Is this ok for MOTB

Daughter is having a registry office wedding, family only, followed by a meal in a local restaurant. Colour theme is navy and lilac. So I’m not going to go full on MOTB. What do you think to this dress? I would wear lilac heels and carry a lilac clutch.

I'd go for navy shoes & bag - you'll be able to wear them again (I know, I'm a boring but practical old fart) + a lilac dress.

I’d go for non matching.

@EleanorMc67

I have ordered the Jacquard dress from Monsoon that you suggested.

Oh good - I think it's worth trying at least, as photos can be misleading.

I said that I was NOT going full on.

If it was a church wedding or stately home wedding with a large guest list I would not wear this dress I have shared.

Sorry for misreading. I didn’t have my glasses on!

It’s a small register office wedding with only 14 guests, 5 of which are children. I don’t want to go overboard. We’re having a meal in a restaurant afterwards and I think the traditional MOTB outfits will just be too much on this occasion.

I may be wrong, but I don't think that @WrongWomen necessarily meant that you should go for a traditional MotB full-on jacket/dress/heels/bag/fascinator get-up?

She probably meant something perhaps a bit more unusual, from a higher-end brand or a lesser-known one, rather than somewhere like Monsoon which - although it may do some nice things - is a bit of a default for wedding guest attire, alongside Coast, Phase 8, Karen Millen, Hobbs etc ...?

(I'd never suggest that kind of stereotypical MotB outfit either. I don't like them & they seem to transform most women into Stepford wife lookalikes. They're also hideously overpriced, usually synthetic-heavy, bear no relation to current fashion &, IMO, those awful shops that sell top-to-toe outfits prey on women's insecurities & fleece them!!!)

You are absolutely right @EleanorMc67 i certainly didn't mean traditional MOB outfit! I wouldn't wear one of those in a million years.

If i had a budget of £150 / £200 for a dress for a small wedding such as @Katherineryan1986 outlines i would look at places like wolf & badger etc for something a bit more unique / special whilst still fitting the bill.

The monsoon dresses are not my style but perfectly suitable to wear to a wedding, however if it was my daughter's wedding I, personally, would want something more

I'm assuming, though, that the OP has a budget she doesn't want to exceed?

If I were MotB & had budget constraints (& wanted to buy new), then the third jacquard Monsoon dress would be best IMO.

Another one that fits with budget & colour scheme is this:

Next Kew dress

It's also summery-looking to my eye - but the OP doesn't seem bothered by that, & it can be worn with a coat or jacket. It's mostly eco viscose, & has both pinky-lilac & a strong lavender in the print (which is striking).

Sorry, I forgot to attach images to this post. It fits the navy & lilac theme - though now that I've seen you're happy to spend up to £300 on your dress, @Katherineryan1986, I'd probably look around a bit more.

Thats not to say that one of the dresses you've ordered won't be absolutely what you're after! However, as I think I mentioned before, I would definitely check what the other adult women guests in the wedding party will be wearing. The possibility of the same dress being worn is higher than usual because of the very specific - & quite unusual - colour scheme!!!

@Katherineryan1986 - what about this velvet DVF dress? Well-reduced at £265, her dresses are usually very (the dreaded word!) flattering, & it's shades of blues, cool pinks & purples.

I think the style you’ve chosen is bang on for a registry office. However, for early December have you thought about the coat? There’ll be photos inside and outside presumably? It’s really difficult to find a coat that works with a full skirted dress, I think. For that reason alone (and actually because it’s lunchtime), how about a mid dress with/without tall boots and then any length coat on top? Scarf tucked in around the neck if required? I wouldn’t want to spend £600-odd but look like I’m wearing my work coat on top of fancy new stuff.

It's absolutely gorgeous @Katherineryan1986 . Beautiful 😍

They probably won't be loitering outside for ages though? And are unlikely to be walking any great distance. I think that, for any photos outside, a velvet jacket or a short fake fur jacket would work fine?

That's very nice - I like the shape.

I find Wolf & Badger annoying to navigate though - both gems & rubbish, & an awful lot of both! And information on fabric etc is often completely lacking. It could be improved a lot IMO.

Oh I thought it looked familiar! Yes, it's lovely.
