Is this nice? Suitable office wear?

I don't know any more! Casual office, jeans ok . I usually wear dark blue ones. None of my winter clothes fit and I didn't even realise I'd put on so much weight over the summer 😫will it be forgiving or is it just too old fashioned?

It’s very…. Sensible . But if it works for your office, and you like it, go for it.

Skybluecoat · Today 14:38

I’m in my sixties and it’s too old fashioned for me…

SilenceInside · Today 14:39

If it’s a casual office then that’s a casual top and will be suitable. It’s perfectly nice and inoffensive. It’s not fashionable but is that something you mind about?

It’s not the sort of top that I’d call “unforgiving” as it looks like a relaxed fit and a comfortable fabric.

TemporarilyCantDoMyself · Today 14:42

It's all right but I bet there's loads of things out there that would be better and that you would feel smart and uplifted in. What's the budget, size, any other requirements? Colour preference and fabric preference, cotton and avoid the dreaded polyester or not bothered? Etc.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · Today 14:43

It’s deadly dull, but unlikely to scare any small children or dogs. That particular shade of blue with a ditsy print always seems a bit depressing to me, sorry, but if you like it, then it should be fine for work.

AbsoluteHoot · Today 14:43

It’s very ‘old lady’, which is fine if that’s your vibe.

No. It isn’t ’old lady’. There’s no such thing as an old lady blouse. Please stop with the ageism.

LouisFuton · Today 14:45

Come on now op 😂 you can wear black trousers (not skinny) and a white fitted shirt at least instead

DontTellMama · Today 14:45

I like it (and I’m 47)

I don't think she meant to be rude and whilst I do agree that ageism is not nice it's a marker nonetheless

It’s lazy and insulting. Too often on here, ‘old lady’ means dull/ugly/drab etc etc. Not okay.

Stormyrose · Today 14:49

It’s a bit drab and dated but if you like it, go for it,

IronicBonds · Today 14:56

If I definitely liked it I probably wouldn't have asked! I like the colour but wouldn't usually go for that type of print.
I need something long (as I'm tall with my height in my body) and lots of things are just too short.
no polyester, else I'll stink.
I have dark blue jeans which fit, not looking to buy more trousers just now.
size depends on brand... 38-42 or M-XL 😫
Most of the rest of the office are at least 10 years younger and work in marketing and are far more fashionable than back office me.

It’s a shirt. In itself it’s very neutral, it’s not fashionable but it’s not out of fashion either.

I imagine my teenage DC would wear it with baggy low rise jeans, studded belt, and cropped, oversized cream v-neck jumper. She would also nick my y2k pink bag and would look street-style trendy.

My 80+ mum would wear it with her favourite straight jeans, tucked in and with a lilac mid-hip length jumper on top and it would also be a nice and perfectly age appropriate outfit for her.

If you are high with height in your body then consider balancing your proportions and instead of wearing something that further elongates your body and shortens your legs, wear something that gives your limbs more length.

I’m the opposite - short but with long legs for height. I look like a freaking lemur in tucked in tops.

I would be very very surprised if your teen DD would wear this shirt

Nicely cut white shirt with a gorgeous necklace

I don’t think she would, agreed. My mum wouldn’t wear it either to be honest.

What I mean is that rarely a single garment makes or breaks the outfit. Most things can be styled any way you want.

IronicBonds · Today 15:31

If you are high with height in your body then consider balancing your proportions and instead of wearing something that further elongates your body @CortieTat my main concern is having a top that meets my high waisted jeans when I pass something over the desk to the colleague!
e.g. This top is too short https://www.seasaltcornwall.com/kellow-three-quarter-sleeve-jersey-top?color=28923

Kellow 3/4 Sleeve Jersey Top

I’m 38, wouldn’t wear it myself as I feel like I did floral prints to death in my 20s so avoid them now. But it looks like a nice fitting shirt, I would think you looked smart and that you fitted in with the office vibe.

Tunics might work if you like a longer top. Like this kind of style:

HermioneWeasley · Today 16:37

Are you asking because you already own it and want to know if it’s too casual (it’s not if jeans are acceptable), or because you are thinking of buying it?

if it’s the former then go ahead and wear it, but if you’re thinking of buying it you can definitely do better.

LouisFuton · Today 16:48

Well @RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie I can understand something I don't like

It's perfectly inoffensive but a bit "meh". I would go for plain colour or a subtle stripe and dress it with jewellery instead.

It’s exactly what my 91 year old MIL and her friends would wear.
