Sagging jawline and neck

I don't want a neck lift. Too invasive and too scared.

I have an enlarged thyroid with U3 nodules, and also a past pariotidectomy 9 years ago so I have to be careful with treatments, ie, HIFU, RF microneedling. My options are limited but I hate my sagging chin and neck.

What can I try to improve the sagging areas?
Does at home red light device work? I would be happy if any improvements.

@LavendarPink I am not in healthcare 😁Just someone who has researched face and neck lifts as well as alternative therapies for facial aging but not done any of the alternative therapies so cannot really comment on at home red light therapy or microcurrent device.

With your medical history, I think it is better to consult the ENT surgeon, ideally the one who operated on you previously, rather than mn. However, I wonder how up-to-speed an ENT surgeon would be with these latest treatments.

Sorry I am not much help.

@blueshoes I don't think ENT surgeons know much about these beauty treaments.

Oh well, maybe I just have to accept it and hope for the best!

You’d be better off doing facial exercises regularly, loads on YouTube.

Can you recommend some?

Is Daneille Collins good? Any improvements will be good for me, even a tiny 10%.

Would never do threads, too many horror stories, plus it’s expensive and doesn’t last long

These are easy to do. I do them while watching TV, though I did catch my husband looking at me oddly when I didn’t realise he was looking! They won’t work miracles, but as with any other muscles , face muscles need maintenance too! I don’t look too bad for my 78 years. Others may disagree!

@blueshoes are you thinking of a neck/face lift? It's a major surgery, I don't think I am brave enough to go ahead with one.

Yup. A deep plane face and neck lift is very invasive and takes 6 months to a year to fully heal. Not for the faint hearted. It goes deep and tightens and re-positions the underlying facial and neck tissues. Definitely don't do it if you don't want to.

However, and I say this cautiously because I have not looked into it. If you are looking for a modest improvement, a potential option a mini-face lift. It is still invasive of course being surgery but less so than the deep plan/SMAS facelift. This is the old-fashioned sort of facelift that tightens just the skin. In other words, the surgery is quite superficial. It could give a pulled (windblown) look and has gone out of favour but may help with the loose skin on your neck. It is less costly and has a faster healing time and would not last as long (5 years?).

You would want to consult a surgeon who specialises in neck lifts and reconstructive facial surgery, rather than someone whose main practice is straightforward mini-facelifts. The surgeon will have to work around your altered anatomy, thyroid and scarring from previous surgery.

Just throwing this out there as an option. As with all elective cosmetic surgery, take the time to research and get mentally prepared.

LavendarPink · 05/10/2026 19:20

@blueshoes I think mini facelift is a safer option for me. All surgeries have complications and I do have doubts, especially with my medical history. If my sagging doesn't get worse I think I can sadly live with it. I hope there is a magic cream that can tighten up skin without invasive surgery!

Thanks for your input, they are very helpful.

Anyone using a red light hand held wand? Not the expensive ones but ones that are under £50?

What is the down time with a mini facelift?
