I'm in 40's yesterday I wore the below dress to work with thick black 100 denier tights and black boots. It's knee length as I'm 5 ft 3 and a bit.. a colleague who's a few years old then me said oh that's short but its knee length on me. I'm size 8 to 10 so it's rather loose and not tight and I'm not busty like the model.. quite flat chested. What do other ladies think I was a bit hurt.

Ignore her and move on. She's probably just jealous that you could pull it off and looked great.

If comments like these hurt you then maybe look into ways to build your confidence.

amber763 · 10/10/2026 10:15

The dress is lovely! Ignore her 100%

M103 · 10/10/2026 10:17

I think it looks perfectly fine. It's actually a very pretty dress. The comment was unprofessional irrespective of whether it was too short or not. Don't give your colleague any thought.

ParkLaneRevisited · 10/10/2026 10:17

It doesn't even look short on the model, I would have just asked her not to comment on my appearance.

FetchezLaVache · 10/10/2026 10:18

That is a gorgeous dress and I bet you looked great in it! Some people just have to piss on other people's chips.

Everglayd · 10/10/2026 10:19

It’s fine and I think you know that.

Raiderofthelostbattenburg · 10/10/2026 10:19

It’s a gorgeous dress and I definitely would wear it to work with tights and boots. Your colleague’s comment would bother me too, but try not to dwell on it. I bet you looked fantastic!

Thanks so much I probably took it to heart as I have a lot of health issues going on atm.

The dress is lovely and it sounds like you styled it beautifully.

Your colleague is mean and a bit nasty. Ignore. you are younger, better looking, have a better figure and probably a good partner.

Happydays777 · 10/10/2026 10:29

Thanks everyone think I will say next time something like "please don't start bitching in the office we are better than that. "

Happydays777 · 10/10/2026 10:32

Thanks so much everyone feeling a bit upset with all these health issues so aa bit delicate at moment Icould comment on her attire but would never say anything as she's a few years old than me and wears very tight skinny jeans and top tucked in and had a dig at me wearing make up too !

Lovely, pay no heed. Wear what you want and feel good in.

Don’t make it into a big deal just say yes it is short.

The correct answer to that is "thanks, I like it too". Don't lower yourself to her level, OP. You're better than that.

This sounds like a massive over-reaction and I can't see it doing anything except creating a problem when there doesn't need to be one.

Just say, "Yes, fancied a change from midi" - she wasn't necessarily being mean and calling her a bitch seems way over the top.

Thanks for your advice. I think I'm upset with everything going on healthwise so maybe am a bit sensitive atm. If she calls me out again that's a good thing to say. I normally let her comments wash over but just hurt a bit the other day.
Good point thanks.

Exactly. She’s a rude, jealous cow and best ignored. Bet you rocked the outfit.

Lovemelovemycat · 10/10/2026 13:28

Pure jealousy. Enjoy the dress x

Understandable, health issues can really have a knock on effect to everything. She sounds like a strange person for saying it was a bit short. Best to be polite and ignore her silly comments.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 10/10/2026 13:38

Hope the health issues get sorted for you. Enjoy your dress!

battairzeedurgzome · 10/10/2026 13:38

Is it available in blue? If so I'll have one.

HugoThatway · 10/10/2026 13:43

Keep a record of the comments, @Happydays777 , when they occurred and any witnesses.
You don't have to do anything with them but you'll have them should you need them.

I'm not sure why you felt the need to point out that your colleague was older than you. Is it relevant?

Cotswoldmama · 10/10/2026 14:03

It's a mean comment, it sounds like she wanted you to feel uncomfortable. I think I would have just smiled and said 'yes I like short dresses' or if she said 'too short' is have said 'too short for you not for me'

Older than me I said because she is oldest there thinks she is in charge because she keeps making point of saying you young lassess etc..
