i would quite like to discuss fripperies such as handbags in the sales, but feel a bit awkward given the curren economic climate and the financial hardship of others -- can we discuss please?

sometimes i like mn for the serious stuff

but other times i want to chat about shoite - and this sometimes includes shoite about buying stuff - unnecessary stuff like handbags and shoes

i haven't, for a while (talked about it) for fear of upsetting someone that is struggling to make ends meet

whaddya think?

Fine IMHO.
Fripperies are a good distraction when times are hard.
What are you after?

Dropdeadfred · 10/07/2008 10:46

I think you can discuss what you like..I'm guessing peoplewho can't afford a new handbag are not going to click on a link about buying them...

Anyway...what about stating which one you would like to buy wthout actually revealing if you have purchased it if you're worried....?

Tutter · 10/07/2008 10:47

ooh you replied

i went and asked for it to be deleted

I'l shoulder the blame by standing proud and sayig I have ordered these for my wedding day!!

Tutter · 10/07/2008 10:49

oooooh [dazzled]

Nothing to be embarassed about Tutter, half of MN would not exist if it were only PC threads were allowed.
Bit of mindless virtual shopping is good for the soul me thinks...

Oliveoil · 10/07/2008 10:51

well HMC posted about her dh buying a £77K car and wasn't lynched so I think you are ok with handbags tbh...

I want a new bag but have about 30 in the cupboard so in the interests of saving money I am taking one out a week in rotation

tis not the same as a new one though [pout]

Dropdeadfred · 10/07/2008 10:54

Here's the dress

Oliveoil · 10/07/2008 10:55

what is an 'optional modesty piece'?

v nice dress

Winetimeisfinetime · 10/07/2008 10:55

My dh bought me a beautiful Francesco Biasia handbag a couple of days ago. He was canny with the cash though as he got it in the House of Fraser sale, used an online discount voucher to get free delivery and a tenner off and went through Quidco to get an extra 5 % off. It was originally £255 and he got it for £63 - so we were both pleased I got my bag and he bagged a bargain.

Dropdeadfred · 10/07/2008 11:01

Oliveoil.the modesty panel just goes in the back inside the laces in the corset back...you can either have flesh showing between the laces or not.

scorpio1 · 10/07/2008 11:03

i think its fine i love it!

I have a new dress here

it is quite short though, but then i am 5'10.

katw3kitts · 10/07/2008 11:03

House of Fraser are fab at sale time. What a bargain Winetime !

Mulberry bags had £150 off

It wasnt all of them unfortunately, and I ddnt treat myself, although a friend did.

Shoes were a bit disappointing though.... I usually buy all my shoes in the sale but none of them caught my eye this time. Oh well probably for the best .....

ninedragons · 10/07/2008 12:33

I have found a shop that does exquisite handmade shoes. I went to them yesterday, had my last made and ordered two pairs - one pair of evening shoes that I knocked off the Christian Louboutin web site in a pewter leather and one pair of rather sexy high-heeled peep-toes in chocolate brown crocodile. Can't wait to pick them up

Dropdeadfred · 10/07/2008 12:35

OOOh ninedragons that sounds amazing

claricebeansmum · 10/07/2008 12:37

Actually if you are after fripperies at the moment and have the cash it is the time for buying...

A friend and I were in a handbag shop in outlet village and each wanted a handbag - already discounted by 30%, then we asked if they would do a deal on both and we got a further 13% off....

Also managed to do a deal on my new specs - about 8% I think

And had to buy a trophy and I got the man to throw in the engraving for free

Yes the current climate is grim but if you have or want to spend money everywhere is doing deals - rather make a sale for less profit than no sale at all.

ninedragons · 10/07/2008 12:37

You'd hate me even more if I told you what they cost.

Got to be some upside to living in the great big shithole that is China!

FAQ · 10/07/2008 12:38

Well I can't afford a new handbag (actually I don't even own a handbag as I never use them ) - but I have clicked on the link, and I have to say I have no objections to you discussing them.

Gobbledigook · 10/07/2008 12:42

I know what you mean Tutter - it suddenly seems a bit kind of 'wrong' to link to some lush shoes you just bought that were quite expensive.

I started a thread about buying a new camcorder the other day and I did think 'ooh, maybe I shouldn't'.

Gobbledigook · 10/07/2008 12:43

I'm not saying it is wrong btw, just I know how you feel!

Ruby - you're first example is exactly what pees me off.

I don't mind (in the slightest) people "showing off" (don't mean that - just can't think of the word I mean) about buying such things, but it does irk me when they make comments about the value stuff I buy.

claricebeansmum · 10/07/2008 12:53

RR - reminds me of thread other day about the tips for running a household in the credit crunsh which started along the lines of "Take your asparagus stalks...."
