What shoes for balloon trousers??

roshi42 · Today 02:52

I’ve bought these sequin balloon trousers from Tu - I unexpectedly really love them and would wear them to a Christmas do. But what shoes??

In general, what shoes are supposed to work with balloon style trousers - or barrel shape when worn just above the ankle as you often see them?

I have some balloon trousers in a silky fabric and I love them, but also have the same shoes dilemma. I was thinking I would probably wear something like this if it was for a night out: https://www.johnlewis.com/mint-velvet-strappy-kitten-heels/red-burgundy/p114221987?size=7&srsltid=AU7gw4XElK_lBaQDaSq-GxBKvyHszXFzwGpFqAYle3Hxn0_REolp1QkkR-s

Hi all,
We know that the balloon trouser is a controversial style topic (though a godsend for those of us with a body type best described as "Halls Soother on cocktail sticks") however we could probably do with fewer drive by posts from the naysayers on these Style and Beauty threads. Not everything has to be to everyones' taste. Do feel free to engage, of course, but the 'it's all yuk' discourse is best avoided, we feel.

the op asked for advice and has been given some. sounds like you only want "nice" things said. we are a forum with different views and this is a slippery slope if we are being policed as to our tone. no one has said anything remotely offensive.

With socks ...??!

Delatron · Today 14:22

I do think in general they are a summer trouser - most are silky and need a strappy shoe/sandal.

I would agree. This is a very mild & inoffensive thread - whereas there are a few horrors out there, which went unnoticed by MNHQ it seems.

No socks. I'm assuming a Christmas party will be inside and therefore warm? Although maybe a fine sock would look cool too.

If you live in the Baltic far north like me, I'd choose something like these https://share.google/m0GLURwpIwaEKxjPI I used to have a similar pair, and they're remarkably comfortable (for an event, not all day). And I'd wear a soft plain v-neck long or 3/4 sleeve top in a sort of cashmere-type material.

I was joking, as I just wouldn't wear strappy sandals on their own in winter - whether it was warm inside or not, as it's outside that would concern me!!

But I realised, this being S&B & it being voguish to wear socks with sandals etc right now, that I might be taken literally ... in which case, I'd wear thin glittery semi-transparent ones!

I like them but the jumper doesn’t work, you can’t do sequin top and bottom.

the top should be close fitting,to balance out the width if the trousers, and black or the same green if yoh can find it will work.

for shoes again id go black, and in suede, it’s softer than leather, and will match say a fitted black top. And make thr trousers the one stand out piece,

something like these would work, but you can find cheaper. Shoes should be more delicate due to rhe material

You’re complaining about tone policing and censorship over what shoes to wear with balloon trousers?
