Help please ! Struggling to find acceptable shoes for DD to wear with a skirt to VI form!?

Hello…

Please help a completely unfashionable & unstylish mum who lives in trainers here… my daughter has just started sixth form and the dress code is “business wear”… we’re ok for suit/jackets etc. but where on earth can you buy nice shoes to wear with a skirt these days? She’s usually mooching around barefoot or in wellies or trainers and possibly the result is she has biggish and quite wide feet (7-7.5) so the current pointy styles look a bit huge . She’s also very self conscious of having “strong” calves so wants heels not flats (flats would be so much easier ).

Also she will be travelling by bus and train so they need to be fairly practical…and comfy!

Can anyone please help us find the shoe that fits magical combination of requirements?!

Vivaia is a very good brand a little pricey however they are long lasting, super comfortable & washable. I probably have about 4 pairs of their shoes & boots

Next do a big range of wide fit shoes

I’d try to persuade her against heels and towards something like brogues or DM shoes.

Have you tried Clarks Women's section? Someone recommended it when I started teaching and they actually had quite 'on trend' shoes which were padded inside, so very comfy, and they also do them in wide fit!

What on earth do you mean that shoes in a 7 or 7.5 look huge? I assume you have small feet? Personally I think anything less than a 7 looks like a child’s shoe.

The most popular shoes are ballet flats, I haven’t seen any of dd’s friends in heels.

I would also say that a lot of them abandon the daft short skirts fairly quickly.

My dd has a formal office job. She’s been wearing dresses and a blazer with a tiny heeled court shoe but she keeps the shoes at work and travels on crocs. In winter she’s been wearing wide trousers, blazers and a round neck top.

Agree wide leg trousers are the answer. Forget the heeled shoes.

Dr marten loafers are a good call as they are very fashionable at the moment.

DD always chose Doc Martens, as she has to walk a lot to and in school. The patent ones looked good whether she was wearing a skirt suit or trouser suit.

I tried to buy these for dd but they were literally the most uncomfortable shoes ever. They would have taken about 10 years to wear in.

Yes our local 6th form is the same. Says business wear with a smart blazer but I see girls wearing everything but smart business wear.

Reading the OP my first thought was 'you need to find out where female cabin crew get their shoes because that's what you're describing' and those look exactly like what I was thinking of.

Business wear policy varies; in sixth form is it full on corporate? Can they get away with smart trainers? Wide leg trousers and a tucked in shirt is a nice look, which is comfy but still fashionable and can wear with trainers n chunky loafers. New look do wide fit loafers

I agree. She's not Margaret Thatcher- she's a very young woman. Some of the suggestions are terrible.

What did she wear up to year 11? I teach in a school with a sixth form with a similar dress code. There is no real difference in the shoes that the girls wear in Y11 and Y12 - they generally have brogues or loafers with the occasional chunky Doc Martens type t-bar.

Business attire was my DD’s sixth form dress code - the girls interpreted this very broadly. DD wore the shoes she’d worn with high school uniform initially -black docs - then soon progressed to doc boots, tights, short skirt, chunky jumpers. Have a look what the Y13 girls wear.

The local schools here are very strict on what the sixth formers wear. Girls have to wear a blazer and everything must be very traditional office wear. Can you ask the school for details? They often have details online.
I haven't seen schoolgirls wearing heels.

Don't worry, I have size 3s and love it, cheap trainers from the kid's section!

I have size 4 feet and some of my shoes would definitely not look great on a child!

Clark’s Torhill are great - so comfy, loads of different colours and my 17 yr old stepdaughter told me mine were cool 😂 she may have been being sarcastic though lol

You just wear them in the house for a couple of days.

I like Gabor myself and Vivaie look good - but not please for a kid. Far too old lady.
