Boden Pussy Bow dresss I really love this and I have a £25 voucher which would take the price down to £64 buy I gave nothing big upcoming that would justify the purchase. On the other hand having lost 5 stone recently and sold most of my wardrobe on Vinted I don't have a lot of smart options left as I've focused on replacing my everyday clothes. So would it be versatile enough to style for daytime use and if so how. I am 5 ft 5 size 12 and can't do heels.

Pussybow Jersey Maxi Dress-Deep Wisteria

We’ve used soft jersey and gentle gathers to create this dress so it drapes beautifully. It’s finished off with a ruched waistband and a pussybow you can style open or tied up. Plus, the maxi length means you can get out your favourite heels.

No, first instincts are that it reminds me of Little House on the Prairie, or the uniform of a religious cult.

Sorry OP, but you did ask.

I was thinking The Handmaid's Tale

I love the colour and the neckline but I think that the waist would be in the wrong place for you at 5ft 5.

I agree that many clothing brands are, these days, getting away with poorer quality in cut & fabric, & over-use of synthetics for mostly economical reasons.

However, I think that polyester at cheaper prices is much worse, as there's so bloody much of it & it's of the poorest quality possible! So it's much more likely to be considered disposable/wear more poorly/end up in landfill.

I do try to be environmentally conscious when buying clothing (firstly by mainly shopping secondhand). That's not always natural fibres though - eg eco-friendly viscose is a better choice for many reasons than ordinary, non-organic cotton. Polyester, when it's of a higher quality, is a very resilient material. I try to make that as much of a plus point as possible, by wearing the polyester clothing that I do own (all secondhand, some properly vintage) a lot. That includes quite a few 1970s polyester dresses & maxi skirts - when polyester came as Crimplene, Dacron & Terylene ...!!! There's also Diolen, which Bernat Klein used in the 70s - it is tougher than fibreglass! My pieces by him all look brand new, 50-60 years on ...

I don’t think I’ve yet found a polyester clothing item that I’d consider ‘premium’ or ‘quality’. I know polyester has its uses absolutely. I thrift polyester items I see in the charity shop if I like them. I have some coats made from polyester which have held up well. However I do think that polyester at its core is the same across all qualities. It retains moisture so you’ll sweat, it bobbles easily, it holds static. For a dress like this there’s absolutely no excuse to use polyester. It isn’t intended t be waterproof, it doesn’t need to hold a certain pleat pattern etc. It’s just pure greed from Boden. It will have cost them pennies to make this dress and the fact they’re charging as much as £90 (on sale, too!) is just truly shocking.

I think that if you like it and it looks good on you you should buy it and wear it

mumsnet is a bit unique in that the S&B board is mostly populated by people who are quite against adventurous dressing.

I do not normally think of Boden as adventurous but this dress is definitely unusual and would not suit everyone, therefore if it suits you it may well be a very cool look

The vast majority of posters in this board advocate for skinny jeans and to go out in jeans and a nice top, whereas that is definitely old hat outside this board so take everyone’s advice with a pinch of salt, including mine

@EleanorMc67
why is it necessary to only be able to "celebrate your figure" through wearing fitted clothing?
I’m a size 12 but when I veer to a 14 I wear looser clothing such as tops or dresses with gathers. When I’m nearer to a size 10, I do the opposite. OP has just lost 5 stone.
On this rare occasion you and I will have to differ.

There is nothing in the least ‘adventurous’, or ‘unusual’ about the dress in question. I’m a bit lost as to why anyone would think that. (But thankfully I feel no need whatsoever to list the labels in my wardrobe by way of proof of my adventurous spirit!)

@Genevieva- its not t shirt jersey, though.
