Is this ok for MOTB

Daughter is having a registry office wedding, family only, followed by a meal in a local restaurant. Colour theme is navy and lilac. So I’m not going to go full on MOTB. What do you think to this dress? I would wear lilac heels and carry a lilac clutch.

The first one is nice @Katherineryan1986 The second one not so much. It has odd sleeves.

EleanorMc67 · Yesterday 20:57

I prefer that one! A bit more distinctive than the first one - & easy to wear lilac accessories with, as it's all cool tones of navy/blue/purple.

The sleeves are what I like about it! But then, I like diaphanous sleeves, & (unlike lots on MN it seems) I like a bit of puffiness in sleeves, especially when it's too little-girly or OTT.

I like the dress with the pale lilac shoes & bag posted above - they pop against the darker dress - but maybe I'm lacking imagination, hard to tell until you try them all on together.
Dusky gold would also work well.
Have a lovely day!

Love it 😍

Pearlstillsinging · Yesterday 22:52

Either dress would be fine for the occasion. When they are delivered you will be able to try them both on with the accessories you have chosen and see which you prefer, or if you need to choose different accessories.

Elfbeth · Yesterday 23:01

Love the dress. Personally I’d go navy for the shoes and lilac for the bag and maybe earrings

EleanorMc67 · Yesterday 23:19

This is the second dress with lilac accessories (I'm not suggesting these btw, just to show lilac with the dress). The colour combination works much better IMO.

Did you see this dress, OP? Also by Monsoon (since you like their dresses). I'm assuming the wedding is quite soon? This is jacquard, which I think is less summery-looking, & the tones are navy & plummy-purple - so again it would be easy to put lilac accessories alongside it.

Like a PP said, though, if you're not a lilac person (it's a hard colour to wear IMO), you could just go with navy accessories. Maybe a lilac glass cocktail ring? Even lilac nail polish?!!

@Katherineryan1986 - Anonymous Copenhagen has several shoe styles in the same colour that I posted above. They're on the pricier side, but they do make really lovely comfy shoes.

The bag is a Max Mara Pasticcino, so even pricier ... https://www.vestiairecollective.com/women-bags/handbags/max-mara-weekend/purple-cotton-pasticcino-max-mara-weekend-handbag-69566374.shtml

However, I also spotted these by Lotus, in suede - two styles of slingback, & a matching bag. Some on here will say that matching your bag & shoes is currently passé, so you might want to just do one or the other, & stick to navy for the bag or shoes. Or find another toning lilac in a different material like velvet. But tbh, it's a tricky enough colour to find, that I think that mixing & matching types of lilac would be difficult to get right! So I wouldn't blame you if you decided to just go for it, with matching bag & heels ...! It's a bit of a statement!!

Thanks, I did see this dress and although I like it, I think it’s a bit ‘heavy’ somehow. Unfortunately I am not as slim as the model! I’m not fat, but have typical ‘menopause’ fuller body, but good legs and arms.

I do think that dress you like is lovely and you'll be able to wear it again too.
I think this Coast dress fits the navy lavender theme too.

This one is absolutely lovely and i may well try it on - thank you

If it is a winter wedding, would you consider velvet? This is navy velvet with lilac embroidery (& gold as well, I think?) along the neckline. You could mix gold & lilac accessories.

Velvet dress

I’m sorry but I really don’t like this one. The velvet will be too heavy and hot and I hate the design around the neck. thanks for the suggestion though

Thanks for the shoe and bag suggestions.

I have to be careful with shoes as I have slight bunions and so usually buy from Solebliss whenever possible.

When is the wedding? I think the first dress you’ve posted is okay, but best for spring. I don’t like the second one.

If it’s this year, I like the ‘heavier’ Monsoon one that @EleanorMc67 posted.

Personally, I wouldn’t waste my money on lilac shoes, as I’d never wear them again. Instead, I’d probably just go with black or brown, depending on the outfit.

Maybe worth a try though, as you might like it in the flesh. I do think it's more appropriate if the wedding is in the winter months than the first one.

It was a bit of a wild card, as I thought you'd probably prefer something more conventional/fitted in shape from your first two dresses. It just happened to be navy & lilac so I thought I'd throw it in there!

That dress is beautiful, imho. My favourite of the 3 dresses.
