Beautiful bag I’ll never use - suggestions for where/how to sell?

Afternoon all hoping for some suggestions …

Probably over 10+ years ago I treated myself to a gorgeous leather bag from Joules. It’s truly beautiful and you can still smell the leather ☺️ I’ve looked after it on the handful of times I’ve used it but it is showing some signs of wear but overall is still in excellent condition. I reckon I paid on excess of £100 for it

I have decided to try and sell it as I don’t really wear it, I find it awkward to use due to handles and it takes up a surprising amount of cupboard space. Plus I just feel guilty every time I see it for the money I paid vs joy it brings me.

Any ideas of the safest way to sell? Vinted is like the wild west these days, ditto Facebook or similar. I have only ever used eBay once to purchase so don’t know about selling.

Thanks in advance ☺️

On the search tab on Vinted there is a photo symbol. Just press that and add your picture. It search’s for the same or similar. It’s really handy

Thank you 🤩

You won't get anywhere near what you paid for it and you've hung onto it too long so its now not fashionable. Joules is high street and not covetable. I'd just give it to charity, the p&p will cost more than you'll get for it.

I don’t think I’ve said anything to indicate I’m “very scared” of being scammed? Just a concern is all.

Ok so I’ll maybe list it for £20 and see what happens. If I can’t get £15 I’ll admit defeat and give it to charity ☺️

Thanks folks

No on Vinted the buyer pays post. Packaging - bubble wrap and repurpose a box.

Can you not treat the leather with something to get rid of all the scratches? It looks scratched and dry. Maybe some leather oil will work on it? Don't take my word for it though - it's what my daughter uses on her leather saddle

I agree with @XelaM

Maybe google or You Tube first or see what the Joules Website says about the best way to improve the leather.. so you use the right product.

The one already on vinted looks pristine, I'm sure some kind of leather treatment would remove the scratches on yours.

I've just given two Radley handbags that cost a pretty penny as they were a little bit worn and just far too big and no shoulder straps. I didn't think they'd sell and they've been cluttering up the wardrobe for ages.

WitchesCatWhisker · 20/10/2026 14:48

Hi OP I’d try eBay if I were you; items seem to sell for more over there. If I were you I’d list it for £40 and see if you get any takers; you can always reduce the price.

I guess it’s quite niche as well as it open with the clasp with a frame at the top, a bit like a doctors bag.

God I think I’d rather give it away than accept a tenner! 😳

Give it to a good charity shop then - they will probably sell it for £10-15 - and think of the good karma you'll have earned yourself.

Wishimaywishimight · 20/10/2026 15:06

I'm in Ireland and sell occasionally on adverts.ie or donedeal.ie - do you have the equivalent in the UK?

chocolatestodgeandcustard · 20/10/2026 15:25

You will need an accurate description if you are selling on ebay and I would advise taking several photos showing both sides, the bottom (where bags are sometimes stained with water stains, grease or ink), the sides and one showing the inside of the bag, plus a close up of the clasp showing any scratches and the handles, as there is often wear on handles.

I would also polish it. I have a thing about tan bags and often look at them on ebay. I don't think you would get much interest pricing it at £40 given the scuffs on it. You would also need to give the height, length, width and the "drop" of the handles.

tellmewhenthespaceshiplandscoz · 20/10/2026 15:37

Thanks chocolates for those ideas, I’ll definitely make sure to try and have a go at the scuffs if I do sell. Pictures wise I always make sure I do as many as I can as lack of images is one of my bug bears as a buyer too

If you Google about you can buy a leather polish that might remove those scuffs but it's not in great condition to be honest.

tellmewhenthespaceshiplandscoz · 20/10/2026 15:57

So have got the message regards the scuffs and it’s not premium ☺️ all noted and I’ll act accordingly!

Get some leather polish and give it a good buffing. I bet it will come up well and look much more saleable!

Blondiney · 20/10/2026 16:08

I'd list it on eBay, things tend to sell for higher over there. Vinted is more trouble than it's worth.

Whatawonderfulworlditwouldbe · 20/10/2026 16:09

How big is it?! I quite like it!

PetulaGordeno · 20/10/2026 16:12

So a friend of mine in the charity sector told me, if you can afford to now and again, give good quality things to a charity you support.
She said they get do get sick of bring given rubbish they have to bin, but also the joy on someone’s face who finds something worthwhile is fantastic.
And yes I know not everyone who goes to a charity shop is living on the breadline.
But if you don’t need the money £15 doesn’t buy much these days if that’s what you get.
However, to someone else it’s a decent leather bag they can use for a job interview or just to have something way above what they can usually access.

NimbleTaupeTiger · 20/10/2026 16:15

Perhaps instead of selling it for a few pounds you can repurpose it around the house. Would it make a good first aid kit bag or sewing bag perhaps?

Better to use than sell for peanuts I would have thought.

A charity shop may accept it.

So I’ve worked out it’s actually 15 years old, has never been in the rain or near any water at all, it sits on a seat, the table or my lap when I take it out and about (a bar for example) and I always put it to bed in a dust bag. So I’m guessing it’s the nature of the leather coupled with it being a stiff structure so liable to occasionally catch on things.

Im actually extremely precious about taking care of my bags so it’s definitely been looked after. I never just shove them in a cupboard > shudders <
