Alternative to M n S knickers please?

I am done with M n S knickers - what can I buy instead that won't break the bank please? I was a fan of the midi for years, but a) I think the quality has deteriorated, the top band just seems thin and cheap and b) I have developed a bit of a menopause belly this year and I think I need something a bit fuller with some tummy control, rather than me bulging over the top!! Help!!

I found some very comfortable cotton ones in Asda. 5 pairs for £6.50.

Agree that M&S have gone downhill. Holding onto the last remaining pairs from older sets! Bought new a month ago and they’ve shrunk, are thin and such poor quality. If they weren’t underwear, I’d have taken them back for a refund!

I bought 2 packs , hoping they were similar to some I’d bought previously. Took one pack back.

Wirapa from Amazon. I have the high waist massive ones. Best pants ever.

Thank you!

I ordered Wirapa ones this morning they came this afternoon!

I used to swear by British Boxers - fantastic in every way. However the last two packs I've bought have been dreadful. Really poor quality they've developed holes in the side seams after just a couple of wears/washes. It's really disappointing

I misread this as M&S version of a Snickers 🤦‍♀️😂 and was almost excited!! It’s been a long day!

They have those too!

nonsensicalmess · 19/09/2026 22:16

I’ve given up on M&S pants too after years of loyalty. Worse quality than likes of primark. I tried sloggi but didn’t like the fit (up my backside!), and then next, and I really like the next midi ones. I’m a size 10-12, and the M is perfect for me.

Plenty of recommendations on this recentish thread of mine that would be worth have a read through:

I’ve bought Stripe and Stare and British Boxers recently and they aren’t cheap but I’m not Impressed with the quality either so I’m not sure what the answer is .

Thank goodness this is the first comment!

I came on to say whatever you do don't believe the hype about Stripe&State. Awful quality and not worth the money at all.

I'm expecting to see lots of comments saying the opposite though!

Years ago Sloggi briefs got a lot of mentions are they any good?

They were, but the last ones I bought were very nylony.

hurtandconflicted · 19/09/2026 22:41

Recently bought some high cut ribbed ones from Primark which I love and similar from Costco

If you have someone in Ireland visiting you ask them to stock up on Dunnes Stores for you. Much cheaper than Mark's and very similar in quality in my experience

I came to say Dunnes too. I think they deliver online to GB now.

I bought a pack from M&S the same size as a similar pack I had bought recently. I wore one pair which were so tight they split. I returned the pack including the worn pair (washed) and they refunded me without a quibble.

Holdinguphalfthesky · 20/09/2026 07:40

HRTFT but have you tried Thunderpants? Super comfy and bulletproof, they last literal years.

Also, just the name!

Also Asda. I just want full coverage and comfortable for exercise these days.

I was going to say asda george..I have been very impressed and they wash well.

Oh I threw the worn ones away. The gusset was so narrow it was like a cheese wire. I’m voting Sainsbury’s.

MeetMeOnTheCorner · 20/09/2026 08:56

Sloggi. Not budget but the cotton maxi holds you in and lasts for ever!

mixingplaydoh · 20/09/2026 11:22

I’m also a fan of Sainsbury’s. It’s not particularly a budget thing - I just think they’re good. The odd pair seems to have failed quality control, but overall they’re decent.

Would you say Sainsburys are true to size? I'm passing this arvo I may pick some up!

I go one size up

marmiteloversunite · 20/09/2026 13:31

I like the Sainsbury’s ones with lace top. Comfy and true to size.

hopingtolose · 20/09/2026 13:34

Uniqlo knickers are fab…..not the cheapest but last ages.
also really love Boody knickers. I get the full brief ones…proper thick and soooo soft. Again not cheap but they feel like great quality, very comfy and secure iykwim.

BatchCookBabe · 20/09/2026 13:40

Glad it's not just me who thinks this about M & S. The last set of knickers I got from there quite recently - pack of 7 - was appalling, like bloody tissue paper. Knickers used to last a decade from M & S, (pre 2010s,) you'd be lucky to get them to last 6 months these days. Absolute shite. May as well get them from Primark!

Thing is, M & S clothes used to be made in the UK, and were made well, and made properly... Now they're made in some Bangladeshi sweat shop by people who are earning £5 a day, and the quality of the material is below average.

Gonna have a look through this thread afterwards to see what people are suggesting! (Sainsbury's is coming up trumps at the moment, and even a few shoutouts for Asda George!)

momager22 · 20/09/2026 15:10

Have you tried the M&S ‘full’ brief op?
quality varies depending on which fabric composition you go for but they definitely fit the bill, belly wise as very high waisted

speakingofart · 20/09/2026 16:12

I’ve migrated to next recently as like you I think m and s ones have gone downhill
