Ankle boots that look great with dresses but are comfortable

I am really struggling to find some nice ankle boots that will also be comfortable. I used to have some great ones from Russell and Bromley. I would prefer not completely flat - just a one inch block heel.

i bought some of those slightly taller chunky Chelsea boots that everyone has been wearing but I think my ankles are too narrow for them and so my heel moves and they are really uncomfortable.

I'm looking for some too. I bought some gorgeous ones from Fitflop about 8 years ago and they are finally wearing out. I could walk miles in them every day. But I hate the styles Fitflop have now. Just want a simple Chelsea boot with a low heel that is comfortable for walking miles in the city.

I think I know which ones you're talking about. I had these and could have cried when I had to throw them out. I'm constantly looking for similar, hence me checking this post.

I might have posted a link already.
Women’s Chelsea Boots | Gabor – Gabor Shoes

I'd also look at Josef Seibel.WOMENS BOOTS – JOSEF SEIBEL

Both brands are good comfort-wise.

Clark's have nice boots too.

Not mad keen on that one but I think 'granny boots' are due a comeback.
(Granny boots because they remind me of the boots my grandmother wore as a child)

I’ve got Barbour Orla boots similar to these I live in them

Youngbutsuccessfulmum · 20/10/2026 22:31

Another vote for DMs. They go great with dresses and coloured or textured tights

Newmeagain · 20/10/2026 22:54

Thank you so much for all the suggestions!!

I am going to have a look at some of these. I do have a pair of blundstones which are part of my weekend winter wardrobe uniform but trying to find something more urban.

I have the Isabel Marant Duerto boots (the low ones, with the smallest heel) and find they are a good length under everything, plus extremely comfortable for my narrow feet and ankles. I have walked miles in them.

For something more simple, I also have and like the Joni Chelsea boot by Rag and Bone. Again, I've found their boots last and last and are comfortable.

I have these and they are super comfortable

I don't think they make them anymore but you can probably find them on Vinted or Ebay - Clarks Melody suede ankle boots. Super comfy and look great with a dress and black tights.

The only comfortable ankle boots I've had are from ECCO and they're great - can walk a lot in them.

ECCO shoes are the only things that help my plantar fascitis.

I second the DM Chelsea boot recommendation if you want a slightly chunky look. I wear with short dresses and tights and long dresses.
They look good with turned up jeans too.

I third. They are clumpy but gorgeous and you can get away with a thick sock with them too for cold feet. I get compliments on them all the time 😊

I have similar issues, boots seem to swamp my ankles, I tried some knee high ones even worse.. someone mentioned Chelsea Docs, I haven't seen any in person but can say Dune are slightly more fitted in the ankles. I tend to opt for laced boots still with thick socks, wish they would do more variety for smaller ankles. I've noticed, some boots seem to increase the width or general circumstance with each size, has anyone else noticed this or is it my imagination??

No one seems to have mentioned Lanx yet? I haven’t worn them myself but plenty of people appear to adore them. The Edisford looks the smartest of the Chelsea boots - but they do rather beautiful lace up ankle boots too.

I was in Skechers the other day, and these really caught my eye:

The ankle looked slim. I didn't have time to try them on, but I think I will go back and try them. I also liked the look of the Skechers boots that pp have linked to above.

Ignore any mumsnetters who have a thing against Skechers. Not all of their footwear is frumpy.

I'm not a fan of chunky boots as they make my feet look too big.

They look like yard boots

PollyPocket80 · 21/10/2026 12:07

Hush Puppies do really comfy ankle boots, they tend to come up a bit narrow too so would suit smaller feet.

NCembarassed · 21/10/2026 12:28

The best ones I ever had were flat, and from Softino. Wore them to death, and haven't replaced because they cost a lot (worth it though, in terms of wear as lasted years with almost daily wear).

Have you thought of Fly London? Often wedge ankle boots, and quite stylish.

Both can be seen here: Tinfish shoes

Or Rocket Dog, Moshulu, and Joe Brown's often have boots as you describe.
