Do people still wear hats at weddings?

Do people still wear hats at weddings? I’m attending an in-law’s wedding soon and fancy wearing a hat, but don’t want to look silly. I’m 43. Have my eye on one of those ones with a headband.

Wear a hat or fascinator. Never lower yourself to other people’s standards. You could do better than the one in the pic though.

MOB and MOG usually wear a hat or hatinator in my circles. Plus a handful of guests.

Yes. I always wear a hat to a wedding, I’m 35.

I love that dress OP. Its the same colour I wore as MoB last year and a similar shape. My hat was a big pale grey with blue edging and I had a pale silver grey pashmina over my arm in case of cold wind and the same colour bag.

I think the hat is not great. Many younger people would not go near a fascinator either. Grandma territory! Headbands are far more fashionable. See attached. Obviously not the teal colour, but you get the idea. The blue one is perfect. Colour blocking is good. These are Hostie hats but Etsy will have loads.

It was all thick beaded Alice bands at the last wedding I was at.

I think thick velvet ones are great for winter but you can also get cinnamey ones for summer. Or wear a boater. Like this but have blue flowers.

I don’t bother. Hair up in a sparkly clip, good to go.

Dress is lovely. I went to a big church wedding recently and not many wore them. Virtually none but I did. Mine blended in with my hair and had a bit of a bird cage veil effect but added height. I will look and see

Depends on lots of things.

In my experience:

Generally, the more traditional, formal, ‘British’ the wedding is - the more hats.

Generally, older ladies like to wear hats and younger girls don’t wear them. Younger girls sometimes wear a lovely Alice band as a nod to headwear.

The beaded one is not the same colour as the dress and looks more winter to me. I’d maybe try and match colour but not have navy or a teal leaning colour.

I like these cobalt ones but depends on your hair and preferences. More modern than a fascinator or mini dish hat in my view.

I would always wear a fascinator to a wedding, but not a hat, but I think it depends on whether they suit you. I have a lot of thick hair so they tend to look quite good, but if you’ve got fine flyaway hair it may draw attention to it if you see what I mean.

I think if you ever want to wear a hat like that, a wedding is probably one of the few occasions you can get away with it, so why not?

I wouldn't wear blue with a blue dress. Bright red or natural/nude would look nice i think.

Yes people do wear hats.
I suppose the more casual the wedding is then less people wear hats.
There again, I’ve seen people turn up in polo shirts and jeans for weddings.

The last wedding I was at (about 4 weeks ago) the only people wearing hats/fascinators were the mother of the bride and mother of the groom. A fair few people had sparkly hair clips.

This was a fairly formal wedding in a university chapel.

Hats? Yes, sometimes. That hat? Absolutely not!!

I'll be motb in a few weeks time and not planning on a hat/fascinator, I tried a few but think i might at the most have some sort of clip. I've got bob length wavy hair. It's a big church wedding.
