Beautiful bag I’ll never use - suggestions for where/how to sell?

Afternoon all hoping for some suggestions …

Probably over 10+ years ago I treated myself to a gorgeous leather bag from Joules. It’s truly beautiful and you can still smell the leather ☺️ I’ve looked after it on the handful of times I’ve used it but it is showing some signs of wear but overall is still in excellent condition. I reckon I paid on excess of £100 for it

I have decided to try and sell it as I don’t really wear it, I find it awkward to use due to handles and it takes up a surprising amount of cupboard space. Plus I just feel guilty every time I see it for the money I paid vs joy it brings me.

Any ideas of the safest way to sell? Vinted is like the wild west these days, ditto Facebook or similar. I have only ever used eBay once to purchase so don’t know about selling.

Thanks in advance ☺️

Just remember if you do end up buying leather cream to deduct the cost of that from any profit.

I wondered that. Seems an innocent topic

Hi @tellmewhenthespaceshiplandscoz i sell a lot on Vinted. It was a bit heartbreaking when you paid over £100 for an item and get offered £10. But you get over it. In my view it’s better to have the £10 (or donate the same amount to charity if giving it away) than it gather dust.

Look up sunk cost fallacy too, it’s a helpful mindset for selling!

It is a high street brand and therefore the amount that you will recoup is going to be a fraction of what you paid for it. Mulberry’s hold their value a Joules bag sadly will not.

It desperately needs some leather conditioner on it, Timpsons sell a leather revive which is super.

Pop it on Vinted for £25 and see if you get any interest and if not donate it to your favourite charity shop.

I would maybe try Facebook marketplace. You’ll then not have to deal with postage and packing and all that hassle. Or put it on both online selling platforms (I always use eBay) and just see what happens. I have quite a lot of luck selling various things. As long as it’s priced right. And although it’s hard seeing something go for a small amount of money when you spent a lot, I always think £10 or £20 in my pocket is better than nothing.

Thank you and for such nice words too ☺️

Yes I think you are right … it was a daft impulse buy when I had some spare £ to treat myself after going back to work after having DD and o was definitely thinking heart over head. Also was in that funny time post baby when you can end up in a bit of a style wasteland IYSWIM? Now I know exactly what I like I’d love that cash back to buy something I’ll love!!

Plan is to get some leather polish as many of the less, shall we say, blunt posters have suggested?!! 😂 I’ll list it on Vinted at a sensible £ and if I get no interest after a few weeks or daft offers I think I’ll take it to the Sue Ryder shop before Christmas.

Thanks again and also to all the lovely posters for their constructive suggestions x

Try vinted then charity shop it.

I sold a barely used leather bag last year and did the rounds. Vinted is fine if you price it right and you only post with tracking. The wild west part is the lowball offers. Just ignore them. Check eBay sold listings first. That tells you the real price in two minutes. For a Joules bag in excellent condition, I would try Vinted first with great photos in daylight. Keep eBay as backup. If anyone wants local pickup, meet in a public place. I never had a problem that way.

Why not donate it to a charity
I think Oxfam have some specialist shops for high end goods

If it’s like a doctors bag you could offer it to a school or nursery for their role play area. My dd had a role play vets when she was little with a similar sort of bag.
