For me it's Monsoon, Next and Per Una (not a shop I know but I hate the range)

Tell me everyone why Next isn't good. I'm never sure if I like it or not in there but I don't know why. Tell me what it is cos I can't put my finger on it. Is is because the clothess all look 'Next-y'? A sort of uniform?

MaryAnnSingleton · 13/07/2008 21:08

yes, things from next do look all Next-y somehow...

topshop because I think the clothes are overrated shite.

TsarChasm · 13/07/2008 21:11

Hmm yes that could be it. Sort of dated and a bit stiff.

Jewelsandgems · 13/07/2008 21:11

I love topshop!

InLoveWithSweeneyTodd · 13/07/2008 21:11

Next, TopShop, Dorothy Perkins and River Island.

I do buy stuff occasionally from Next but they seem to just regurgitate the same tops etc every season. e.g. t-shirt type tops with lots of "raggedy" type embroidery; they just change the neckline or colour of the floral pattern or another part of it. Ditto re some of the childrens' clothes.

Also the sizes are really really odd. Sometimes I get a 12 and it is skintight, other times it fits in some places and not others. I am a 10 elsewhere.

Wallis kind of odd colours - lots of mustard and lime green a few months ago - not colours that suit a lot of us.

Jewelsandgems · 13/07/2008 21:16

do agree topshop not cheap, and does feature alot of man-made fabrics. But topshop sells fashion - not something to wear for years and for that it suits me. (plus great skinny jeans)

InLoveWithSweeneyTodd · 13/07/2008 21:17

boden too

beanieb · 13/07/2008 21:17

I've never unerstood the appeal of Next, the clothes are awful and the fabrics they use are horrid.

InLoveWithSweeneyTodd · 13/07/2008 21:20

and zara. I liked it 10 years ago. can't stand the clothes now.

Jewelsandgems · 13/07/2008 21:25

it annoys me when shops change from a good quality retailer, to cheap. Like I remember when I was young, our next had all these low tabes with folded sweaters on etc, and people felt proud to buy from there. Also the shops themselves were nicely fitted out - now it's just get as much in as you can, and as many hangers on the rail.

Same with river island - that used to have a good reputation.

Pannacotta · 13/07/2008 21:26

Next, Jane Norman, Karen Millen, Top Shop, Dotty Ps, Morgan, Zara, Boden, ie LOADS!!!!

SilentTerror · 13/07/2008 21:32

Pannacottta,where do you like??

Pannacotta · 13/07/2008 21:38

Am a fussy bint SilentTerror!
Also slightly odd shape - skinny arms/legs/hips but wide waist and broad shoulders so not easy to find things which fit me well.
I do find things I like in H&M, Principles, Monsoon, Phase Eight, Oasis, Coast - an odd mix I know!

Jewelsandgems · 13/07/2008 21:38

and I know lots of people love it - but I never see anything I like in Gap.

(though I do buy up most of Gap Kids/BabyGap for my DDs)

SilentTerror · 13/07/2008 21:41

Am a bit like that myself Pannacotta!
Also like Phase eight (but very grown up!),Kew,Noa Noa,White Stuff,Boden Fat Face(sometimes) Great Plains.
Never see anything in Gap,tbh.

InLoveWithSweeneyTodd · 13/07/2008 21:42

i leave gap off the hook because of their jeans, which are the best fit for me, and their shirts.

TsarChasm · 13/07/2008 21:43

Oh yes I agree about Gap. I see other people in nice things from Gap but whe I go in there they hide it all I think.

What about Cotton Traders? Old people's sailing shoes and fleeces from what I can make out. Howard and Hilda gear.

SilentTerror · 13/07/2008 21:46

Forgot Cotton Traders!
Also Hawkshead,very similar.

deeeja · 13/07/2008 21:52

I can't stand Next, Nw Look, Gap, Dottyps, Boden, River Island, Jane Norman, Topshop.
Love Oasis, Jigsaw, Kew, French Connection, Warehouse, Monsoon sometimes, M&S sometimes.

TsarChasm · 13/07/2008 21:53

I think probably Cotton Traders and the like are too dire even for a thread like this

janeite · 13/07/2008 22:16

H&M is another one I can't stand - it's like a jumble sale and the sizing makes no sense at all.

I do quite like Gap though.
