton bud, or put a little bit of the black eyeliner at the corner and blend that in. It depends how dramatic you want your eye make up.

I only put my eyeliner on the top but I have very almond shaped eyes and it does not look good when I line underneath.

i wear black liquid eyeliner every day, and sometimes a bit of pencil under teh lower lid, about half way in, and then smudge it

would like to be able to do winged eyeliner, but i am always a bit hit and miss with it !

thanks hiccy - so you mean put the dark eyeshadow on over the eyeliner on the bottom lashes? Or by the outer eye do you mean the eye lid? I'm crap at this!!!

I'd put grey eyeshadow all over my lid, and black on the outer eye, blended in also going slightly over the eyeliner underneath.

It's harder writing this down than showing you! But that sounds like the look you're going for i think.

When I was in 20s - 30s I put it top and bottom. Now in 40s I put it on the bottom only for every day and limit heavier use to nights out only, I have also gone a bit lighter with it so blend it in more.

I used to use black but now use a rimmel dark grey/charcoal. I have tried more expensive ones but tbh dont find them any better.

I wear a dark brown liquid eyeliner from Rimmel, goes on quite thin so you can build it up according to how you want it.

I put it on quite thick above my top lashes and wing it slightly (not too Amy Winehouse!) and a thin line below my bottom lashes, about half way from the outside edge. I then put a smoky brown/grey shadow over the top which softens the look. Then black/brown mascara.

What if your eyes are quite close together and small. What then ?

I draw a line along my top lashes and smudge.

On rare nights out I draw inside my lower lashes for 'rock chick' look.

I have an Almay long lasting eyeliner which never ends! I kid you not, I've had it since I was about 12.

If your eyes are small and close together, emphahsise the outer corner and smudge out. Don't line inside the lids.

i am good in liquid, but only wear it on swimming days as it doesn't come off in the pool.

otherwise i have pencils and usually dark navy or purple on top lid and bit less purple or lighter blue on bottom, depending on outfit.

A good one for the wet eyeshadow trick is the Dior palette. It may be specially made for duty free shops, I'm not sure. It comes in a ghastly compact with handbaggy straps all over it, but excellent flattering colours.
